And it's always the cheapest thing you can buy at a fair or theme park but it always butchers your tongue. The best part is how it always changes the colour of your tongue. That's it. 🌈
Simon and Martina LOL exactly! And you're like "it's so hot and i need something cold and it's ok it won't be that bad" and then your tongue feels like, as you said, you've been chewing/gnawing on crushed light bulbs. Cause that ish does NOT dissolve. And us sensitive teeth people are in immense pain. We understand each other.
The soft type in this video is REALLY common down in the bayou around SE Texas and Louisiana. In fact this soft shave ice is basically the only type you see. Our machines look a little different than the one he uses, but they are also really old big cast iron things and we end up with a snowy powder that's really traditional to put a scoop of ice cream in the middle of!
Mina I have many friends studying nursing here in Australia and they all enjoy it very much. It's a lot of hard work but very rewarding at the same time. Good luck at your first class ☺️☺️
I'm from india and these are popular here too! They're called golas and are really common during the summertime and its dirt cheap. You can get like 6 of them for a dollar. :D
For this week's Food Adventure we're going to show you what shaved ice is all about, and give you a few tips to look out for when you order it yourself :D
That safety outer cup is great. You can actually enjoy the food instead of eating it quickly because it's all melting and dripping as they let you fend for yourself. lol
I have literally never been so early to one of your videos in my life! You two are amazing and I hope you both have a fantastic day! Could've said something sassy but I didn't feel like it this morning. Lol of course it wouldn't be a rude sassy, I don't like that kind of sass. Now I'm rambling about sass. I loved your hairstyle Martina your hair is always on point! And Simon you dress like how I aspire to: fun, cool, and casual. Hope you both have a wonderful day!
I had intestinal surgery and was not allowed anything by mouth for days. Finally they gave me a tablespoon of chopped ice with no flavorings. That was the best snowcone I have ever had.
Shimokita is litteraly my fav area in the city. there is this AMAZING matcha kakigori when you take the east exit on one of the streets real close there is a tea shop that does kakigori out of their own matcha YOU NEED TO GO, they put azuki, mochi and all the good stuffs on top of it.
I was sat wondering why you guys looked so different in the old shot! The baby faces are real! Simons hair seems to have gone on an adventure to his chin! Great video as always guys!
When you guys are converting the yen to dollars are you guys converting it to Canadian dollars or American? (I know they are so similar but I'm curious) hello from the Hudson valley!
Jessi Dear They're not similar. US Dollar is worth more. Our stupid Canadian money... lol When you think you found something cheap, and then you realize it's in American dollars. 🙄
In germany we actually have Shaved ice as well... but we love to "shave" it ourself, we call it "Kratz-Eis" scratch(ed/ing)-ice . Since we are scratching it with the spoon our self.
The soft focus in this video and the high quality images... *bites fist * That looks like a really hip area of Tokyo! And also this kind of shaved ice looks really great for us lactose-intolerant people. Thanks for sharing!
In Louisiana we've got snowballs. Some places down here are very thinly shaved. New Orleans snow is great. Whenever I travel to Los Angeles to visit my friends we always get this thing called fluff ice. It pretty much the consistency of cotton candy and ice cream. It's great. They out fresh fruit in it. Plus with boba tea. Just the best! You guys always make me so happy. Keep it up!
I have had the Kakigori song stuck in my head for the past 2 weeks without context and whenever my mind is still or my house is quiet, that’s what pops into my head and I just have to laugh! Thank you for bringing these random pockets of crazy joy into the world for all us Nasties 💕
Oh! You switched from Canon to Sony mirrorless! Aside from that, this video made me go into severe aftershocks of want for a bucket of shaved ice. A BUCKET I SAY.
So it will be my first time in Tokyo, going in two weeks. I don't know a word of Japanese but you guys have inspired me to travel and get out of my comfort zone, I will definitely check it out, thanks guys!
Where i live, we have something called Raspados. There's many types of raspados but my personal favorite is where they have a slice of cake bread (?) with flavored condensed milk (my favorite is with Tamarindo) it is so good!
I KNOW!!! We read it for like 5 minute going...PPUUU RAA NN CEE? Wait... France? Wait. No. Wait. What!? Only theory is that they'll make three colours like the French flag....
I just started school today! At Cal State Fullerton waiting for my next class. Your videos really help me when I stress out so this is a nice (unintentional) gift for me... thank you!
Here in San Antonio and South Texas we have raspas, aka shaved ice, and paletas which are frozen fresh fruit pops. We like to put spicy salt on our fruit pops and color them with flowers like hibiscus. They taste amazing. It helps us survive the summer heat!
I hate snow cones and ever since I saw your old video from Korea I have been trying to find a way to make or get patbingsu but I'm afraid it's always going to be that, crunchy glass kind 😹😹 this kind looks even better Still my mission to find all of them (seems hard here in Florida)
The Korean version is absolutely NOT the crunchy glass kind! It's super duper yummy! If you find a Korean, Japanese, or Taiwanese shop that sells it just make sure they don't have those obvious dye filled pumps in eye shot or else you'll be getting the cheap crunchy glass kind! Haha!
GIRL, go to jeremiah's ice for smooth af italian ice. Or go to a korean or japanese cafe/restaurant and get some shaved ice from there. There's even raspados, which is a mexican shaved ice and it's soo good. I'm from FL too even though I guess not everywhere in FL is the same!
... Then don't buy it. The ice didn't magically appear out of nowhere. The ice didn't shave itself. Ice shaving machines don't drop from the sky. The fruit didn't juice itself. 🤷🏻♀️
Perhaps the most famous shaved ice in America comes from Bob's Taco Station in Rosenberg, Texas. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives - twice. It's part of my dream #foodie vacation itinerary. And since I'm completely immune to the whole frozen headache phenomenon (I suspect it's because my mouth is too big), I can enjoy without worry.
Khaki Gorey... but also it's amazing how their whole style of youtubeing almost has changed since leaving Korea to go to Japan. They're all nice travel vids and then food vids. That takes a lot of creativity 😁😁
Now that Simon has shaved off his hair but left his beard, he has the exact same look as my coworker who is annoying and mean to me! But this could be a good thing because now when I look at my coworker and instead of getting upset, I can think about how much I like Simon and Martina and Spudgy and Meemers :) spreading positive thoughts arounddddd
Hawaiian shave ice is almost like this too. There was a food truck here in Southern California that served it and it was amazing. Very light and flavorful, and no chunks of broken glass like the regular North American version. It's even better in Hawaii too where some places will add ice cream into the middle so you get the creamy texture of ice cream with the flavorful bites of the shave ice.
We have in Neaples too... but we call it Granita and usually it costs 1 euro.. yours is bigger than our but the idea is the same.. shaved ice and syrup.. ours is done by hand with a iron little box, big as a kitcken sponge, they scratch a big piece of ice put on a table and then add the syrup... good in summer with the hot weather.. a lot of hugs guys!
I really enjoyed watching this video because I love snow cones and have tried many types but not Japanese. I love the Hawaiian Shaved Ice and the Caribbean snow cones...I am can only imagine the skill in choosing the right block of ice and the ideal machines that works magic on that ice...the sauce should be the best...simple and humble that crack the ice crystals.....snow cones are great with ice cream too...
If you have the chance/want to come to Singapore/Malaysia, do try the ice kacang that we have! There's all kinds of combinations of shaved ice that's really yummy!
Martina's description of North American "shaved ice" is SPOT on and I laughed really hard.
Same goes for the South African version
And it's always the cheapest thing you can buy at a fair or theme park but it always butchers your tongue. The best part is how it always changes the colour of your tongue. That's it. 🌈
Simon and Martina LOL exactly! And you're like "it's so hot and i need something cold and it's ok it won't be that bad" and then your tongue feels like, as you said, you've been chewing/gnawing on crushed light bulbs. Cause that ish does NOT dissolve. And us sensitive teeth people are in immense pain. We understand each other.
They have this type of shaved ice in the US too, you just gotta know where to get it 😎
The soft type in this video is REALLY common down in the bayou around SE Texas and Louisiana. In fact this soft shave ice is basically the only type you see. Our machines look a little different than the one he uses, but they are also really old big cast iron things and we end up with a snowy powder that's really traditional to put a scoop of ice cream in the middle of!
My college nursing class starts today and I'm a little nervous so this video is just what I needed ☺️
Mina Oh my,good luck on your first class!! :-D
Mina I have many friends studying nursing here in Australia and they all enjoy it very much. It's a lot of hard work but very rewarding at the same time. Good luck at your first class ☺️☺️
George Ioannou33 thank you very much ☺️
Hannah Hong That's great! Thanks for the words of encouragement 😊👍🏾
im 4 weeks from graduating as a Nurse.. enjoy the ride.. it flies by and its an amazing profession!!
I'm from india and these are popular here too! They're called golas and are really common during the summertime and its dirt cheap. You can get like 6 of them for a dollar. :D
SAHIL NAIR OMG 6? CAN YOU GET ME SOME?
Orchid Blossom wish I could mail you some:D
SAHIL NAIR same in Pakistan, except you end up with stomach aches because it's so unhygienic.
Golas are😍👌
Same in Mexico, we call it “raspados” ✨💕
Peeps don't know just HOW HOT & HUMID Tokyo summer is and how freaking important #kakigori is to survive ヽ(^o^) bring on the 😎 cool ☃️
When I saw the pineapple shave ice, all I could think was, "As Canadians, didn't they learn to never eat the yellow snow?"
omfg hahaha
Please use the traumatic flashbacks of the expensive fruit whenever you have to talk about money in future videos. Preferably forever.
For this week's Food Adventure we're going to show you what shaved ice is all about, and give you a few tips to look out for when you order it yourself :D
Wooo notification squad💕
Notification squad :-) i miss spudgy and meemers' videos!
Simon and Martina oooh I'm so excited!!
What happened to Simon's hair?!?!?!?!?!
I support the kakicolada
Omg so I avoided kakigori so much in my last 3 trips to Japan because I thought it was like a snowcone... how I was so wrong.. x'D
Abipop omg XD
Also, NOTIFICATION SQUAD! Do you have shaved ice in your country? If so, what's it called? What's it like?
In philippines its called Halo-Halo
Simon and Martina we have snow cone trucks that come to our school sport carnivals and it's the paper cone one with sugary syrup on top 😂
Simon and Martina ABC 🙂
Simon and Martina just normal snow cones (but in a cup, not packed, with adorable gummy treats on top) 💞
Its called Gola.... shaved Ice with drenched in sherbet and Masala
shaved ice?
shaved simon.
DID SIMON GET HUS HEAD SHAVED
Edit : Don't mean in an offensive way his style looks nice
Glowing Otaku yh I've been noticing that his hair line has been receding over the past couple of years. It's my fave look on Simon thus far 👌🏼
He probably doesn't want to hear about his receding hairline...
For shave iced
Hannah Hong You know, sometimes it's good to keep thoughts to yourself
Al Funcoot It wasn't and offensive comment just cool down.
That safety outer cup is great. You can actually enjoy the food instead of eating it quickly because it's all melting and dripping as they let you fend for yourself. lol
Next level snow cone! Awesome! Love the depth of field on this one! I'll be sure to pack a mini malibu bottle!🍜👀👌
This was just the right amount of sass :D
I had intestinal surgery and was not allowed anything by mouth for days. Finally they gave me a tablespoon of chopped ice with no flavorings. That was the best snowcone I have ever had.
I love them... these intros really hype me up for no reason like i get excited just watching their intros

When you guys are converting the yen to dollars are you guys converting it to Canadian dollars or American? (I know they are so similar but I'm curious) hello from the Hudson valley!
I just do a general conversation to round up to the nearest number. So I guess it's in-between Canadian and American.
Jessi Dear They're not similar. US Dollar is worth more. Our stupid Canadian money... lol When you think you found something cheap, and then you realize it's in American dollars. 🙄
Jessi Dear Zimbabwean dollar
wow, never thought i'd see the 'Hudson valley' here
Jessi Dear hello from the Hudson Valley too! 😁👍🏼
In germany we actually have Shaved ice as well... but we love to "shave" it ourself, we call it "Kratz-Eis" scratch(ed/ing)-ice . Since we are scratching it with the spoon our self.
In Texas Mexicans have something like this we call raspas or raspados. very thinly shaved ice with flavoring, cream or fruits
AriMuruAi where do you go to get it?? I lived in tx my whole life but never had raspados!!
AriMuruAi cool!
i love the vanilla raspas with lechera!
AriMuruAi I ate those but it was not thin or fine pieces... but more like rough shaved ice with a lot of syrup
ok I adore Martina’s ability to describe food, I can imagine the flavor a million miles away. u brilliant. luv u martina
Woohoo, a new video! Hope you two have a great week! :D
This is gonna be a busy week!
Senpais (and slaves/staff of DR. Meemersworth and Spudgy) noticed my wife!
The soft focus in this video and the high quality images... *bites fist * That looks like a really hip area of Tokyo! And also this kind of shaved ice looks really great for us lactose-intolerant people. Thanks for sharing!
We have Ice Kacang in Malaysia

Chendol 🙌🙌🙌
Daughter Of Poseidon or ABC (air batu campur)

That ice shaving machine is possibly the coolest gadget I have ever seen. (I'm from NY) Martina's description of American shaved ice is spot on.
Im going to Japan in October. Super excited to try everything.
We should be having our meet up in October! Maybe we can see you there :D
Simon and Martina definitely I will try to make it if i can. 😊 I'm going to be in Okinawa.
I love it when she talks about the food!!!! She describes sooo good !!!! I love it !!👌👌👌👏
"it's really hard for me to get a brainfreeze with this"
............
"so I was wrong with the brainfreeze"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
In Louisiana we've got snowballs. Some places down here are very thinly shaved. New Orleans snow is great. Whenever I travel to Los Angeles to visit my friends we always get this thing called fluff ice. It pretty much the consistency of cotton candy and ice cream. It's great. They out fresh fruit in it. Plus with boba tea. Just the best! You guys always make me so happy. Keep it up!
oh wow I've never actually seen shaved ice made with an actual cube of ice... that's pretty neat! 👍
I thought it was pretty cool as well!
I love that they give you a tray. What service! Very thoughtful
ラフランス = La France = pear
I have had the Kakigori song stuck in my head for the past 2 weeks without context and whenever my mind is still or my house is quiet, that’s what pops into my head and I just have to laugh! Thank you for bringing these random pockets of crazy joy into the world for all us Nasties 💕
$150 Grapes: YES
$140 Melon: YES
$40 Strawberries: YES
$20 shaved ice: NOPE
BTW, love you guys
I've seen so many Facebook videos with this awesome shaved ice, but they never explain what it is, so thank you! 🍧🍧🍧
Oh! You switched from Canon to Sony mirrorless!
Aside from that, this video made me go into severe aftershocks of want for a bucket of shaved ice. A BUCKET I SAY.
The music you both use is always so fun and funky
Does anyone still remember when Simon wolfed down the gimbap a couple years ago?
cos I sure do..! XD
So it will be my first time in Tokyo, going in two weeks. I don't know a word of Japanese but you guys have inspired me to travel and get out of my comfort zone, I will definitely check it out, thanks guys!
Please do a video about what it's like to be tattood person in japan!
Where i live, we have something called Raspados. There's many types of raspados but my personal favorite is where they have a slice of cake bread (?) with flavored condensed milk (my favorite is with Tamarindo) it is so good!
Haha, looks like I'm not the only one who clicked on the notification as soon as it popped up. 😂😂😂
Thank you for turning your notifications on!
I legit was watching one of your older videos (Korean Shabu) and a new video popped up 😍😍😍 this is real happiness ✌🏻👌🏼
I think I've been spoiled. This is what my shaved ice looks like in Oklahoma.....I've never had the sno-cone pre-packaged thing you speak of.
awww, young simon and martina brought back some nice memorys watching you two late at night! (2:29) 懐かしい !!
Had to upload right when I get to schoooool 😩
heypotato same.....
Also early squad
I read the title of your video a few hours ago & ignored clicking on this video. Just saw that you guys uploaded it & here I am!!
I know you have a page on your blog for gear, but things have changed recently! Updated gear? Affiliate links?? Winkwink!
+BunnieButt yeah, I really need to update that page!
Simon and Martina I was just looking at that page and wondering if it needed updating!
I don’t know how you guys always manage to cheer me up, but thank you!!
What Flavour is France!?!?
I KNOW!!! We read it for like 5 minute going...PPUUU RAA NN CEE? Wait... France? Wait. No. Wait. What!? Only theory is that they'll make three colours like the French flag....
Sounds like it would be worth an additional $5 investment :P
Tarpo la france in japan refers to western pear:)
It's a French variety of pear! :)
I like how the style of ur videos have changed since you've been in Japan, it reminds of other Japanese youtubers or foreigners who live in Japan
Shaved ice
Shaved head
I Am The Walrus LMAOO
Loooool
I just started school today! At Cal State Fullerton waiting for my next class. Your videos really help me when I stress out so this is a nice (unintentional) gift for me... thank you!
Never clicked so fast.
Loved the editing on this one! The flashbacks were cracking me up! Love from the home of crappy snowcones TT
Simon you look super handsome with a shaved head!!! And Martina's buns and headband are adorable!!!!! You should do a hair tutorial!!!! WEEEEE!!!!!
I was just watching old videos. LOVE getting notified when you upload.xxx💖
I can't believe she just said crushed up lightbulbs

Nailed it ! Once again a fantasticly informative and enjoyable presenation - hooray ! Love from London UK x x x
did simon shave his hair off??!?!?!? or did nature take its course?
Aldrich Teng a bit of both i think
Hannah Hong looking back at their latest videos he has been hiding it under a hat. only saw what was underneath it now.
Yeah, but it's summer in Japan and hair is a bad idea.
i guess... but he does put it up in a man bun soo there's that
1:56 that description and sound effect is just like it taste...... Her description was so on point
Here in San Antonio and South Texas we have raspas, aka shaved ice, and paletas which are frozen fresh fruit pops. We like to put spicy salt on our fruit pops and color them with flowers like hibiscus. They taste amazing. It helps us survive the summer heat!
"What is Japanese shaved ice?"
Oh I dunno, what does it sound like?
osillo lmao
Shaved Ice!!
I feel like Martina's reactions from expensive foods has the potential to become a ringtone lol
I hate snow cones and ever since I saw your old video from Korea I have been trying to find a way to make or get patbingsu but I'm afraid it's always going to be that, crunchy glass kind 😹😹 this kind looks even better
Still my mission to find all of them (seems hard here in Florida)

Yay. New video. I was so sad when the podcast wasn't on apple this morning.
North American shaved ice can be prepared on the spot and look like this too! The prepackaged Snow Cones are the really hard ones to eat.
I love how you shot this!!! You told a great story!!!!
I think $5 is a lot for ice and juice
Save Alicejaxerques it’s very popular in Japan.
... Then don't buy it. The ice didn't magically appear out of nowhere. The ice didn't shave itself. Ice shaving machines don't drop from the sky. The fruit didn't juice itself. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Martina and Simon you guys are awesome ppl and I've been watching your vids for like two years hope your having a great week 😬👍🏼
Living for Simons new look, it suits him so weeell
5:29 Simon got nice calves 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
You guys are an awesome couple! Love, love your shows!
I have never had shaved ice ;-;
Loved the flashback and the new Simon's style!
could you do a video on tips how to not sweat so much in Japan? :,D
Tip 1: Stay indoors
Tip 2: Don't go outside
Unbeatable tactic! Thank you!! ;DD
I'm so jealous of simon not having to take care of his hair ahhhhh wish I could rock a shaved head like him
..... Awesome video btw🌈
#buildaladder
Yusss I've been waiting for Simon to shave his head! He looks awesome!
Dang, Simon. Looking daddy AF 😍😍😍😍
living for Martina's pink brows!!! and how her chibi has matching watermelon earrings!!
Your new haircut looks AMAZING Simon!
Omg! yes finally! I wanted one about just this since your Japanese ice cream video last year!!
Martina your hair and outfit is amazing!! Also incredible video as always I was just smitten
I love that area. My favourite of all in Japan. Shimokitazawa Glory Days.
I love these two
martina's outfit and hair is sooo cute!
New video!!! Woop woop! Love you guys 🙃
Just came back from Tokyo. We had a matcha shave ice with mochi, beans and caramel! Wow! Magnificent!
The camera work in this video is great!!
Piña-kaki or Kaki-colada 😂😂 Martina is hilarious! Also Simon without a beard and moustache!!!! So cute!
YUMM!! I love Simon's hair cut!
