UCD Earth Institute coffee morning research talk on Paying Nature's Way: Structuring blended finance for wetland restoration by Shane McGuinness (UCD School of Geography), 26 September 2024.
With heightened ambition in the restoration of nature, and with limited resources available to complete this, alternative sources of funding are required to achieve our targets and beyond. This will require pragmatic engagement with a range of stakeholders, including those willing to invest. This requires clear demonstration of benefits from this work, whether this is related to nature, climate or people. The work of WaterLANDS and Peatland Finance Ireland towards securing reliable “blended finance” for restoration involves the quantification and verification of these natural capital benefits. In this presentation, Shane will give an update on these efforts, highlighting success, challenges and potential.
