As someone who has never played 8-X since I’m still stuck on 6-X, I have no clue what’s wrong but it definitely SOUNDS wrong.
Edit: I have officially played 8-X a few hundred times and have completed it. It has 5-X Crab Syndrome.

5-X is in 5/4, 6-X in (somehow 7)&4/4, and 7-X in 7&4/4
so if they made a 13-X then they would be even more cursed (such as long diagonal _offbeats, non 2^x divisions of a whole note (such as 5/7, 31/27, 27/63 and a lot more), removing/adding extra notes/tiles that aren't part of the current time signature, unfinished tuplets..)
