I owned several Ampexs, they were Infamous for having a huge bump at 35 Hertz at 15 ips! This is why they sounded so monstrous with bass and drums! Unfortunately when you ran the machine at 30, that bump was now between 70 and 80 HZ. An old-school Tech showed me an EQ mod to pull out that bump, enabling the machine to be pretty flat all the way down to 40hz which was really good for an MM 1200!
