St Michael’s have actually more top level rugby players in Leinster than Blackrock in the last number of years. James Ryan, Rónan Kelleher, Dan Leavy, Luke McGrath, Ross Byrne, Ryan Baird, Harry Byrne, Scott Penny, Ross Molony, Max Deegan, Jack Dunne, Nick McCarthy, Josh Murphy, Andrew Smith, Rory O’Loughlin. All of them are playing at the highest level for Ireland & Leinster currently. Blackrock have produced a lot of current Leinster, Munster & Ulster players I.e. Caelan Doris, Joey Carbery, Garry Ringrose, Andrew Conway, Ian Madigan, Jordi Murphy. Other players AJ McGinty & Dylan Fawsitt (USA starters). Gonzaga have produced a good few in recent years too. John Cooney & Matt Healy. But St Michael’s are the ones that are spitting out internationals left right and Centre.
Says something about the coach, I think, to hear him talk about the variety of players at their school, mentions girls, that some arrive at the school in 6th form, acknowledging a lad's club, etc. You don't hear him bragging about what 'he' does. Seems to be a good egg!
The reason millfield has dominated UK school rugby is because it bought its success through scholarships. Colston, Wellington blah, blah. Posh private schools buy their talent. End of.
absolutely right. Also the irritating and unfair conveyor belt of ex-international dads who seem to produce kids who also get on the pathway to the cost of kids with equal talent whose parents can't pull strings
How can you say they "buy their talent" when they give such generous scholarships a lot of talented kids there pay practically nothing...the school takes a financial loss on them.
When I say 'buy' I didn't mean it in a literal sense. I mean the likes of millfield can gain their talent by scholarships because of the fees that they receive. State schools simply haven't got that capability so they compete using the talent they have. Saying millfield is a 'rugby factory' is kind of true but they have to recruit or 'buy' in that talent in order to compete. If state schools had that option then millfield would just be another school with a rugby team.
Rugbypass is too obsessed about these schools like Wellington, Sedbergh and Millfield, like there are tons of other schools to make a video about who are as good as these schools. They hold them on too high a pedastel
In New Zealand our "rugby player factories" are our homes, our backyards, our primary schools and our many provincial rural/city/town clubs around the country which have all been around over 100 years. Babies get a Rugby Ball to play with at an early age🤣 I've heard someone quote "in Europe the first ball a child gets it goes to their feet⚽ in New Zealand a childs first ball goes to their hands🏉🏈"... Yes England is the Home of Rugby but New Zealand will always be the "Spiritual Home of Rugby"🔥🔥🔥
NZ has a much better system for identifying and developing talent from any background, I’m a big fan of how NZ integrates rugby as a part of life. Having an environment where kids that want to go out and play rugby from dawn til dusk in anyplace that they can will produce a lot more great players.
Boys sent away from home until they are of age, desperate to make Daddy acknowledge their existence by turning to sport. "Mama, I made the first team, do you think I might write Papa to tell him my news?" "Son, you're father and I are far too busy dodging tax to have any interest in your childish goings-on."
@canvas bed maybe not so much NZ anymore- many picked up at high school level then into sports academys /polytech systems so the super franchises and provinces can keep them local at the same time trying to poach from the other super franchises..Or ring Dial a P.I. ltd and pick up a new winger or prop fresh off da boat....
Grey, Paarl Gim, Millfield, Sedbergh, Hamilton Boys, Hastings, Blackrock...let's make it happen!
Kelston and St. Peter’s are ranked higher than Hamilton and Hastings in nz

When I was at the school in the 1960s-70s we had Gareth Edwards and JPR Williams and were undefeated for 4 years.
"They have produced 44 England players sing 1949". Proceeds to show a picture of a Welsh player.

@@joewebster174 Most British state schools don`t even play rugby anymore, they`re too soft and woke for it.
Really not one mention of Josh Gillespie, this video is getting a thumbs down
Just like the government, look outside the posh boys and you’ll find some gems
Should Do a story on Joeys in Sydney
Get wellington college in there tok
Or just offer scholarships to students from "lesser" schools.....
Not playing on a level playing field.

England`s best this year again in 2022.

Saffa college rugby is so elite. Nice shorts caps and snooty.
St Michael’s & Blackrock in Dublin would smash most of these other schools. Be it England, SA or NZ
