My brother was a paramedic and instructor who worked for KBR and spent a long time in Afghanistan. He came home and worked for BP as safety. We lost him in 2016. He was saving his dog from an attack dog. When he was running with his dog to save him he slipped on the blood. He he crushed his knee. He had surgery but he was already emotionally bankrupt. From all his years of service. He cashed out his life insurance and all he had. He had blood clotting. He didn't tell his doctors about the episodes he was having. The PTSD and other horrible stressors were too much for him. He knew he didn't have long. He got his son to bring him home, only stopping for gas. To make it home before he was gone. At the time none of us knew the entire truth. It was right at the beginning of November 2016. He said he wanted to be with the family for the holidays, knowing he wouldn't make it that long. On the 5th of November 2016, the blood clots took his life. His last words while standing in my parents kitchen was...It's happening. He hit the floor. He was gone, but my other brother worked to save his live while we waited on first responders. He knew he wasn't going to stay. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 2 weeks later, we found he had tried to prepare his child for his passing by cashing out all his life insurance policies and more. After coming back from working in Afghanistan he really wasn't here. He was still there. He worked with the Marines. He had a first responder and Military funeral with all honors. He was 48 years old. Since that time, his child who was 18 on the day of his dad's funeral, left the state to cope with the loss. We have lost my dad also and our family has just spread out. It's so painful for us but, it was so much more painful for him. On his FB page, the last thing my brother posted was a song by a Christian band he loved. All of you carry the trauma every moment. I know my brother did. He was a first responder from age 18 to the day he died at 48 years old. There's not a day that goes by that I forget him or all of you. When I hear sirens, I pray instantly for the victims and their heroes. God bless and keep you all every moment. My heart will stay broken but, but I know he was far more broken than any of us knew. All of you push it down and hide it, but please...ask for help. Please understand that your presence here is so precious. ❤️ Saving lives was what kept my brother going but in the end, he refused to save himself.

When all are sound asleep paramedics are awake helping those in need leaving their family to attend to people they don't know or never will see again. Appreciate them when you see them. Thank God for the brave men and women for their unselfish act of Valor. Always remember and appreciate the most important people in their life as their close family, as they carry the consequences long after the paramedics experience the trauma while on duty. The family is the most important factor here. Remember to be strong in the lord and in His mighty power. The task ahead is not as Great as the power behind you. Be strong and courageous God is with you all. Stay blessed. Quinton senior advance life support practitioner paramedic Cape town South Africa

I hope you are familiar with EDS and other invisible illnesses. I have EDS and Epilepsy, so many people in the healthcare system have no clue what EDS is. It’s a connective tissue’s syndrome.

I wrecked my motorcycle in 2020. A lady pulled out in front of me and I t-boned her and flew across the the hood. EMS was there in 6 minutes. Just luckily there was 2 off duty fire fighters in the bank across the street. I was flown life star due the trauma that was done. 4 broken ribs, punctured lung, hematoma on my liver and a concussion. I was already grey and sinanotic when they got to me.I stayed in the trauma unit for 13 days. They said if I had not been wearing my helmet that I wouldn't be alive because of the damage it done to my helmet. These men and women see so much that it will never leave them. When I hear a siren I always say "God be with them"! If you hear a siren, please pull over the side if at all possible because those few seconds may end up saving a life. It could be your family member needing those precious seconds. Thank them! I went back to thank them who saved me in my worst moment. ♥️

People who has never seen what happens in an ambulance where a polytraumatized patient is when their heart stops will never understand the utter, unfettered chaos of trying to pry a person back from God's grasp, even if just for a few more moments. The burning pain of your arms and torso when you do chest compressions. The shaking of the hand as you inject the medicine into the patient, to give them a fighting chance. The bated breath as you glance at the monitor hoping you see a pulse again.
Those that run not away from pain and danger will never understand what horrors those see that run the other way, towards suffering. A profession for life, in so many sense of the word.
None who does this for a living is alone. Millions on this world understand the struggles within you. Many who empathize with the feelings in you, who know the horrors you witnessed. It's okay to ask for help, to talk about what you get through. And if you, yes YOU who reads this comment personally know a first responder of any kind, or a soldier/veteran
Give them a call. Or even visit them personally. Ask them how they do. Let them know you care. Let them know they don't have to fight their demons alone. That they didn't take on hardships for no reason.
They work for the life of others. Spend just 5 minutes of your time for their life. 5 minutes of your time could be the difference between life and death for those who fight death for other people's lives...
PS: Soon, I hope to be one of those taking up the uniform and follow the Profession for Life :)
    2023.07.15: I got the certificate!
