How To Install Oil Pump, Ladder Frame, Pump Chain (Hyundai / Kia 2.4 GDI) Long Block Rebuild Ep. 1

- This is the first video in a four part series on how to complete an engine long block rebuild on a
Hyundai / Kia 2.4 short block. I'll demonstrate how to assemble the ladder frame, oil pump, oil pump chain, chain guides and the chain tensioner.
As a added note, you could replace the combination oil pump/balance shaft assembly with a simple oil pump out of a 2.0 Kia / Hyundai engine. The 2.0 engine pumps uses a stand alone pump that does not have integrated balance shafts. Will this increase vibration when used in a 2.4? Don't know but I don't think it would under 2000 rpms. Engines of 2.0 and below don't need balance shafts. I remember owners of the Toyota Camry 97' - 01' 5SFE 2.2 engine would remove the balance shaft claiming it doesn't doo much good except rob horsepower. You can try getting the pump, chain, chain guides, tensioner and crank sprocket out of a salvaged Kia Forte or Santa Fe 2.0. The 2.4 pump components won't work.

I have a 2016 sonata with the 2.4 and the oil pump is totally different. Intake can sprocket it different also . Gotta love these car companies
Video is good up to 2014 2.5 engines I believe.

Thanks so much, this is what I was looking for. Can u please tell me if its possible to replace the piston rod bearings while the engine is still in the car for this model ?
If the crankshaft rod journal bearings are smooth, then yes, the rod bearings can be replaced with the engine in the car. If the bearings have "spun", the bearing surface will have fused aluminum and/or copper from the worn bearings. Impossible to remove.

Thanks for the video. I have a question I’m doing exactly the same job in my 2016 Kia shortage 2.4 but I decided use the 7 bolts balance shaft do you have the torque specs and sequence?

My oil pump chain doesn't have colored links. What do I do?
If the color is gone, that's a good sign the chain is worn out. Suggest you get a new chain. They're not that expensive.
Are you reusing the ladder,oil pump,main bearing cap and head bolts?

My oil pump on my 2015 kia sorento doesn't have that window any other way to line up the oil pump
Is the timing chain cover off?
My oil pump doesn't have the wheel that lines up does it still need to be done a certain way i think its g4ke
If your oil pump comes out of the 2.0 and doesn't have balance shafts, there's no alignment needed.
@@hardlymovingpro it's 2.4 I think it has shafts but no wheel thing but it has timing marks
@hardlymovingpro timing chain is on right marks , valves are holding air but car won't start, getting low compression 105 70 70 110 psi oil pump marks are on but not sure if it has to rotate again to have the shaft in correct position, if so would that cause low compression
Really can't advise without seeing what's going on.
@hardlymovingpro it's a mystery, leak down test holds decent air around 20% loss on cold engine , timing marks line up with all orange dots , compression 90 70 110 90 , not much else.driving me nuts maybe cam phasers
