I think Mr. Bird looks like an embrace; an embrace made as a man. This was wonderful! I was in the hospital fighting COVID19 AND Pneumonia. I MADE IT, & here I am! Only LOVE to ALL...
Omg zach is so nervous about playing and jamming with Andrew. And Andrew is just so accepting of him and his level. They're both so curious about each other's work and how they create these pieces. It's like, they're both so nervous but they're both so great.
You realize that Zach is not just frustrated with Bird but is actually messing with him and his pretentiousness…you get that, right? And I actually like most of Bird’s music
"Comedians are the new folk singers." This is exactly it! Zach also nails the story of a nice town disappearing under box stores. Great interview, gorgeous music. Cheers!
I love his whistling. When I was a young child, my grandfather was surprisingly a great whistler on our walks. I was always amazed that such a quiet, hard, military man had such a beautiful whistle in him. It is a shame that we have forgotten about something so natural (that requires no instruments or training)... I am glad that Andrew is reminding us how beautiful this almost lost art form can be. I bet 100 years ago, the average American man took whistling completely for granted, a given,a natural skill. and now, in such a short time (my grandfather always whistled beautifully on walks, my father I think could but never really did, to my generation where whistling is sort of stared at as an oddity), such a wast of something so natural. Andrew reminds me how beautiful it can be.
So. I'm embarrassed to say I had never heard of Andrew Bird before. I am furious that no one has told me about him. Besides his obvious talent with instruments and writing music, his vocals are unreal! Effortless interval jumps, perfect vibrato, and dynamics. Wow. Many artists today have easily copied vocals, but I doubt many could copy that pure tone and quality. I'm done gushing. Also, I'm so used to Zach saying something funny when he pauses to think, that even when he's not telling jokes I can't help but laugh at his face.
Agreed! Now go listen to his whole catalogue! He has a bunch of albums, tons of variety, incredibly talented and humble. The guy has been consistent for over a decade, glad he's getting more shine in the last couple years
I try to tell everyone I ever meet about him! I’ve seen him live 4 times and take a different person with me every time so they can see the brilliance. He’s just as amazing live! Go and do that! He’ll be on tour this year and I’m seeing him again in July.
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓! Thank you Zach for taking a risk, exposing your honest, vulnerable self out there. We've all had that stage fright/"I shouldn't be here" feeling. It is nice to see someone so famous still has that feeling too. And I really appreciate the very real, honest conversation too. This was great.
Have listened to Andrew for the better part of 10 years. So nice to see the human side of him and also Lull. So amazing. Also, Zach is a genius as always.
Watching this now that Bird's My Finest Work Yet is out is super interesting. He was likely working on a lot of the songs already at this point, but you can also see how the discussions he has with Zach leads directly into the more overtly political themes on the album. The songs are just incredible, and these two human beings touch my soul in a way that gives me genuine hope. Thank you, Andrew, for putting these up during this surreal, disconnected time.
He's interviewing Zach Galifaniakikis. I can't even imagine what the lead up to that during prep for the interview has to be like. It's probably like trying to open a jar with your hand covered in butter, but the jar is a bomb.
@@DB-pt6zj: If you listen to the interview, they are old friends who have met many, many times for years and years. Andrew used to rent Zach's California house for some time (enough that Andrew wrote a song about that house, and Zach got choked up on stage thinking about it). And they both often perform at Largo enough that they have met there many times, and had many conversations in the greenroom as well. They actually KNOW each other. ALSO, Zach asked Andrew to compose the music for Zach's show 'Baskets' at least 2 years prior to this video. They obviously know each other pretty well and are actual friends. (so not at all like opening a bomb with your hand covered in butter at all. More like good longterm friends agreeing to do something in front of the camera together.)
That "moderation" line that Zach really likes. It's a good line, but also, it's saying the same thing as the old adage: "Everything in moderation, including moderation." Really enjoyed this, though. As a part-time musician myself, I completely relate to Zach's nervousness in sitting in with actual good musicians.
This must have been intimidating/nerve-racking as hell for Zach. I really respect that he did it, didn't back out of something so obviously out of his comfort zone. He must really like Andrew to put himself through this. (mad-respect to Zach) In return, I TRULY want to see Andrew come up on stage with Zach and tell 2-3 Zach jokes (and bomb) but totally appreciate Zach's years of experience and level of technique in return. and then (as a 'digestif' , finish it out with Zach telling his best jokes with the perfect musical accompaniment of Andrew on piano/or other instrument) + both appreciating each other's better-then-average talents.
Andrew has been filling my ears since his days with SNZ. Seen him numetous times. Always a pleasure to dip into his bio stream. I barely know zach. Seems like a nice guy....like a lot of artists hes wildly aware of his imperfections and shows it in a beautiful humble way. I can relate.
Exactly what my heart needed today. It's been a heavy time for us all, but you two always brighten up the darkest days. Thank you for the music and the commentary.
Thanks Andrew, thanks Zach, for changing my life and making me feel like this world is meant to be shared, no matter how different our level of talent it is. So inspired. Love you guys
I can understand Zack feeling intimidated by Andrew's musical skill, but he did great, was very charming, and exceptionally funny as always. Talking about mediums of dissent was very interesting too.
Seeing Zach talk out of character (with sincerity).... I've always felt he was a kind, sincere, thoughtful, nice person. So to finally see a real Zach conversation is wonderful!
Zach did great at the end! Inspiring as someone that is learning music late in life and will never be an Andrew Bird but I'd love to jam with really skilled people. It was beautiful. Great job yall!
By far the most ambitious crossover I had seen yet; but also,, it may be my most favorite interaction between two people that I appreciate from different artistic approaches. This is beautiful to see. Wtf. Lmao. Nice
Being able to understand and create music is one of the highest forms of art humans have been blessed with by our Great Creator. Comedy is fun and entertaining, but i can find a funny person literally anywhere (most people have this quality). I cant find someone to play a beautiful melody as Andrew Bird can play it.
Yes. I always admire celebrities who actually become BETTER looking with age. (it is not fair, but...) I imagine fat Zach as drinking too much... and today's Zach as someone who has found peace and happiness in his life with wisdom and experience. I feel like 47 year old Zach is much more comfortable in his skin than 10-20 years ago Zach. He looks and sounds great!
Zach is the guy who loves music too much to ever put himself between it and the creator. He simply cannot be the character on the screen because it all seems impossible. It is indeed impossible that he is in fact sitting here with Andrew Bird within a mix of textures that Andrew put in front of us. All of it is beautiful, incorrect, yet perfect all at once.
This is a beautiful and honest sample of American culture. Two excellent story tellers and the underlying complaints about their overloards. Could be a scene from "Coffee and Cigarettes"
Andrew, I grant you permission to regard yourself as exceptional. You earned it. Where is your divine cultural diversity comes from? Thank you for making and sharing these shows.
Love you both! Can't believe I didn't know about your show, Andrew! Thank you for this. I am excited to watch the rest of what you've put out. Thank you
Que dos grandes artistas! Andrew le dice a Zack cuando se avergüenza y dice no voy a leer los comentarios...solo un puñado de corazones! Eso es lo que cuenta! : )
I am impressed that Zach even knows what a 410 (a very rare/obscure gun) is! The fact that he even mentions it makes me think that he actually has one (a gun that can kill only squirrels or pheasant at 25-30yards max). NOT a widely used gun, with a minimum of rage and damage. (Yup, he is actually from NC countryside.)
Love this AB piece and an official member of "The Wolf Pack" together!! Comedians & Musicians often speak the same language, much like Athletes and Artists=]
I love the show Baskets and always had a feeling it must have been Andrew Bird doing the music, but never checked. So it was nice to find out for sure in this way. Also in terms of comedians stepping out of their routine and deconstructing it...STEWART LEE
Dean Friedman has a song 'Rocking Chair (It's Gonna Be Alright)', which I thought of immediately when Zach mentioned writing a song about an extension chord.
Modest Mouse’s The Lonesome Crowded West album has themes of the corporatization of his small hometown of Issaquah Washington. (The malls are all soon to be ghost towns, well so long, farewell, goodbye). I heard him talk about it in an interview, I’m not artistic enough to pick up on it myself. 🙄
"You're so vain" is by Carly Simon, not Carole King Andrew! Anyway, "Lull" is such a great song. Totally agreed with Zach's favourite. Thanks for sharing this. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Andrew! i love that melody!! i have the lyrics for you:) I'm handing out an idea Take it with my soul if you must If it's real it can fly without me It belongs now to us For good days to come Ideas tells us what we want They make us who we are
chorus : " ideas, ideas, ideas! so many ideas i can't breath in my tears, like tadpoles their swimeth my fears, there are too many craft beers, ideas, ideas, ideas! "
That melody became Sisyphus! That song is the reason I'm watching this. Very interesting series.
I think Mr. Bird looks like an embrace; an embrace made as a man. This was wonderful! I was in the hospital fighting COVID19 AND Pneumonia. I MADE IT, & here I am! Only LOVE to ALL...
Zach’s little shaking hands after he plays piano made me tear up this is so pure and wonderful
You know what they say about small hands right?
Omg zach is so nervous about playing and jamming with Andrew. And Andrew is just so accepting of him and his level. They're both so curious about each other's work and how they create these pieces. It's like, they're both so nervous but they're both so great.

No one whistles like Andrew!

So glad you found out about him. I've been a fan over 10 years. Absolutely amazing artist.
Best thing youtube ever recommended to me.
yes
Holy smokes!!! What a surprising duo! Two artists/entertainers that I enjoy but had never dreamed of seeing together. Love it!
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓!

Imposter syndrome. Just gotta remember your story and what you did to get to that place.
To be Zach Galifianakis accompanying Andrew Bird in the wake of his musical genius. What a dream come true. I'm envious!
Have listened to Andrew for the better part of 10 years. So nice to see the human side of him and also Lull. So amazing. Also, Zach is a genius as always.
Same and agreed
Each and every time I hear Andrew preform u feel like the world stops for just us

Super interesting to hear the bones of Sisyphus before he wrote the lyrics. Such a timeless melody
My heart cannot take it anymore, love ya both!
Why does Andrew always look like he's 15 minutes late for a gate at LAX?
He just kind of has a wild disheveled look about him, but he tampers it with a kind of mellow competences.
lolol
He's interviewing Zach Galifaniakikis. I can't even imagine what the lead up to that during prep for the interview has to be like. It's probably like trying to open a jar with your hand covered in butter, but the jar is a bomb.
clever, guy

vargaso, totally get you. As a “day player” actor I’ve often had to work with total pro’s - bitter sweet, having to come off the bench and step up.

this is very special. seeing this i think "bird should have his own show" then realize this is it. love
29:17 “I could hang on to this, write a great song”... sure did!
Oh yeah, also an “inanimate object” connection to sisyphus: A Rock.
Such a wholesome conversation from two of the best.
The stuff from Bird's great room is so, great.
'..comedians are the new folk singers..' quote of the bit so far, he is spot on.
Exactly what my heart needed today. It's been a heavy time for us all, but you two always brighten up the darkest days. Thank you for the music and the commentary.
One of the best interviews I have heard in a long time.
i love bith of you creative inspirers. thank you. beautiful. hilarious. heartful..
Andrew Bird is just such a pure human. He just loves and embraces life
Thanks Andrew, thanks Zach, for changing my life and making me feel like this world is meant to be shared, no matter how different our level of talent it is. So inspired. Love you guys
I can understand Zack feeling intimidated by Andrew's musical skill, but he did great, was very charming, and exceptionally funny as always. Talking about mediums of dissent was very interesting too.
what a beautiful capture of an experience.
Oh my goodness ❤️
Favorite musician and favorite comedian in one room
Never in a million years would I've thought that these 2 knew each other. This was very, very wholesome :D
Two men I love!
Seeing Andrew and Zach having a conversation like this is just such an amazing thing
Seeing Zach talk out of character (with sincerity).... I've always felt he was a kind, sincere, thoughtful, nice person. So to finally see a real Zach conversation is wonderful!
this is what my soul needed right now
Zach was so nervous and so into that song! ❤

One of my favourite ones. Zack so charming and Andrew so lovely. Great thing to watch, I enjoyed every minute . Thanks!
I can get over how handsome these two look right now, those genuine smiles 😃 too. 👌 lovely chat gentleman 🙏
Props for "Haulin' Oats!" I laughed...
Hearing Sysiphus before it was Sysiphus is a true treasure.
these guys.

Sisyphus before it was born at 29:30. Hang onto your limbs, they’ll become something one day.
Spot on!
Absolutely! Great catch
just picked up on that and was about to comment. Nice!
hes been using the melody to that for a while, i believe it shows up in echolocations river a bunch
primordial version
"I've got my gun in the car..." *Andrew blinks* .....love these two together haha

My favorite Bird song is Zach’s mind blown. And this makes me so damn happy
Amazing that I just saw Sisyphus before it came into being and was named! Zach's Greekness must've rubbed off. lol Φοβερός
Ah that was awesome seeing early Sisyphus wow
That last one is a bit like a gamelan. Cool.
I loved that lull
42:19 "Lull". Just a reminder for myself. It's such a great version.
art imitates life
Perfect!
They are both so beautiful. IU love this!
Love you woke me up!!
are you talking about the end? is that where that violin melody came from?
I was hoping it would be more Zach playing piano. I love his piano playing. He is too modest.
I needed this...I love you both...
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my oh my oh my
This was my first time here. This was aMAZing! Wow. Thank you.
"I have my gun in the car. It's a 410, it's not very powerful. I just have it for the squirrels."

Also, the coffee drink on the bookcase is the best.
can anyone name the documentary Zach is talking about on at 31:30? the serious documentary about a band that made him laugh a lot.
Probably “some kind of monster” the Metallica doc when the whole band is recorded while in therapy
Me too I want to know so bad!
May I have the batik in the background please!! Great listening to real artists doing their stuff. Thanks.
Beauts!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
21:25 Saints Preservus
this is highly underrated

wow.. this is weird. my amazing comedic genious and my amazing musician. talking. flirting.. you guys are weird and great
I saw Andrew Bird 2008 on stage and how can it be that he doesn’t seem one delay older ?
That hand tremor! Been there. Actually, I think I am still there, definitely, if I have to play for someone other than myself XD
WTF this is great
zach being nervous is weirdly endearing
Looking forward to this, the one with Matt berninger was amazing
Fun fact: Matt wrote and performed a song in the movie version of "Between Two Ferns", starring Zach Galifianakis obviously.
Nice
at 32:00 he was talking about Metallica wasn't he?
JL Maragel looked it up, it has to be. So funny.
No, it was Spinal Tap
"You're so vain" is by Carly Simon, not Carole King Andrew! Anyway, "Lull" is such a great song. Totally agreed with Zach's favourite. Thanks for sharing this. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Sometimes when my mind's wandering I imagine if Kirk kobane had sang You're so vain?
Andrew knows... he just didn't want to talk about it on live camera (Zach said Carole King, not Andrew).
Andrew! i love that melody!! i have the lyrics for you:)

I would pay stupid amounts of money and blood to see this live.
Your song at 29 minutes and 30 seconds lyrics go like this Wwhennnn one door opens another closes when one door closes one opens again...
oh Zach I know you'll not read it but I'll say it anyways: this was lovely
