Bose Companion 2 III sounds richer and has greater clarity while Soundlink Mini II sounds flatter. Bit given its smaller form factor, the Mini is also quite good in overall sound quality.
One of the most interesting comparisons! There is quite a different 'voicing'. The Companion is perhaps more impressive to most people.. and I will bet Bose did the odd focus group to get a feel for what sounds 'impressive' to most buyers. The Soundlink Mini is more of the ilk of a near-field monitor; it has less of a hump from 60Hz-95Hz, and the bass test seems to show more of a linear bass extension to the same point (60Hz) where they both call it quits. Whereas the Companions fill in all the 'spare space' around vocals and instruments with just a touch of boom, the Mini reveals the vocals more purely and more intimately, uncrowded by 'oomph' EQ that is at the limit of the Companions' drivers ability to keep under control. That said, both will have their fans. I would go for the Soundlink Mini and its astonishingly intimate vocals.
Digital Stereopony, i have some question: 1. What is audio interface do you use so it can give the best sound output? 2. Which brand speakers cable and series are commonly used for testing? (example: Mogami 2549 + neutrik). 3. Which of these Plugs are used? xlr to TRS, TRS to TRS, or xlr to rca? 4. The plug using Neutrik, switchcraft, or amphenol? Thanks, please your answer.. ^_^
i had some cheap 30 buck creative speakers the last 5 years lol they worked, but started making a electrical noise 2 years ago when they have no soudn... im thinking about getting new speakers... i first wanted to get me a jbl pulse 3, then i wanted to get a soundlink mini 2 and i think now im going with the bose companion 2 series ii.... i have a silver case they match perfect and i can get them for 20 bucks used in brandnew condition...
Hey, can you get you hands on Klipsch ProMedia 2.1? It would be nice to hear how it compares to most bookshelf speakers. ProMedia 2.1 is one of the most recommended set of speakers on the internet.
Seems like you hav em both, or know well about both: I have a SoundLink Mini (Gen 1) now and want to get a dedicated PC Speaker. I want it to be at least as good as the SoundLink Mini which sounds very good (to me at least) so will the Companion 2 disappoint me?

Always like that you use heart afire as a test song, I know it very well and its great to compare against for me ^^

If you use 3.5mm input for mini 2, the sound quality will also be improved. Source does matter!

Companion is horrible bad. Soundlink a bit better. Both sound distinctly distorted and discolored. Very poor for the price.
