Because he won the heart of people who followed him from childhood, who witnessed his abuse by his own federation. Many people decided to support him between 2018 and 2022 because they saw his fight with the corrupt system and saw that he didn't give up no matter how hard he was hit. He stood up again and again and every of his performances got stronger and stronger. There is no other skater at this moment who could skate his two Olympic programs from Beijing. Yuzu fans very publicly bullied Zhenya, even on her instagram comment (you can go and see them) and were sending her death threat, this isn't anyone being delusional, it's literally facts. He does look lonely and they're not the only person in the comment section to notice it, even I did. Even now in the comment section of youtube videos, I still see Yuzu fans saying nasty things about Zhenya even though her and Yuzu have limited their public interactions.
