Backpacking trip to Utah virgin river rim trail where I used Tayson, owner of outdoor vitals' personal backpacking gear for an ultralight camping and backpacking trip. Hiking Utah. gear testing with outdoor vitals. nova pro jacket. ventus hoodie from outdoor vitals. trekking pole tent. OV
Huge props to my new friend Nerrisa for completing this entire 18 mile trek at 10,000 feet in a freaking WHEELCHAIR 🙌 She’s an absolute BEAST and a HUGE inspiration!! Find her on Instagram here 👉 instagram.com/nerissa_cannon
💪💪💪
Next time I think my feet and legs are sore think again… your new found friend was impressive beyond believe… but I guess that is wha5 the backing journey is all about…. and you brother towing her at times…very cool.
Yeah for sure, that is an awesome accomplishment!
How do you attach a camera to you shoulder strap??
@Dan Becker what is the name of the super warm blue down Jacket?
I can't access the links from Europe.. :(
When you think you can't handle hiking, watch the hiker in her wheelchair having a GREAT time... THAT is perspective! Thanks!
Truth!!
Okay, watching the hiker in her wheelchair was worth everything. Take another hit of that O2! 🤣 That mid-layer is something.
Great job Dan. I appreciate how you don't take yourself too seriously. The jokes they played on you were great, and you handled them well. Funny video.
Even though your videos are basically commercials for certain companies at times, I still enjoy watching. You’re a big help to new backpackers and always a lot of fun, never taking yourself too seriously. 👍
Looked like a great time. The lady in the chair is the most inspiring thing I've seen in a long time.
It’s like Christmas unpacking. Someone stated in an earlier video that that front zipper makes it so rain can get in. Sorry I was in a rainstorm recently and the inside of my pack was dry! Love the zipper, makes access to things in the bottom easy! Love my Ventus too. Daily wearing it on windy cold Lake Michigan walks.
Never in my life had I thought a person in a wheelchair could do what this incredible woman is doing!! Totally amazed and impressed
That nova pro jacket looks absolutely stunning. I’d be interested to see how their 1p trekking pole tent stacks up against gossamer gear’s the one. Can’t wait to see what Dan packs for Tayson!
That fleece is awesome….total 90s colors! I used to dress my 1st born daughter like that when she was a baby!
omg i love that womenn! my daughter has cerebral palsy and i always wonder when she's older how im going to get her out on trails. right now she's light enough i can carrier her but its amazing to see someone in a wheel chair out. makes me alot more confident shell be able to enjoy trails with us!
That is the most beautiful thing I have seen yet in UA-cam. See a wheelchair person hike. Thanks for sharing that. Still the man. Tell the others if they do adventures to include her again it would build more responses to show that there not excluded to adventures
Awesome video... that lady in the wheel chair is a legend!!! Let Nothing stop what you love to do!!!
Had to pause the video after seeing the lady in the wheelchair hiking.xx I had a wheelchair bound friend once who wouldn't swim. (Well, she had a steel rod in her back, so literally, she couldn't float... Maybe forgivable... ❤️ RIP, Deb 🌹 )
But no, I work with people in wheelchairs, and most are very afraid to do anything. ... So I LOVED seeing that lady with her friends/fam, trusting them and the ropes... ❤️❤️❤️
Alright, I've bought a decent amount from OV and having this collaboration video was something special. Thanks for this one!
The leopard print car accessories fit in so well with everything else.
This is my favorite Dan Becker video so far
This should be a whole series. This is a great way to learn what you don't know.
Everyone right now is amazing! This collaboration is perfect
outdoor vitals have such nice gear. their dragon wool base layer and hoody are my favorite!
Fun episode... those folks at Outdoor Vitals are so much fun. We can not wait to order two of those mid-layer jackets when they become available!
Do you have any info on that mjdlayer? (Assuming it's the fleecey purple looking one)
Do you have any info on that blue midlayer?
@@iyetisnipe I asked Outdoors Vitals and they told me it is going to pre-sale in Nov and ship in early early 20222.
@@RVEastCoast oh excellent! Thank you
@@RVEastCoast was this the jumper shown @ 4:50?
My ventus hoodie arrived today. It's awesome. Another OV homerun!
Awesome! I just ordered my first piece of Outdoor Vitals gear, the UL pillow. I guess the algorithm noticed it and recommended this video. I'm glad it did it was a great watch.
I have had their new pack since July. It has about 50 miles on it so far and I love it. My Kelty Coyote was over twice as heavy. Next birthday I'm asking for the new tent.
Totally in love with that mid layer!
props to the guys helping with the wheel chair. That's raw selflessness. I felt the same way about the wilderness paramedics I saw rolling up the Upper Yosemite Falls trail, RUNNING with a big-wheeled stretcher as we were coming down. We passed the lady who made the call (sprained ankle or something). Asked if they needed any help - they said folks were on their way - and they WERE, running! Takes special, hardcore folks.
Good video, very entertaining. I could not get onto the site to see price on backpack!
This is the best channel ever!!! You have really got me into backpacking and gear!!!
Thanks for all the insights!!!
Love this video… the little pics everywhere just made me laugh like crazy 😂😂😂
Impressed with the gear. Really like that puff jacket with less stitching. Enjoyed it Dan.
Loved this. He gave you as much crap as you gave him. Love the interactions and the fun. Kudos to all who accomplished this hike and an extra one to the beautiful lady in the wheel chair, you are all an inspiration
I got my UL Hoodie recently. It's definitely been too warm in Ohio too wear it yet, but I'm very excited. 😊
**My favorite video **
Loved seeing the family plot with CABIN (s) outhouse!!!
And the Strong gal, WHEELIN' IT!!.... just had yumm bowl lunch with my man,at his wk, watched half... be back....with more thoughts
What a solid video. Seeing the chill vibes from the owner adds value.
Wow, this video was awesome! I am so inspired by woman in the wheel chair. I also would love to hear more about how Tayson adjusted your pack. And finally the rest of the video was funny and enjoyable-- made me feel like I was hiking along. Thanks Dan, Gordon and OV. Keep it up!
Love this video. Love to get some insight into the people behind the brand. And the chemistry and friendships are clearly genuine. Keep up the great work! Would love more details on the location - it was stunning!
Whew! Hilarity PLUS on this episode .Always lots of FUN when you push out a new video. Always, some humor & frivolity in each vid and your association with the Outdoor Vitals Crew has been an added bonus for both parties I believe. You're the Johnny Carson of the backpacking community and I hope that you're around for a long time. All the best from Hawaii to You and the Vitals Crew ~ Aloha from Kauai's north shore.
LOVE Hawaii!!! Aloha!! 🤙
That awesome wheelchair should get some Onyx silent clutch hubs with infinite engagement. I wonder how hard it would be to convert their bicycle hubs for chair use?
I loved this video!! It´s so nice to have such good friends!!
Love your channel Dan. There’s always so much risk involved recommending gear. I admire and respect your opinions a lot Dan! Ty sir! 🤙🏼✌🏼
Great video Dan! I love my OV gear especially my Shadowlight 60 liter.
What a nice change of pace from “Standard” video format. Good fun 👍👍👍
I got one of their pillows, all I had to do was pay the shipping. So far the pillow has done it’s job.
Dude I'm in LOVE with that green and pink sleeping bag!
Great Video! I love my OV mummypod, I look forward to trying out other OV gear
That one awesome wheelchair the design with the handlebars for thrust is such a cool ide. I dont know if it comes with a gearing system, to makes it easier. But dam awesome!
I have this pack and I LOVE IT. It has a ton of useful pockets, the zipper makes entry into the pack super easy and it's just plain comfortable and light. I had a double mastectomy for breast cancer last year and this is the only pack that feels comfortable on my shoulders and chest. I can even carry a two-part fishing pole in the big pockets. My only gripe is that I wish the waist pockets - which are so useful - had more "slant", so that they were easier to zip and unzip. I did my first overnight hike this summer. It carried everything I needed and felt GOOD. As a daypack, with less gear, I take out the metal frame pieces and it is good to go. Love it!
I have this pack as well and totally love it 😀
How is the backpack called?
I just started watching UA-cam videos on hiking and love you and these guys. Gotta love their sense of humor, especially putting photos of you everywhere. 🤣🤣🤣
LOVE my Shadowlight pack! Debating on a Summit Down sleeping bag now.
This world needs to hear this amazing woman's story. I am sure there are so many people in wheelchair out there who'd also like to go camping but they can't because they either think they're incapable or don't know how.
Btw, that mid-layer is very stylish. I'd definetely buy it because, well, I am Austrian and we're suckers for these colours.
OCD ramped into overdrive when you said OV put together your pack. Total trust, well deserved. And you rocked that pink/purple mid layer!
So great to see a mobility impaired person out on the trails! Fantastic! Crazy gorgeous cabin. Outstanding!
I love outdoor vitals! Good video
I suddenly have an idea for an electric-assist wheelchair. Something that works with levers like Nerissa was using, just with a little extra oomph.
Wow, HUGE thumbs up for the awesome lady in the wheelchair.
My favorite was the optical attack of the colorful midlayer-----bear proof!
This video is making me salivate over all that RnD gear! mind equals blown!
Love me some Outdoor Vitals gear. and I LOVE my ventus... one of my favourite pieces of backpacking gear!
Great Video Dan and The Gord!
Keep Moving Forward!
When are you getting that mid layer and sleeping bag?
@@evanhammond7305 Mid-layer as in the ventus? Have it! Love it!
I've got their new quilts, used it the whole GDT!
@@BackcountryForward no the ones from the video. Lol
@@BackcountryForward they where in your color's
@@evanhammond7305 OooooHHHH Yeah! What you don't realize was that Tayson actually got that mid-layer and pink and yellow sleeping bag from ME! They wanted to someone with real fashion sense to outfit Dan! So I stepped up to the challenge and donated my favourite coloured gear.
100% respect to that athlete in the wheelchair. That's next level.
He should bring his bold design choices to the final products.I would love and buy them.
How funny! I bought that same can of air in Lone Pine thinking it might help on my 2nd time up whitney. It didn't but I kept it because I bought a freaking can of air! The funniest part is that it feels like you just bought an absolutely empty can....which you did. the reinvention of the pet rock.
The novapro is amazing. I had an old dependable llbean polartec/goretex/thinsulate that still looked great but wasn't warm anymore. Saw this and signed up. Totally different. So light and much warmer. Only fully closed the pit zips once so far. Love it.
I know it's been said a bunch here already, but your wheelchair hiking companion is an absolute warrior. Great video with some cool looking gear.
Absolutely my favorite video so far. Tol of the trekking channels by far. Thank you, Dan.
@14:20 So I backed the Ventus on Kickstarter and Dan isn’t lying. It is hands down the best mid layer I’ve ever used. For real, I will likely be grabbing this before I grab my Arc’teryx Atom LT. Don’t sleep on this jacket, it’s phenomenal.
That was too funny! Loved the extra pillows…and great sneak peak at new gear.
Dan Becker food/freezer bag stickers available @???
Outdoor Vitals sent me a free pillow. It was worth every penny.
Guess I'm trading my old school OV Loftek puffy for a new, high speed, Nova Pro. I think I will be 90% OV geared when I start the CDT next year. Great Vid! Really looking forward to seeing what you pack for Tayson.
That was cool. I would like to see/ hear more about the tent.
Just got my ventus hoodie a few days ago. I can wear this all day. Just enough warmth when you need it and vents well when you are active. My new favorite piece of clothing that will be going on every backpacking adventure from now on. Definitely getting that new puffy jacket when it comes out too.
You look super cold as that guy is talking about the jacket lol. Brrrrrr! Love the stitching on it!
I have the outdoor vitals loft Tek hybrid 15 degree top quilt and I sleep very warm with it. I pair it with a silk sleeping bag liner for extra warmth as well as my warm thermarest trail pro sleeping mat, I’ve slept in 30 degree weather with no issues.
My grandpa built a cabin on the south fork of the yuba river in Sierra Nevada. Grandma finally sold it in 2000 but sold it for a super low price to someone she knew. A shame we couldn’t keep it in the family but the family grew exponentially big and too much competition for time there
Ok Dan we need to see you tarp camp now. It’s honestly great! I’ve been doing it about 8 months now and I will never go back to a tent!
Dan looks like a fun trip. ✌️👊
Wow. Some cool new gear. Put this new Hoody puffy very cool, im interested.
Dan…..bar none your best video film to date. I am also a two pillow man using the out door vitals…happy trails. FroggyonthePCT
And how cool is it to hike with a guy who owns a gear company and try out new proto type gear…right now I am fabricating an internal carbon fiber tube removal frame for my HMG Windrider… salvaged some tent pole tubes from my zpack duplex…allows the pack when fully loaded to stand up like a suitcase. And best yet no increase in weight….Would have loved to talk about that on your hike. You are a lucky dude…. And it looked like it was fun….Stay well for the winter…
Legit please understand this is coming from a WHOLESOME PLACE IN MY HEART:
How did Narrisa make it over that log at the 4:00 mark (approximately)????? I have a friend who is recent handicapped due to an injury that was an avid outdoors person prior and is adamant on doing as much as they can themselves and I would love to give them the tools to be able to do so? I understand that yeah sometimes you can go around, but sometimes you can't. Did you and crew just lift her over or did she have her own way?
Again, please, no one take offense to these questions. I'm trying to help a good friend continue their passion, resources, websites, packing lists, equipment, anything to help even if I may have already seen it.
She was able to get out of the chair at many difficult crossings. The guys then lifted the chair over the obstacle and then got her over as well. She then strapped back into the chair and kept going.
I love all my Outdoor Vitals gear.
90s mid-layers are making a comeback.
I kept saying the comments about the wheelchair. But holyshit when you actually see it WOW 🤯🤯🤯
I’m looking forward to that jacket being released! Great video.
I think this is pretty brilliant marketing for Outdoor Vitals. It humanizes the brand, and shows that the guys designing the gear are using it out there in the real world with regular folks, not just sponsored thru-hike athletes who may have a different perspective on backpacking than your typical weekend warrior.
It would have been interesting to see you give some honest feedback when Tayson asked you during the car ride back. Maybe you did, but later edited out that footage.
Thanks! Yes we talked at length many times off camera. It’s tough to give critical feedback on most of the gear we used because it was prototype testing gear. I have made several suggestions on pieces of gear throughout the process. Plus I legitimately had no clue what was in the pack so it was mostly seeing/using the gear for the first time. When he asked me at the end if I liked it, I definitely did. But the video just felt like it needed to ‘end’ at that point so we made the editing decision to cut there since this wasn’t necessarily a gear review video.
I love the colour of the sleeping bag!
Freaking BRILLIANT! I LOVE this! Great job Becker!
Very cool. Man I wish all that gear was on their website to check out.
It will be soon!
Great video Dan and especially using the OV gear. Thanks
If it´s just cold and dry enough an open tent is not soo bad, at least it doesn´t trap moisture inside. In my army days I slept in an open tent @ -13 degree fahrenheit. It was cold but survivable and after 5 nights I had a nice little icicle growing from the tent/tarp towards my face.
That log cabin is sick
I miss my OV pillow. I have used it regularly for years and I managed to put a pinhole in it a couple weeks ago. My attempt at a patch was a big fail. It is the best air pillow I have used.
Wow that Cabin was amazing!
Can we get a link to the midlayer jumper? That thing is fire
Where can we get that neon mid layer?! 🤣
I also want it
2:60 . Crack'n and Smile'n. Putting in the Work . Soild Member of the Team. Lots of Respect CHAMP .👍
I think this video has crashed the OV website...lol. I carried the OV Loftek Adventure Jacket and Aerie quilt for a month on the AT in May through Virginia. They were great.
Lmao!! Poor Dan!.. As for their puffy very nice!! I have a mountain hardwear lamina z-flame 22 degree sleeping bag (Love it!) that has laminated seams (no stitching) similar to what you got going on with this blue puffy. The insulation in that sleeping bag is actually similar too (thermal Q). Synthetic that acts like down. Very moisture resistant and warm, lightweight. Outdoor vitals are definitely stepping up their game in the gear world! Love the new puffy and the new trekking pole tent or tarp both look very nice! I would use either. Stay safe! Hike on!
Outdoor vitals gotta love them. ✌️👊
Outdoor Vitals has one of the worst websites ive ever seen. Its honestly disrespectful.
Why
I wish you shared some footage of the tent and your experience throughout the night
Great vid! I own lots of OV products including the Ventus hoodie and backpack. Nice sneak peak on products to come!
I really don't like the baffle design on that jacket. I have a Mountain Hardware puffy with that same design. After washing it.. all the down shifted to the bottom of the jacket, now I have cold spots on my shoulders lol, at least there's still the hood. I even spent like an hour trying to re-distribute the down throughout the jacket, but that didn't really work. Only getting down jackets (and sleeping bags for that matter) with full length baffles. That way if the down does shift, it will at least stay in its own baffle.
