This was great! The last video I watched had someone trying to explain Shane's aiming system. Although the guy did a great job it was nice to have Shane himself explain his thinking.
I was used to the ghost ball aiming system for more than 18 years. Since I 've switched to a carbon fibre shaft I also started to use this aiming system. The output after a couple of month of practice has been impressive.
I have an impression that's not necessarily how he aims but it's more like a good system to explain to someone where you aim. Like, it's most probably automatic for him but you need to provide some reference if people ask you where you aim in this particular shot.
I appreciate posting this video to see it, but there is one missing piece of this that I do not understand that is not covered in this video. Aiming with outside english. If you do his method of aiming a piece of the shaft to a piece of the ball, on the same cuts he did with inside spin, this system seems to fall apart some. This would be because you would be aiming the left side of the shaft and as you get thinner would have to aiming off to a spot on rail with no reference point to the ball at all. When Shane got to the thin cut with inside english he aimed the center of his shaft instead of the right side so he moved more left to compensate for the inside english, but could still aim at the ball. You cannot do this with a thinner cut or most of more steep cut angles with outside english. This is a shot I struggle with so much because I want to have a consistent aim point instead of aiming to the rail or guessing the squirt on the shot. Does anyone know how to make this aim system work with outside english?

It's the point at which the object ball touches the table. So there is only one point - the very bottom of the object ball, even on a round ball a bigger ball - there aren't in pool, but for example a basketball sized ball). It may touch a larger surface area of the table, but it's still the center of that surface area). Note: That sometimes a straight shot is aimed very slightly left or right of the pocket. Where the ball touches the table, there is a very , very deep shadow that the object ball casts onto the table. It's usually only about a thin dime edges width to the right of left of dead center. You can use that deep shadow to aim at too. If the cut is slightly left, aim center tip at the right deepest part of that shadow. Conversely, if the cut is very slightly right, use the center of the cue stick to aim at the left deep edge of that same shadow. Again, it is only a very slight dime edge width adjustment. On many amateur tables with larger pockets, the adjustment isn't needed because the object ball is smaller than the pockets and it will just cheat the pocket. As the pockets get smaller on a table 4.25 or 4 inch pockets, those 3 parts of the deepest shadow become more important to prevent the object ball from wobbling in the pocket. At your local pool hall, or on a bar table, it's less important to worry about. Good luck!
