Nice. I like the Contour's form factor but was unhappy with the inability to change camera settings. This will allow me to set up a card for each setting and swap them out.
In my contour folder I also have FW_RTC_DEFAULTS.txt, that is a read only file by default; I removed this file, made the changes to the FW_RTC.txt file, saved, and locked, as in your video. The new settings work, but when I plug the camera back in, or insert another sd card set up the same way, it still reverts back to the previous settings, and the FW_RTC_DEFAULT.txt reappears. I also made the changes to that file & locked it, but it always reverts to the orig file when plugged in. any ideas?
I confirm Vaxbuster's approach works on the Roam 2. The text file appears to include all the settings. Someone has written a Linux program to adjust all the settings with buttons and sliders. It would be easy to write for any computer OS.
I'm running the latest firmware too. Last ditch I can suggest is mount the sd card on your pc WITHOUT using the roam, use a card adapter, wipe the SD card clean, then install the TXT file only. Try that with both cards. I think the firmware can interfere with the data written on the SD card, but only if it's in the camera. Sorry I can't be more of a help. As for Contour going out of business, that sucks. Maybe we can at least get some mounts at a discounted price soon!
I did exactly as the video says and it does not work. I searched and found a link to contour's web site and downloaded the latest firmware and updated the camera with it. The date is now different for each video, but it does not increment the time correctly. It seems that it doesn't have a clock in the camera to keep the time.
Hey there, when using the usb cable and plugging into my laptop (mac) i do not see an external folder pop up! And also, i downloaded storyteller but it is not picking up my device. I also have a contour roam
Hi, this is probably late, but if you're still having this problem then try taking out the SD card and using an adapter to plug into your computer rather than a USB cable.
so, i realized that when i change the settings to the .txtfile, a hidden backup file is automatically created that prevents this from working... when i switch cards, it will revert to the previous setting. This file cannot be altered, moved or deleted. If I try to send it to the trash, a "trash" folder is created on the sd card and the file is sent there. Any input appreciated
If I format the card, the file disappears. It will have a DCIM folder, FW_RTC.txt, FW_RTCDEFAULT.txt(read-only), and getting started.url. There are no hidden files. Once I make the changes to the settings, and save, everything seems fine, but if I prompt to show hidden files again, that backup file appears and can't be manipulated in any way...
thanks for the reply. I'm using a pc but i tried your suggestion. Even when emptying the trashcan, the file still remains. It reads "FW_RTC.txt~". it's apparently a backup file, however, i can't open, delete it, edit or move it. I'm guessing it's something that contour did with the firmware to prevent hacks (i have the latest firmware), but since they went out of business a few weeks ago, there's no customer support to confirm or deny this.
Try copying that file to your computer, then unlock it or make it read/write-able, then edit on the computer and re-lock or make it read only again then replace the file that's on the camera.
hi I didn't think this was possible so really excited at the fact - I have a windows laptop and I have tried all of what you said yet each time I turn on the camera it stil keeps the old settings... I also tried it on my brothers mac and the same thing it will not lock - it seems that the camera is re writing over the settings each time! has anyone else got any ideas? Help greatly appreciated.
Hi. The story teller is not available on the contour site, so came up with this way here. I did all as described, but as soon as I unplug the camera from the usb cable, it all goes back again at the default settings. Any ideas?
Are you doing this on a Mac or PC? If you're on a Mac, when you replace the file on your sd card, make sure you empty your computers trash before ejecting the card, it should also empty the "trash" on your sd card and hopefully fix your problem. Also make sure you change that "Update" to "Y" in the txt file. Let me know if you figure it out.
We can now change setting via the Contour connect app (google play) and a OTG (on the go) cable on your android smart phone or tablet if they are OTG enabled, changing settings the easy way without a computer. check out my vid to see it working. ua-cam.com/video/2ms2-5wABwE/v-deo.html
Big help!! I'm running Linux so the contour software isn't an option. This is much easier anyway!! Thanks, Bro!!

Thank you for that, it works on a roam2 and windows 7. I just changed the file to "only read" type.
I'm running the latest firmware too. Last ditch I can suggest is mount the sd card on your pc WITHOUT using the roam, use a card adapter, wipe the SD card clean, then install the TXT file only. That is so cool. I have the Roam 3, and I only received a 8GB card. I'm going to see if I can do the same to a couple other cards.

Awesome video bro. Thanks for the info -- I was wondering how to get this to work.

How do I get to set the read only all across the board, and then lock? I couldn't that page.

On a Mac right click or "command+I", on PC right click and select "properties".
Good work!
Thanks. Glad to help.

One more thing, on a Mac right click and select "Get Info"
Just found this vid. Nice work around, but you're still using a computer to edit the text file. So, without a computer? No.
great!

the true hack is having multiple cameras with a different sd on each one with the settings you want
