HK91 vs Remington 700 Velocity Test

  • Here I am testing my HK91A3 with a 18" barrel vs my Remington 700 with a 24" barrel over my chronograph. I was using Hirtenberger 7.62x51mm NATO as a control. The wind was crazy and so I cut the video session short. My camera and chronograph as well as my target were blown over many times. Hopefully the wind will subside in the next week or two.
This was an interesting comparison test between the two barrel lengths. Next time we will compare the 5.56mm.

Couldn't really hear much with the wind blowing so hard, but extremely glad to see you still making videos. You sir are the #1 reason and the person that got me started in reloading my own ammo. I've made it so far from where I started. Many thanks to you Ammosmith.

The wind overpowered my Rode microphone. Thanks Brother! I'm glad you're making your own ammunition. It's the only way.

Once I get a trusty assistant I will incorporate martial arts into the videos...since I earned my black belt in Kenpo\Escrima.

Thank you for sharing your data. I have a PTR-91 w/18" barrel and I was wondering about velocity levels.

I think this video proves that bullet specific BDC scopes are pretty much a useless fad.

The new microphone did alright considering the high winds. My chronograph got tossed over and the flew apart. It's okay but I was nervous that it broke.

Little wind noise but still sounds good.
You're not in NoCal anymore? If I ever leave CA , I'd move to Idaho too.
Glad to see you on here more.

I got out of California while the getting was good. Only problem is we have a lot of liberal idiots moving here.

Ammosmith Reloading they say liberal stupidity spreads like cancer. NV and AZ is the same. I was hoping ID would stay as pure as the potatoes they grow. Well, enjoy the free state. Cheers.

In Idaho there's NO weapons restrictions at all. It's a class 3 state and constitutional carry.

Many don't anyways. I try to get like minded gun nuts to get out and vote. Gorgeous state. Lots of great things here.

The wind in the high desert is strong and unpredictable. I hope to get back out and do some shooting next week.

What kind of groups are you getting with your hk91? I have ptr barrel and my groups are ok to terrible, but I'm thinking its me being recoil sensitive/flinching, some rifles I shoot well and some not so well.

It'll stay within an inch with good ammo. Surplus about 1.5".

Thank you for responding! Can you give me any tips for proper shooting technique. I have loaded < 1.25 moa ammo for my Romanian psl. But am really struggling to do better than 2-5 moa with my home built hk91 . The barrel is free floated, no sights magpul psr stock and a 3-15 swfa scope.

The barrel quality is critical. The HK factory triggers are notoriously heavy as well. In my experience the HK doesn't like bullets weighing more than 168 grains and mine likes the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. As far as triggers...try a PTR91 trigger group.

Yes. You wont get as many loading but yes you can. The ammunition I was using is Berdan Primed. I still picked it up to show comparison. Also I leave the range better than I found it. The fluting isn't the bad part. It's the huge crescent dent on the side of the case that causes issues. The dent will mostly come out when full length resized. Then it will "iron" out when fire formed.

That's a lot of money. 7.62 NATO runs about $50 a case and 7.62x39 runs about $220 a case here.

tfr51 best reloader on you tube has more usefull info than anyone. not to mention all the advanced level ammo smithing/manufacturing secrets. with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions ill listen to his windnoise before anyone else on utube when it comes to reloading, load theory, data and procedures. theres noone with more the variety thats covered in such detail that its really made simple. this channel also has the best scope of alternative means of reloading as well as reloading styles and facets. the only thing thats not covered in depth is powdercoating and fortune cookie45lc has that covered.
