We also had a hard time removing the cover of our LG LRMVS3006s fridge (wide rectangular cover). I'm 5'2", so I knew I was going to have a hard time reaching the top back of the fridge. I used a step ladder and the cover *would not* budge. After reading other comments, I was able to successfully remove the cover by pressing back on the right side of the cover and then pushing the right side upwards. The left side was still stuck, but was able to push back and downwards on the left side for it to release. Both made awful plastic cracking sounds. Nothing appears broken though, it was just loud 😆. It felt rather risky to lean so far over the side of the step ladder in order to apply enough pressure 😅. But it worked!
We appreciate you leaving us your thorough review with regard to your experience in removing the cover for the air filter. Should you have any other questions or concerns regarding this, don't hesitate to reach out to us for more information. ^Anthony
This is the worst design ever. Period. Total junk. On the video it shows twisting and it come off. No so in reality. I still cannot get it off. It barely moves when twisting. This is the last time I buy an LG product. This should be incredibly easy and intuitive. Not making a project that requires research and jumping on social media to figure out. Changing air filters and water filters should be super easy and intuitive. I can think of dozens of designs to make it easy. I am clearly angry of these incompetent LG engineers that can take something so ridiculously simple and make it so incredibly difficult and complicated.
had a bear of a time getting the rectangular cover off, tried squeezing, pushing then turning and any other solutions i read online. turned out the trick for me was to remove the two top shelves to give my arm enough 'wiggle' room to get a better grip. once i did that, in all seriousness the cover finally opened. after replacing the filter, i then opened and closed the cover several times to 'break it in' so it comes off easier the next time. i might not have to remove the shelves next time but time will tell.
The same thing that happened to @freebie... happened to me. I've done this three times and it's always the same. It's not easy getting the rectangular cover off. I thought I was going to break it too! After watching this video and reading comments, it still took work to get it off. I had to use a step stool and anchor myself with my other hand on the top of the fridge. It made a loud cracking sound but it did not break. Too bad people have to remove food and shelves to replace a simple filter. I wish they had designed this with an easier way.
Hi, Emily! We appreciate your feedback; your filter should have been more straightforward to remove than that, so we'd love to hear more about what happened. If you could send us some info with the link below, our refrigerator development team will have a better idea of ways we can improve, and your ideas may just be implemented in future updates! spr.ly/6052PeFgG ^Ian
Terribly hard to remove the air filter cover. I had to stand on a chair, rest my knee inside the frig, pound on the cover and twist with lots of pressure! I love my LG refrigerator, but they need an easier design to remove the cover!

Thanks so much! Like most people thought I broke it. Now I have extra filters, didn’t know this existed when I changed my first 3 pack of water of filters, I just threw the air filters in a drawer, didn’t know where they went
Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand that it can be confusing at times to know all the features and components of our products. We're glad to hear that this video was able to resolve the issue with your LG refrigerator. If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else, don't hesitate to reach out to us via Facebook or X (Twitter) at @LGUSSupport, and we'll be happy to accommodate you. `Alice
I endorse all of the above comments. It's extremely hard to remove the cover. I tried several times for 2 days, even considered calling a Plummer. I had to apply a lot of force to finally remove it!!!!!!
On my new LG frig with the rectangle air filter cover ,and after talking to an advisor on the phone , I had to use considerable force with two hands to twist the cover off. I thought I was going to break it with the amount of force I had to use . It finally came off without breaking. Putting the filter cover back on was very easy and then taking it off a second time was easy as well . The agent and I were not sure why the first time removing the filter cover was so hard. The agent assured me that in taking it off, had it broke, LG would have replaced it under warranty without charge. The agent was very good and stayed on the line until the issue was resolved.
Thank you for your feedback. If you need further assistance, please contact LG Customer Support by direct message via Twitter ( @LGUSSupport ) or Facebook Messenger ( facebook.com/LGUSA/ ), and include your contact details, the model & serial numbers, and a detailed description of the issue. ^NS
Yes these filters are the worst design to remove. And I'm in the hvac/r trade. These filters don't get dirty they are inside your refrigerator. And if an odor issue, time to throw the food out.

My experience to a tee. Thought I was gonna break it the first time, said "the heck with it and gave it a counter-clockwise wrench", then the left side was still "hung up". After complete removal and filter replaced? i took the cover off and put it back on smooth and easy...just that first time was difficult
After opening 20 web tabs trying to find out the part number for our LG model Refrigerator, I finally found one that "implied" that it would fit. My problem was that we are on our 2nd LG model, and our 1st one had the square cover and the new one had a rectangular cover. I used the LG website and put in my model number....no results. I downloaded our manual, and no mention of the air filter period. I went to 3rd party webpages and still came up empty. I knew the water filter had changed to a new part, so a rectangular cover instead of a square one made me question if it had a different part. I spent over an hour trying to find any kind of information and decided to look at mine. I'm glad I read all the comments below so I didn't break the cover like so many have done, and boy was I surprised when I took it off. There was NO AIR FILTER in our new refrigerator. I had a square one left from our previous model, so I put it in and everything works. But you sold me a refrigerator with NO FILTER. That is insane.
We're sorry to hear about your experience with your refrigerator. We know that this is not the ideal one that we are trying to achieve. Allow us to rectify the issue. @LGUSASupport I enter my model number (LFXC22526D) and I get further info to choose the variation - none of the various listed match my LG. I assume that the 0L1B1753 number on the spec tag (under the model number) would be my variation, but of course that number is not listed anywhere. Maybe that's not my variation?
I have the square filter cover and if you had hard time taking off this one, try "squeezing" the sides of the cover then turn it left as strong as you can (sometimes it will not require much strength after squeezing). That was the easiest way for me. Not sure if this will work with the rectangular cover as I don't have it.

Needs a redesign. Cover is very difficult to get off. Had to take everything off the top shelves and remove them, use a ladder to have enough force to get it off & thought I was going to break the cover. Hope LG reads these comments. Also, there seems to be a plastic film around the rectangular air filter. Should that be there?

I was able to get the stupid cover off with this tip. Also, once you get remove the cover I would lightly oil the plastic clips on the cover (both left and right). It makes it easier to remove the next time.
Clearly this air filter is a design failure. Stupid challenge to replace an unimportant item. Many good products are available than their filter and do a better job!
My refrigerator model LRFOC2606S/00. I can not find a AIR filter that fits. The manual calls for a LT120F filter. That filter has a frame around it and the one in mine does not. The frame will not fit in the cover. Tried to remove the frame and the charcoal filter breaks apart. Also the filter sets in the cover at an angle. What is the correct filter for this?
Hey there, John. We appreciate you asking us this question. As you mentioned, the correct Replacement Air Filter for this unit is LT120F. If this does not fit this refrigerator, we'd like to further troubleshoot this. To do so, we'd need to move to a private back-and-forth conversation, please send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport and include your contact details, model, and serial number. ^Anthony
@@LGUSASupport I have the exact same problem. Got the cover off but it does not look like this video, there is no frame, there is a piece of filter in a gauze bag over what appears to be a piece of styrofoam all set at a wonky angle
Are we supposed to remove the tape from the bottom edges of the replacement filter or leave it on? It seems like the tape is all that's holding the filter together.

My filter cover on an LRF model has an angled clip that isn’t square like the filter? Also you show the install placing the filter in and then write “front” on the side that will end up being in the rear??
Hi, thanks for reaching out! When replacing it, please place the filter with the 'Front' of it facing outward (As can be seen at the 0:39s mark in the video) Furthermore, filter covers can vary depending on their models. Should you need further assistance with replacing the filter for your model, don't hesitate to reply to this message with your complete model number! ^Chris www.lg.com/us/support/help-library
Mine too! I just replaced my air filter, and what I did was to rip the entire interior of the new filter cartridge out of the white plastic frame. Then I "disected" the old filter and removed the black plastic square with holes throughout it. I used that as a holder by placing it on top of the new filter (sans frame). It went back in where the old one was and I was able to reattach the filter cover. Bizarre that they'd start making a parallelogram holder for the square filter cartridg they incorrectly spec in the owners manual. Somebody at LG really screwed up! By the way, LG charges 5x as much as they should for these air and water filter cartridges. I just paid $48 on Amazon for 3 sets of both filters, i.e., an 18 month supply of BOTH. I bought ICEPURE brand (and paid extra for their top-of-the-line ICEPURE PRO water filter set), but there are many with very high ratings. Our original LG water filter cartridge is really poor quality; despite purging it as instructed when we first bought the refrigerator, it never stopped delivering charcoal fines into the water. They're not noticeable when you first pour a glass of water, but after it sits for a while, the fines are very noticeable at the bottom of the glass. I assume they've also been in all our ice cubes. So much for sticking the LG replacement filters. They're obscenely overpriced and not as good as replacement brands. Also, I had the same thought on "front" that actually ends up in the back! LOL
@@LGUSASupport your answer doesn’t explain anything. It just reiterates… If you put “Front” in as shown then it becomes a rear facing side? Why? After buying the filter that is consistent with my model I find the filter to be a square but the filter holder is a parallelogram shape. Where can I buy the filter that is parallelogram??
My rectangular cover finally twisted off after a lot of forces was applied doing the first filter change. Alas, one of the retaining clips on the cover broke, cracking the flange on which the clip is molded. Very simple design, but it should have had more robust tabs - how much would a bit more plastic cost? Also, it should have a ramped or rounded surface on the clip's retaining ridge, rather than the square surface it currently has. That would enable it to release more readily.

What air filter do I need for LRFLC2706S? It says LT120F is my air filter but theres no way it’s going to fit? Do I need to take it out of white frame?

Unclear about the cover struggles mentioned in the comments, mine comes right off on my LFXS28968S/00 However, I came here looking for info about the filter orientation. When installed the way shown in this video, the front logo ends up facing the rear of the fridge? So its confusing :) But I see now front faces you when installing the filter into the cover plate.
We're glad you were able to clarify the filter orientation issue. Yes, it can be a bit confusing when the instructions or tutorials show the filter installed one way, but it's actually meant to be installed in a different orientation. To confirm, when installing the water filter cover plate on your LG LFXS28968S/00, the front logo should indeed face forward and towards you, not towards the rear of the fridge. So, make sure to align the cover plate with the filter correctly and secure it properly to ensure a snug fit. We hope this clears up any confusion, and please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns by sending us a private message through @LGUSSupport on Facebook or X. ^Danee
@@LGUSASupport but “FRONT” faces me when I’m putting the filter into the filter cover/housing. But once the cover is installed in the fridge, the front logo is actually now facing the rear of the fridge - not the doors. That’s why I’m confused

I have refrigerator model LRFLC2706S. The filter that was in the removable cover in the fridge and that came with the fridge when purchased was just the charcoal, and was not within the cardboard windowpane looking thing. Do I have to remove the carbon from inside the cardboard windowpane looking cardboard cover on the new filter I buy prior to installing in the fridge? I tried this on a new filer I purchased (model # LT120F) , but the carbon is taped pretty heavily to the carboard cover and the carbon filter broke into pieces, rendering it useless and wasting my money.
Hi David! In looking through the manual and instructions on how to change the filter, no you don't have to make any modifications to the filter before installing it. Are you not able to install the new filter (model LT120F is the correct model filter) because of an obstruction from an old incorrectly installed filter? If so, please DM us pictures of the old filter and if possible, how it was installed before to our Facebook or Twitter handle (@LGUSSuppport). We look forward to taking a closer look at this! ^Chris spr.ly/6059PRD8v

I am thoroughly confused. I just changed the water filter but had a hard time pulling the old one out and didn’t want to break it so I watched a video and I am all set with the water filter. The video mentions changing the fresh air filter. I had no idea there was a filter that needed to be changed. So I removed the Fresh Air Filter cover and there was never any filter there. Was there supposed to be one when I bought it? I had it installed by HD so I assumed they would have installed the necessary parts. Anyway, I have scoured the internet, the LG website, Amazon, etc., for the replacement filter. I cannot locate the appropriate filter anywhere? I have model # LFCC23596S. It has the door for the beverage center on the right but no water dispenser. It dispenses ice through the freezer, not the door. Why can’t I find the filter?

A number of people suggested hitting with your right hand on the right side of the filter cover to knock it loose. That didn't work for me, but then I used a mallet. my LG makes noises when I move shelves around and they don't settle properly; also when I put too much stuff in the veggie drawer and it is not perfectly balanced, and when bottles of wine are too close together, they tend to rattle
Instead of a fan like shown at 0:42 I can see styrofoam there. And there is no filter either. I’m having a cooling issue in my fridge but the freezer works fine. Can that be the issue?

I'm a 78 year old woman. I'm unable to budge that cover and afraid I'll break it. Even standing on a stool to get good leverage, no go. Will it hurt to just not change the filter???
We understand where you're coming from, Judy. To answer your question, neglecting to replace your refrigerator's air filter could have detrimental effects. The refrigerator may have to work harder than necessary if the filter is blocked with impurities over time, which limits its efficacy. This may result in increased energy costs and a shorter fridge lifespan. What we can recommend is try to ask someone to help you change it.

Hi there! We understand how important it is to reset the light when replacing the air filter. We would be happy to help you with additional troubleshooting steps. First, make sure you are pressing the "Air Filter Reset" button, and not just the symbol. Hold it down for 3 seconds. Second, try pressing the fridge or freezer button to wake the control panel. Then, open and close the refrigerator door to see if the panel lights up. If the issue persists, press and hold the "Air Filter Reset" button again for 3 seconds after ensuring the display is active. If the light still doesn't turn off after attempting these steps, please contact us for help on social media @LGUSSupport with your contact details. ^Anthony
Also, I never had a filter in it for the 2 years I've had the refrigerator. I'm not even sure why it needs a filter, because most things that need a filter would have dirt hanging around it and this was spotless, so I think the filter is a scam overall in this usage and of course LG charges like 75.00 for a filter or two if you were actually going to buy directly from them, DON'T😅

Everyone here commenting how the rectangular air cover is difficult to remove: it gets better with time. The plastic seems to soften and wear down making removal easier. In six months when you have to change the air filter again it'll be a bit easier to remove and you'll go into it with confidence. I believe in you. You can do it! You will have the freshest fridge air and never again be vanquished by the plastic demon of misery that restricts your pursuit to freshness.
Does LG even read these comments. No one wants hard to replace filters. Certainly they should be capable of making filters that maybe slide in and out of a holder. A complicated, difficult cover doesn’t make the filter work any better than a simple, easy to use one would.
We're certainly here and ready to help with your inquiries, Frances! While we offer Air Filters that can be easily replaced, we want to ensure our team knows your concerns. When you get a chance, please provide us with your feedback through this link in the comment so our appropriate team can look more into this: www.lg.com/us/support/feedback. ^Anthony
I noticed that in the video they start with the rectangular cover already slightly removed so it looks easy. I was able to get mine off twice with an unbelievable amount of force. Putting it on was easy. I'm sure it will fail. It is an unacceptable design and LG should stand behind their products and provide replacement parts for free. I will test these items in any future device I purchase.

Well the video sucks. Even if you watch the correct video - they take it off with s simple twist. Which we all know ain't happening. After reading all the comments and that if you break it its not covered. As well as the time wasted- i determined its easier and cheaper to just use good old fashioned baking soda in a box and not F**k with it. Its a PITA and LG knows it. I repair stuff all the time and this is ridiculous! Last LG product i will purchase. LG spend another nickel in your design and freakin test it before sending it out. All the customer reps saying to write me it total BS bc they can't help unless you want to purchase either help or replacement parts! My suggestion to all is don't keep trying until you break it. Leave it alone once you have tried and get frustrated- baking soda has worked fine for me for decades and decades. Just bc its there doesn't mean its worth your time. Too bad- LG otherwise pretty good fridge. Just my 2cents fwiw! Peace

^Anthony
same except that I'm 5'6"
This thing is just stupid hard to take off, you really do feel like you're going to break it. Thankfully i ress yalls comments which helped immensely
It is really stiff to twist. I used both hands and thought that I have broken it when it did come off.
had a bear of a time getting the rectangular cover off, tried squeezing, pushing then turning and any other solutions i read online. turned out the trick for me was to remove the two top shelves to give my arm enough 'wiggle' room to get a better grip. once i did that, in all seriousness the cover finally opened. after replacing the filter, i then opened and closed the cover several times to 'break it in' so it comes off easier the next time. i might not have to remove the shelves next time but time will tell.

My experience to a tee. Thought I was gonna break it the first time, said "the heck with it and gave it a counter-clockwise wrench", then the left side was still "hung up". After complete removal and filter replaced? i took the cover off and put it back on smooth and easy...just that first time was difficult
Mine broke the first time using it. $50 to replace this 50 cent piece of plastic. WTF LG?

My refrigerator model LRFOC2606S/00. I can not find a AIR filter that fits. The manual calls for a LT120F filter. That filter has a frame around it and the one in mine does not.
It just reiterates…
If you put “Front” in as shown then it becomes a rear facing side? Why?
After buying the filter that is consistent with my model I find the filter to be a square but the filter holder is a parallelogram shape.
Where can I buy the filter that is parallelogram??
Same question, what’s with the parallelogram shape?
@@ryanpoh6721 SAME here - it's a parallelogram with a perforated black piece inside a gauze bag over a piece of styrofoam at a very wonky angle.

Unclear about the cover struggles mentioned in the comments, mine comes right off on my LFXS28968S/00
However, I came here looking for info about the filter orientation.

^Chris

You need to hit it with your hand in the upper right corner. I found a video on it on UA-cam. Only that worked.
A number of people suggested hitting with your right hand on the right side of the filter cover to knock it loose. That didn't work for me, but then I used a mallet. It didn't knock it off, but it apparently loosened enough for me to turn it and pull it off. When I saw the condition of the filter, I was glad I persevered to get the cover off and the filter replaced.

This is so dumb, I took the cover off and there was as it turns out, no filter in it. But I was trying to take the next piece off for a second ....fortunately I didn't because I thought there was a filter underneath that😅😅

Broke first time I tried it, after watching the instructions on this video. Very poor design. :(
NOT EASY 😩😫…..I don’t understand design engineers. I love LG appliances but this filter replacement process is awful.

Extremely hard to see the panel. Not well illuminated at all. Engineering mistakes like this shouldn’t happen ever, especially from a big company like LG. The Testing department is probably very lousy.

WORST design EVER. Broke the cover hinge after watching the video and following instructions. $80 replacement part plus tax and shipping. Baking soda does the job.

stupid design, I cannot remove without breaking
Peace
