A useful piece of advice I got: periodically scan AH for useful upgrades that are priced just over the vendor cost.
You can upgrade your gear and your grinding speed significantly and pay for the marginal cost of "renting" the item. 10 silver over vendor cost is nothing if it's a good upgrade for a couple levels (and you can even possibly auction lesser gear you would have equipped).

Stressing minimal use of flight paths isn't great advice, honestly. It's good for levels 1 through maybe 15 or so, but after that, quests are sending you all over the world. Your time is valuable; spend the 7 silver for the flight and save yourself a half hour or more of walking. Use that half hour to grind more valuable stuff at your destination.

I remember back in Vanilla, I had mining and herbalism with my rogue. Every other day or so I would park myself in Orgrimmar after I posted my herbs and bars on the AH to advertise that I was opening lock boxes. About 2-3 hours later, I was at +10g (sometimes more) for the day. Great guide!

I remember leveling my first character. I had been doing a good job of not buying anything from the AH. And I was determined not to buy anything, because I was saving as much as I could to get my mount. I was even resisting the urge to upgrade my spells, to get my mount.
But my sword was dreadfully outdated for my zone level. I felt weak. And I was going through a long dry spell with weapon drops.
Finally I broke down and bought a blue sword off the AH.
IT FELT SO GOOD! I FELT POWERFUL AGAIN!!!
. . . and then only one day later a weapon dropped that was an upgrade to my new blue auction house sword, and I felt that sudden buyers remorse. I had wasted that gold for nothing. If I had only waited one more day.
That’s how I learned to stay away from the Auction House while leveling. Unless you’re there to sell stuff yourself.

Vendoring wands earns you so much easy gold even sub level 20. And it allows you to level enchanting and tailoring for end game usefulness. Craft greens with tailoring. Disenchant them, craft highest wand you can, vendor/ AH said Wands. Extremely easy and lucrative
Also, skinning and herbalism is amazingly lucrative as well since skins are guaranteed and dont rely on random nodes and vendor for decent amount that adds up

Allow me to officially say that Defcamp/Melderon along with your Deftalk is my favorite podcast for our mutual beloved WoW Classic (with Tipsout/Esfand/Nixxiom on a close 2nd). They way you talk and explain things is such a joy to listen to. Hyped as I am, did not play on any private server after all I understand that some are going half nuts for it but can be hard to listen to for hours. Maybe it's becuase of my age that somewhat fit into "your league" as well but anyway, great content and can't wait for next one.
Even some oldschool WoW nerd since open beta learned a new thing from this video or I am getting "old" and forgot =)
Keep up the good work and send my kind regards to your brother. I subscribed to your channel and as I've said before, thinking on sponsoring you. Becuase you don't ask (or beg/expect as some do) for it but since I want to. Don't worry on my end I have a fulltime work.
Have a good one! Yours respectfully /vXCozmoz

easiest way to get a mount at lvl 40 if you are having problems is take skinning and grind a few levels at like 36-40 and you will have plenty of gold while leveling fast too, may be a bit boring but atleast its an easy way while watching like a series on netflix or something on a second monitor. Probably the best place to farm is at swamp of sorrows, kill all mobs but concentrate on the tigers, 1 kill is like 5-12 silver (usually about 10 silver). You can sell the leather on ah too but i'd just recommend to vendor everything and maybe sell like the good greens on ah.

    • @slb159
      @slb159 6 років тому +3

Leather usually sold pretty well on my server. I used to farm the gorillas in the field in STV right outside booty bay for thick/heavy leather. The pigs and basilisks in the blasted lands were good for rugged leather as well...if they are selling well and it is worth your time of course. Just watch out for that big dragon flying around the blasted lands :)

    • @timsummers7526
      @timsummers7526 5 років тому

I usually vendor all leather until I am acquiring Thick Leather. Hides will sell, but leather itself is usually flooding the market until you get to thick leather.. so it's more lucrative to forego the AH fees and vendor all the low level leathers

Just go around lvl 30+ to Badlands...set your hs to Kargath and move to the earth elementals, farm them untill you have your bags full, you can sell some of the loot in AH for bs plus all the green you will get, hs when bags are full and sell the grey and the stones, then move back again and repeat, you will gain lvls and gold...untill you reach 37-40 you have the gold for mount.

Came back to this video in frustration. I watched this video several times many months ago and thought - heck, having enough gold at lvl 40 won't be an issue. I'm now a level 22 priest in Classic. I haven't purchased a single item - no water, no food, no AH nothing (except quest items). I've sold bags, wands and leathers. I made all my bags myself, or got them from quests. The only thing I have spent money on is spells, learning professions (cooking, fishing, tailoring, skinning) and thread. Still I find myself at 67 silver after learning all of the ESSENTIAL skills at level 22. I really hope quest rewards will amp up their rewards, otherwise I'm screwed at 40.

Yeah here's a story, I grinded Tyrs Hand and Heartglen, breaking my teath&gear on those elite mobs. After about a month I got my mount, yeey! But then I had a bright idea of maybe wanting to obtain a different racial mount, was playing an Orc Fem, but wanted an undead horse so of I went, farming runecloth for reputation! And gold while I was at it. Only to have the patch hit 3 days after I obtained that mount that made riding skill universal so you didn't have to buy different racial riding skill for varying mounts.. there went 600g down the drain. I'll never forget that.

Screw this guide. You want mounts? Here's how:
Herbalism and alch. Extra speed? Go druid, shaman, or hunter.
    Download gatherer.
Don't shift click a node. Click it, if no level, move your toon, click it again, you get five tries before it despawns. This will ensure you are able to loot any node you come to.
Level normally but go to westfall and darkshire as ally, and silverpine and hillsbrad as horde.
Loot every mageroyal and briarthorn you can find. Save all the swiftthistle if you are on a new server until you are 35+, or post it immediately as market offers highest prices if not.
Level to 35. Head to alterac mountain. Grind the ogres NE of the elite area for cloth and the nodes for wild steelbloom, goldthorn, and wintersbite. You can head toward dalaran if fadeleaf is selling to rogues. All are needed for leveling alch and people are braindead about these nodes so they pay a lot. 10g/stack is not uncommon on a leveled server. As much as three on a brand new one.
After you hit 60, do circles around winterspring, blasted lands, eastern plaguelands, and felwood for herbs.
Run lbrs for the greater fire protection potion recipe and the others for the flask recipes.
Farm the fire elementals in arathi, silithus, and felwood for elemental fire and the burning charms (arathi) to sell to low level warriors. Farm elemental earth and stockpile it until AQ drops. Make tons of greater nature protection and frost protection portions.
You will always be rich now. Yw.

One option that may or may not work in classic is dust farming. Some green items, especially ones commonly crafted by players, barely sell for vendor cost on the AH. Since AH charges a posting fee, anything that doesn't sell or that sells near vendor cost actually loses you money. However, as far as I remember, the dust and essences from disenchanted gear did not have a posting fee and you could just keep putting it up until someone bought it. In many cases the dust made more money than the items would have.

The addons you mentioned on slide #6 that you couldn't remember are probably Auctioneer and Gatherer. They were around in 2006 when I started playing and there are still versions around that work on 1.12 private servers, they will probably still work in WoW Classic. They used to download from www.auctioneeraddon.com and www.gathereraddon.com. Auctioneer lets you scan the AH and collect price and sales data, so if you do it daily for a week or so you can get a pretty accurate read on what an item actually sells for and what demand is. Gatherer stores the location of resource nodes you have gathered and projects them on your minimap, making it easier to plan farming routes.

What I remember from classic is that cloth sold in stacks yielded way more money than bandages. Those rarely even sold. Cloth is not only bought by people with first aid.
Tailors, leatherworkers, engineers all need cloth too. Depending on the economy, cloth sold in stacks sells usually faster and for more than bandages. Talking about the AH here obviously.

I'm kind of curious what other people think about this. So I think engineering is going to be the most popular profession in classic by far. Meaning mining will also be extremely popular. I was originally leaning towards going skin/mine. But I'm wondering if the ah will be flooded by ore and other mining reagents. Do you think it would be better to choose herbalism over mining to avoid falling into an oversaturated market?

the 10s for weapon skill, even if you buy them all, isn't going to cost you more than 1g. At that point, you're just getting in your own way to save a few pennies. Not the best use of your time. Instead, consider how fast you can and will make 1g at level 40.
1g is never going to make or break your ability to buy a mount. Especially for something as impactful as being able to use your weapon upgrades on demand.

How do you think professions will differ on a fresh server compared to a long lasting server? I know herbalism does really well on current private servers but at the start of a server there will be very little gold in the economy so you will not be able to sell materials for a high price.

    • @auburnfire
      @auburnfire 5 років тому

In my, admittedly ancient, experience if you are even remotely competitive in leveling on a new server then you should expect to vendor all gathered mats as there is very little gold in the population and you are gathering stuff ahead of the level curve of people who might want it if their skill level was high enough to use it.
There are professions that can take advantage of rock bottom prices for gathered mats, for example engineers have several recipes that vendor for a profit if the mats are cheap. However camping the AH will really slow down your leveling so I'm not sure that it's a good use of time.
Imo this video was tailored towards an existing, developed, server and isn't too useful for a brand new server. It doesn't seem to consider the opportunity cost of gathering trash mats to vendor compared to leveling faster and using that extra time to grind wealth more rapidly at a higher level.

I have gathered pretty nicely now and the more money comes the more I level (Coz higher level mobs and quests etc...) I also take advantage of auction house like selling wool is pretty good. Also really good sellers I have gotten in lower levels is those random blueprints. I have gotten like at least over gold from them.
It might look at first that this is insane but once you get your wanted professions like I did skinning and herbalism you get from those that extra gold which is good. Others like fishing which is pretty nice in vanilla are good. I like to think that if you going alt that you could level other professions for that dude so you have more characters then and all have different professions (This is especially later pretty good situation). Just trade with other dude and back and forth etc for exaple you want to enchant something then you would post it to that account you have enchantment profession.
And overall just don't spend on stupid stuff if you don't need it should be good to go.
I have one dude sitting at level 19 now and I have around 6 gold and it will grow exponentially trust me.
Btw when it comes to bags (at least in my experience) I got a pretty good amount them from drops and I have rarely had a situation where I wouldn't have space. So going to ah once you have rolled bunch of quests will do fine. So even buying bags I don't see value in that as they are surprisingly often dropping and they do cost a big amount.
    Good guide though.

And, I have to ask--are you SURE about the enchanting? In BC, you had to have a certain lvl of skill to be able to DE items with various lvling. So, you had to level Enchanting from lvl 1 to like, 20 in order to DE items for lvl 20-25 (rough estimate). It was frustrating as hell, thus why I remember it.

If I had a worry, it is that the info on professions won't hold the weight in Classic that did would have had in vanilla. Only a small minority of people knew what they were doing back then. You had shamans paying out the ass for arcanite so they could make that axe. Now? Not so stupid. Going into "Classic, EVERYBODY is thinking herbing and mining.

If I'm ever a long way off at like 35 I'll spend my time till 40 grinding elemental earth in the badlands doesn't take long to get 100g providing your server doesn't have 60's farming them all the time.

@-Genes- well there's plenty of mobs around level 37 and loads of spawns around the zone, will be camped if you are on a private server likely yes, I'm guessing in classic with correct population should be fine.

I watch all these gold making/farming videos hoping they dont expose my spot. Over time I have updated my farming to something that fits my playstyle so that I can level up while farming and making 200+ gold by the time your 40. So one of my earlier gold making things was to have a mage and level tailoring. I would sit at cross roads and sell bags with free water and food. I would deliver the goods myself for those who werent at the xroads. You can make decent gold doing that but its not amazing and it takes downtime.
Another tip: Vendor greys, keep white items because more than likely they are used for something and will sell on the AH.

I really doubt they would leave that "alt enchanter" part working. That actually contest enchanters with high skill to offer their diss service.

Mineing/herbalism and then mail that stuff to an alchemist/engineer, that's what I do for cash and pvp. You are already running around mineing so why not profession dance switching find minerals with find plants. Lots of plants spawn in decent proximity to mineral nodes. Also the earlier you get upgraded bags the faster those bags pay for themself in extraspace. If you wait till 60 to go from 6 slots to max level bags you just missed tons of extra gold in trash items or even gatherables that could have been used to make cash.

A lot of the advice here is very good common sense that I guess new players don't know about, but the biggest money maker besides not wasting it on dumb shit, is to know how to play the AH, that will make you the most money than anything else, aaand Fishing, I've made tons of money fishing, I never had to skip on buying spells or my mount at 40 on vanilla servers, just fish a little in tanaris before you log out and sell other shit you get/craft while you play.

Farmer Johnston will give you gold if you show him your weiner. You can find him just South of Goldshire. Hunters can make good coin by letting people grind on their pets. You can charge double if the pet has fur. Only downside is you have to spend time in dark alleys.
