    I switched to tall fescue after the harsh summer last year. The seeds from last fall is coming in so thick right now. We overseeded again in the spring and the lawn right now with the start of spring blooming looks amazing.

    Hi Ryan, just mow your tall fascue more often AND the Allett Reel Mower has a fixed grass rake behind the front Roller to standing up grasses prior to cutting. This feature doesn’t have a Swardman (sadly) 🤗🤗

    I like the look of taller cut grass but you are correct about the high traffic area getting laid over not looking very nice. I actually scalped and seed rye onto where the paths are and cut the paths pretty short. Kinda neat looking without pavers or anything bordering it

    The tall grass vs short grass debate is like NY Style Pizza vs Chicago Style Deep Dish. One is not necessarily better than the other. It's all about personal preference.

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 3 роки тому

      I don't know if it's just personal preference. If you're growing a TTTF, it does better when you keep it tall. Also, if you live in an area that can get very hot, with long periods of no rain, taller grass will do better. But as Ryan mentioned, you also have the issue of mold. I redid 1/3rd of my 1 acre plot last year with TTTF listening to Ryan and the results are amazing so far. For the first time ever, a neighbor told me he was envious of my lawn! I've still got a lot to learn. Let's see how it does throughout the year and if my taller grass theory works out during the hot summer months.

    @Ryan Knorr Lawn Care the blend of grass you seeded with also has fescue with lateral spreading technology. I used the southern version of that Super Turf (that doesn't have bluegrass) and it is amazingly lush. I almost wonder if you could mow it low, even. I mow mine high, though, because it helps the drought tolerance (which is a big issue down here).

    Was curious about your neighbor's lawn. Looks great. I did a similar reno last fall and have some mixed results. One side yard looks phenomenal while the other side and back lawns have been really patchy/slow to grow in this spring. Did nothing different between the areas. The sun does hit the good side yard significantly more so I'm guessing that is probably the biggest reason for the inconsistencies.

    I would imagine you have the potential for much better striping with a taller fescue. I mow at 4.5 - 5.0 inches and have some killer stripes using just a push mower with no attachment.

    I appreciate your comparison from your front and back yard. As someone who lives in Arizona, extremely hard soil I am still trying to figure my lawn out. I am extremely interested in going the short type in my front for looks, and longer in the back for my dogs. It is quite intimidating as I am from the midwest where the soil was so great, quite the opposite here.

    What can you tell us about Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR)? I’ve come across a few different companies producing these cultivars, with prices in-line with traditional ryegrass. I believe they are spreading via stolen, but outside of that, I don’t know much about it. Would this be a great substitute for people that love the characteristics of both ryegrass and KBG?

    These make me jealous! My lawn was installed a couple months before these ones and mine looks like trash in comparison. I have tons of weeds all over the place - what are you using as far as a spray in large areas? I've got about 20K sq. ft. of lawn, so spraying becomes a hassle. I do use Tenacity in some areas, but a backpack sprayer is a wee bit annoying for such a large area.
