- Eight men found guilty of various crimes committed at the Glebelands hostel in Umlazi, Durban are back in the dock. After a two-year trial, the suspects are being sentenced. #eNCA Courtesy #DStv403

You are so right, traditionally the elders and the community would have made such examples out of these people no one would ever even dream of doing such an evil horrendous act. Besides at that time the people were much more righteous anyhow and wickedness like this didnot even enter their conscience minds.

Five years suspended that mean he will for 2and half years the qualify for parole
These are the kind of sentences that makes the public loose confidence in our judiciary and even accuse it of being captured. I know that every case is treated on its own merit but this lenient sentences doesn't inspire confidence of the public. Bheki Cele was right that police work day and night to bring the perpetrators to book and then they get lenient sentences or even at worse they get bail and police have to work extra hard again to find the perpetrators if they disappear.
3 life sentences for each is a joke?and plus more years you think that is still weak?
I'm not talking about the guy who got 3 life sentences as he's not the only person who was being sentenced in this case
@@matimbabaloyi2585 they were concurrent bruv. Mans effectively only has one life sentence. What he should have said was that they consecutive, then we could say that wasn't light work.
Those two had good lawyers and also they did not participate in the killings.
But I see that these pple are sentenced to life imprisonment I mean those who committed the murders, what more can the Judge do because there is no death sentence in South Africa?
Others got 10 years because they only conspired to murder, and that's what the law says. Remember the Judge my strictly apply the law not his own way.

Please note that in prison day & night counts as two days so you basically cut those sentencing years in half.

Our law is too weak and need a serious overhauling as it is too symphathic to the law breakers.I don't understand this "concurrent" issue because each and each life should be respected and shouldn't be downgraded to one.

People living in Glebelands have the hardest life. A colleague of mine once didn't come to work because there was a shooting in the passages and everyone was afraid to be the first to come out their rooms in case they become labeled as possible witnesses whom are even killed outside the uMlazi Magistrate Court
