      This was a good idea.. please also do similar for Steam locos? What do you recommend for the early Era’s, E.g. Lion, Tiger and Stephensons Rocket?

    Thanks for doing this demonstration, it helps me figure out which profile I should use on my Caledonian single to make people do a double take

    For those saying it sounds tinny, what phone are you using to watch this? I checked on several sound systems and the only one that makes this sound tinny is a phone.

    I’ve had mixed results so far with these decoders. Very pleased with the 21pin version I fitted in my Hornby Dublo Flying Scotsman. I bought a speaker upgrade though as I agree with others that the sound was tinny with the supplied speaker. The 8pin version I bought unfortunately was faulty. I could download all the loco profiles via the app but the sound files would not work even although the app showed the files had been downloaded. I’m going to give it a wee while before I buy another. Having said that Hornby should be praised for trying to make sound installations more affordable. A step up from TTS but perhaps not quite up to the quality sound provided by specialist suppliers.

    Hi Jenni, I have two questions if you don’t mind.
    1. Do the speaker enclosures that come with the HM7000 make a big difference to the sound quality output?
    2. On your class 56, were you able to fit in the largest speaker enclosure (40x20mm)?
    Many thanks !

    since release there have only been two extra sound profiles released class B12 & class 50. I now have 5 decoders but rapidly loosing interest due to lack of new sound profiles

      Any DCC system is fine to use them either in Bluetooth mode or DCC mode.

    I'm just curious, I assume that microphone recording the sound coming off the speakers inherently makes them 'sound' lower quality when in person these speakers actually have a solid, crisp sound right?

    • @JenniferEKirk
      @JenniferEKirk  Рік тому +2

      Sadly yes, the microphone is causing the drop in quality. We are looking into ways to use the much higher quality microphones used on The Monday Club for recording locomotive sounds for future videos.

    HM7000 Bluetooth infrastructure, this concept is good. I have gotten Class 91 (HM7000 21-pins) and Class 33 (HM7000 8-pins) but there is no sound profile for these two models. I wish Hornby can release more sound profiles very soon.

    I'm new to dcc have dc for a while have deltic with the 7000 already fitted not sure on quality compared to others but seems very good I was thinking of adding some acoustic material inside to get rid of possibly the hard to describe tin sound and see give it a little more bass if you know what I'm getting at see what happens 😂😂😂

    I do like these decoders so far got 7 fitted giving a new life to older locos had one failure but that was swapped with a replacement,had one the other day kept saying motor current was to high sound would work but no movement upon closer inspection one of the rods was bent on a merchant navy a quick fix and all was fine so I do like that the app tells you there’s a fault.

    I have just bought a TT3001M BR Class 08 0-6-0 Shunter from Hornby which I am very pleased with. Understand that I need to buy some kind of decoder which is fine. But does this require switching to DCC - ? Which I want to avoid like the Plague I have an Android cellphone and my understanding of basic physics would embarras my Grandson. !

  • @ausfoodgarden
    @ausfoodgarden Рік тому +2

    Hmm, not sure if it's just your audio or the included speaker that comes with the HM7000, but there's a total lack of bass in these sounds.
    I've got one of these chips in a Princess loco using iPhone speaker and it sounds great. I hope the diesel sounds are as good.

    • @hamshackleton
      @hamshackleton Рік тому +1

      Likewise! I'm using BIG hifi speakers and amp, and I could hear the wheel-rumble on the 08, but no bass from the decoders. The idling diesel sounds were more like someone dropping ball-bearings into a tin. The class 50 was more like someone slapping a wet cloth with a stick! I don't know if it was the way you were recording the sounds, or if it was that 'fish-phone' mike that I've commented on previously - that makes it sound like you are recording underwater!

    Interesting video, and well needed, this way yiu can hear before you buy, thank you.
    The class 73 sound file..........sorry bit I worked on class73 in the early 80s and the only thing right on that sound are the horns and the compressor. The diesel engine is nothing like a 73 engine, it was the same one as fitted to SR DEMUs, 600 hp, and had a deep raspy rough sound, the file hornby have used is far too high pitch and nothing like it, electric mode is just as bad, no high pitch whine can be heard or sound of the blowers, so for me that's a no-no, and to be honest not even the high spec DCC sound chips can replicate the true source or sound and there's no excuse for that with many in preservation.
    Class 56, 66, HST, 08 all sound good, but many sounds lost due to speaker capabilities, but you did a good job there Jenny, well done.
    Manufacturers of sound files, you've really got to up your game and stop uploading totally wrong sounds for locos, at the prices you charge, it simply isn't good enough, hence why I ditched all my DCC in a heart beat.

  • @S92driver
    @S92driver Рік тому

    The best way to test the sound quality would be to take a latest Zimo and/or ESU equipped model of the same class or type and compare that sound with the Hornby product.
    What I've heard here is not at all good, as it lacks any depth.
    No matter what benefits the concept brings, if it doesn't sound good then what's the point?

  • @theeventhorizon-valebridge9512

    Overall it seems that the HM7000 TXS (that's Aitch NOT Haitch for goodness sake!...Simply because the word 'Haitch' does not exist people!) is a great concept but once again it appears to have been rushed to market before it has been fully developed, tested, manufactured with reliable in hardware, software availability in Android and on all the range of locos. That seems a very strange thing to do if it's to revolutionise the DCC sound chip market! Like many others I will wait at least a years, probably much longer even, before considering to buy this product, to allow time for the initial release problems and issues to be solved.
