Apparently Haven: Call of the King was made by the devs behind all the Lego video games.
Also, yeah, the game is hella Christian according to the Wikipedia page. The director said the traitor is named Dasis after juDAS IScariot and the ending "parallels the crucifixion"
The unskippable opening credits was the giveaway re: the development studio -- all the Lego games are like that and it's frustrating as shit.

Honestly, as much as a reputation Travelers Tales has (one that definitely isn't undeserved), Jon seems like a genuinely talented guy who's heart in the right place, even if his games end up being below par.
Haven was really ahead of it's time conceptually, it's kind of hard to remember sometimes when the list of features on the box is just 'things in every videogame' nowadays. It even preceded Jak 2 by a whole year! Shame the execution was more than a little rough. Finding out it's a stealth Christian game was pretty funny though. I like Gamehut's content but his video on how hid a bunch of bible passages in Sonic R was a real eye opener lol.

Regarding Haven, there’s a youtube channel Gamehut that is owned by one of the programmers of that game and he breaks down all the cool tech they created for haven. He also breaks down the old sonic games he worked on and I think it’s right up your alley if you haven’t already seen it.

Even if Haven isn't very good, in the very least it seems like the kind of game that a kid would form a bizarre emotional attachment to and assume is good for the rest of their life.

Oh God, I think I saw Angel Wars in a video store once. Might've been the reboot, as I don't remember it looking THAT bad, but holy shit. If you can manage it, it'd absolutely be worth archiving that shit.
I really wanted that angle wars guy to yell "Carlson and Peters" as he hurtled through space.
My sister bought Haven for $5 because she wanted to see dog fighting, thinking it was actual dogs fighting.
I really enjoyed the first half of gungrave, the rise to power within a criminal syndicate of a pair of young punks. A ccmpelling story of comraderie in the crinimal underworld and eventual betrayel for the sake of power.
Then the second half is generic weeb shite. Pity. :-T
Oh yikes... I don't know if that doctor character in Haven was intended as a racist caricature of Asian people but that's certainly how he came across. The stealth Christian theming may be a little odd or weird, and for all I know it gets worse later in the game as it becomes more blatant or ideologically questionable, but that character goes beyond odd and becomes genuinely unpleasant on a couple of levels.
So after people saying in chat that cid the dummy was on steam I had to look it up, and rather than this game it's a game called crash dummy. It seems to have the same characters but it's a weird newgrounds ass looking 2D game that somehow came out last month on Steam............WTF!!!!
Why is the main character in Haven literally just fucking Fred Durst? Why did they decide to make a Fantasy adventure game starring Fred Durst?
I had this game when I first got my PS2, and the detail of him putting on his hood when it rains stuck with me

Awesome that you got your job with Volition back! Your LPs have always been super great Chip, even you super old No More Heroes stuff and your retsupurae stuff, and you and Ironicus are easily the highlight of Gextra Life.
The scientist in CID *has* to be the same VA as the guy who played the gay-coded villain (?) in that Resident Evil But Underwater game
The VR Gungrave game turned out to be kind of crap, mostly because it was a game that was clearly not designed with VR in mind. Here's hoping G.O.R.E. turns out better.
Haven looks like a Jankier, more unintuitive version of Jak and Daxter, but at the same time looks like alot of effort was put into it and they were trying to make a good game. Makes me curious

I love Gungrave. More people should love Gungrave. Maybe then we'd get more games like it.
I remember playing haven as a child and then forgot everything about it except for some of the first level and it’s been bothering me forever.
Okay, so like, Haven really touts there being no load screens in the game, that it can hit all these notes of story, exploration, puzzle solving, action, etc., and that's all well and good, but just to put things in perspective, it released on November 17th, 2002. Ocarina of Time had released about four years prior. But sure, you can't get that experience anywhere else. Also Haven is ugly as sin, and while OoT may be angular and its controls aren't amazing compared to current standards, I sure as hell would go to OoT first. On top of that, Wind Waker released just two months after Haven, and like, just compare the graphics of those two games.
But that's not what's significant about the date. Haven shared a release date with goddamn Metroid Prime. Which has a 97% metacritic score. Just in case anybody had any illusions about whether or not it's good. For two games released on the same day with pretty similar goals of free-form exploration in a seamless world (not counting the fact that everything in MP is a loading screen once you peel back the layers), it's pretty surprising how greatly they differ in quality. But you know what? I will agree that Haven is an experience you can't get anywhere else. And I don't think that's a bad thing. Seriously, I never want to look at the main character's face ever again.
Also that doctor is the most racist thing I've seen in a while, and there are literal nazis walking around in the streets.
The ending of any game should not involve crucifixion or cliff hangers or any combination of the two.
Whoever told you that you were bad at accents is absolutely wrong. Super entertaining!
