In the video, you visited Winchester. You were wondering who the lady in the mural was… that is Hunter Girl. She was the runner up on American Idol and her hometown is Winchester, TN.
JOE GREAT SHOW. LADY PAINTED ON THE BUILDING SIDE IS DINAH SHORE. SHE WAS FROM TENNESSEE. FAMOUS FOR THE CHEVY SHOW IN THE 1950S. SHE SOLD MORE CHEVYS THAN ANYONE IN THE 50S.
I spent my childhood in and around Winchester in the 60’s and 70’s. Family is all still there and I get home as often as I can. Winchester has a beautiful town square. Great videos.
Loved this program. I didn't mind that you werent able to get into the assorted museum buildings. The lovely chance to see the trains up close, the Texaco station interior was just as grand. Thanks for the great shots in Cowan. Very good!! The remaining towns were just as wonderful. 😊
That train was literally our playground and my grandfather used to voulunteer at the museum since we lived right across the street so awesome you visited there
Winchester is my hometown, grew up there. Nice sleepy town, it has its problems - like any other town - but I like it better than many other places I've seen in this world.
Nice video. One small correction. Cowan is pronounced like the farm animal COW, and not Co. That museum is rather nice for what it is with a great model train setup to represent the area. There is another great museum on the Alabama side of the mountain in Stevenson, but best of all is the unclaimed baggage center, where you can buy just about anything at deep discount prices down the road in Scottsboro. I've hiked up the mountain to where the trains go into the tunnel on both sides.
Thank you Joe & Nic, loved your video of Rural Towns of Tennessee as I am from LaFollette, Tennessee in the north eastern part. The mural of the Pink Chevrolet and the lady posing is Dinah Shore as she had a television show in the fifties and Chevrolet was her sponsor. See the U. S. A. in your Chevrolet was the theme.
Hey family I'm from LaFollette Always love me some chili dogs from the pool hall The other place across the streets got some pretty good chili dogs too Used to hang out down at woodson's I lived up in the holler by the old steel bridge what they call goat's Head rock
Loved the old train and log cabin. The old Texaco was cool, too. I have taken the Jack Daniel's Distillery tour. My favorite part was the barrel room. I also thought the part where they fan the barrel lid and when you breathe in, you can 'taste' the whiskey. Cool tour! Nice trip. I'm not far away from there, just over the line in AL.
A wonderful video. These rural towns always have such a lovely, relaxed feel to them, a nice escape from a busy city life. I loved the horses !! Thank you both very much.😊💕
After all, it is the most distracting, relaxing thing to have an audience of this video accompanied by your narration. This places are very special and authentic. You accomplished it very cool.
Your tour of the Distillery was heartwarming: a long established, still bustling American institution still producing a globally appreciated resource. It was gratifying to be shown and reminded that we still make something of real worth and we export it across the world. One of the esteemed birth places of American whiskey and yet the product cannot be bought in that very place-only in America!
It used to be a dry town it's not technically dry anymore all the gas stations sell beer. I think you can buy whiskey at Jack Daniels but it's considered a souvenir type thing so they get away with it but it's cheaper just to buy up the road in Tullahoma.
I’ve been following your channel since the beginning and I want to say THANK YOU! For this amazing content and I’m so glad to see this channel doing great!
The mural in Winchester with the lady standing next to the car is that of Dinah Shore, I believe. Chevrolet was the sponsor of her 1950s TV show ("See the U.S.A. in Your Chevrolet"). The next mural of "Winchester S.A. Shore Department store" is a reference to the store that Dinah's father started. I don't believe that the store was in Winchester, though.
Speaking of Lynchburg, and where Jack Daniels is made, did you know Jack Daniels meets all the requirements to be called a bourbon. However, I believe the underlying reason that Tennessee won’t allow it to be called bourbon because bourbon originated out of Kentucky and specifically in an area referred to as Bourbon Kentucky, and because of a small rivalry, the state of Tennessee at one point said even though it has all the elements to be called, Bourbon, such as Tennessee bourbon, they insisted that it be referred to as Tennessee whiskey. Now we know that all bourbon is technically whiskey but, not all whiskey is bourbon, because of its Mashville. However, Jack Daniels meets the Mashville of a bourbon, but still calls itself a Tennessee whiskey. interesting to say the least…
It's not like what you described all the time. Come back in June July and August 100% humidity. The air so thick, it stays hazy. Oh the lyme ticks and mosquitoes aren't in short demand. The winters are Gray and cold. Spring is Tornado season.
Looks like Cowan TN. I've been there a few times, nice area and mountain scenes, Monteagle, Sewanee and its university, Lynchburg, Cascade Hollow and George Dickel, these towns are nice to see in the Spring and fall.
I was in Cowan a couple weeks ago, the Mexican restaurant you parked in front of is awesome! Tennessee has some great small towns and beautiful scenery.

Hey, can you sing that annoying oldie? Lynchburg - and a huge cemetery! I say, "Every day above ground is a blessing"! 🙏 Enjoy your Hiram Walker! Gotta run - see you somewhere along the line!
Many years ago when I was a young mother, I found a request form for some old Jack Daniels labels for whiskey bottles. They were free upon request and after all these years I still have them in a firebox. Thank you Jack Daniels!
This area is basically my back yard, as I live just across the state line in Alabama. It's my favorite weekend motorcycle riding area- lots of peaceful backroads to explore around Winchester to Lynchburg. Like others have stated, it would have been worth your while to travel the few miles up the mountain to Sewanee. That whole area is amazing.
That lil log cabin reminds me of Jack London's old cabin in Oakland, CA. At Jack London Square near the First & Last Chance saloon where he would go to drink. It was still there not too long ago. That place was a hoot. They used to tease people in the restroom, pretending they took a picture of you as you sat. We actually lived in his former house on Foothill Blvd. which was a historical landmark. The plaque was actually stolen and hopefully now it's replaced. That home was haunted. We saw and heard some weird stuff. Including the sound of dog walking around - or maybe it was a wolf. We would find really old marbles buried in the backyard. Anyway - I think you said you're heading to Oakland, soon. Hope you make a video.
The preserved gas station in Cowan featured on the thumbnail reminds me of Gas, a painting by the great American artist Edward Hopper. It made a pleasant change to see lively downtown areas in Winchester and Lynchburg.
The steam locomotive on display is Cherokee Brick Company 2-4-2 number 1 and hails from North Carolina and definitely NOT representative of the "pusher" locomotives used in that area but still makes for a great display. Great video, liked it much.

The fact that a lot of your videos show nobody walking around says it al! !! Hopefully, in the future, restoration projects could be done as some of those building could still be saved. America is a fascinating country, it has everything and I have always wanted to visit and tour but at 62 and living in Dublin, Ireland I doubt I will ever get there !! However, looking at your videos I feel I don't have to go anywhere as I am with you and Nic 😄 Thank again, Josh

Just came back from road trip in Kentucky and Tennessee, interesting that the Court Houses are the most impressive building in the down town. A lot of money spent on Court Houses.
The courthouse in my wife’s town of, Marshfield, MO, was built around the same time and is in this style, also, the one in downtown, KCMO, is in this style.
Yes we used to fry skinny pieces bologna and that’s the thickest piece of bologna I ever seen I bet that was good! Nicole’s hot dog looked good too! Man y’all eat good on that road how blessed you guys are!
Yep, pushers usually two at a time. You should visit the Famous Horse Shoe museum just outside of Altoona Penn. Helpers always comes as a pair for elevation.
Thank you. This video brought back a few memories. I'm from The Netherlands and used to work for several US companies, one of them based in Huntsville, AL. I visited our factory often and did also do the Jack Daniels tour. It was and still is very memorable!
My husband is 73 years old and on his first day of school in first grade he got sent to the office for singing the Davy Crockett song while going down the hallway after using the bathroom

I grew up right on the Tennessee, Kentucky border. Tennessee is just as much home to me as Kentucky is. People are very country down here and even after traveling the world, I still love it here. Grew up hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers and playing bluegrass music.
Best video yet! The best part were the trains in the beginning! I don't drink much but I will try the the Jack Daniel's the next time I'm in a bar. Thank you.

That first town is cow-an Not Cohen, no? Perhaps locals pronounce it like that. We see alot of that. 19:40 very interesting gravestone. It could be seen as partly done...or perhaps done but mudded over like much of what we have seen relative to mud flood/calcified(?) buildings that we see everywhere. Though i believe the partly finished thing is what was intended.. .I have seen stuff that was uncovered in such a way. Covered over with mud that hardened or petrified.
You should come to Jamestown! Such a wonderful small town with lots of cool businesses and awesome history. Pall mall is just fifteen minutes from here which is the home of WW2 hero Alvin C York
Tenessee looks perfect , l have never been to this state but l.used to want to visit where , tenessee 's woods are the biggest even from brasil 's woods . ❤❤ thanks for video
I'm watching this from Slovenia. We have plenty of vinyards and wine cellars around, but not much whiskey-making although there are local schnapps distillers (not the sweet liqueur but 60-80 proof spirits fermented from plums or pears). I wonder if that could be aged it might take on sweet whiskey aromas similar to bourbon or japanese Yamazaki. I haven't tasted JD in ages, cause I usually go with Jim Beam, but I might buy it now. Great video!
Enjoyed the video! You may want to reconsider that proposed trip through East St. Louis, Illinois. I worked with people that had worked at one of the rail yards in East St. Louis. All of them had some bad stories to tell about their experiences there. Be safe!
Thinking the girl in the Winchester mural is “Hunter Girl” a recent finalist in “America’s Got Talent” in 2023! Great video! BTW, Jack Daniel’s died from a foot injury / infection due to kicking his safe in anger!!!!!
Growing up all I could think about was getting out of my little town and moving to a large city now that im older I really appreciate our small little communities and all their charms.

Thanks!
Thanks, Richey!
I used that type of air pump to fill the tires on my Huffy Thunder Road back in the day!
You should come to Jamestown! Such a wonderful small town with lots of cool businesses and awesome history. Pall mall is just fifteen minutes from here which is the home of WW2 hero Alvin C York

Be safe!

Cowan, Tennessee was the home of Walter G. Higgins, the inventor of the modern Spatula.
My mother would have liked him. I can still see my mother making a cake 🍰, and scraping the bowl with her spatula.
Thanks for this Spoda, hopefully we can still call you that lol.
Thinking the girl in the Winchester mural is “Hunter Girl” a recent finalist in “America’s Got Talent” in 2023!
