I don't know what the big deal is, the car was aware there was someone standing beside it, because it waited until they left before it moved on. Maybe it even recognized it as a policeman; hence why it then pulled over where it was safe to do so.
More likely, it signalled its control centre that someone had touched it, and a controller then looked at the cameras, saw a police car, and instructed it to pull over.

It should have it's lights on. It's dangerous for people walking across the road. They would not see the car until it's too late. Would the car pick up the person on it's scanners in time to stop?
Yes, the car would see the person, better than a human, in fact.
It actually sense it, all of it's surrounding ahead and behind 60 to 150 meters depends on the occlusion. So it takes actions ahead of time depends on how the surrounding move.

I imagine it was more the distinction between pulling over for a passing cop car, vs getting pulled over itself. The second one was triggered after it already stopped so it seemed like it left the scene
(Hence it’s hazard lights weren’t on at first but we’re on afterwards)

That might be plausible if it was not for the Blue and Red lights already flashing behind the car as it was already stopped . Not sensing the emergency vehicle .
Under California law if your stopped remain stopped , if your in motion pull to the right and stop . Just a program Glitch demonstrating the technology is not where it should be to be reliable. Even this is minor , can you 100% say it won’t happen when it’s life or death .
@@992turbos8 while it does seem that it should have sensed the vehicle in the first place, it’s definitely still better than a large portion of human drivers. After all programs don’t get drunk at a bar.
Also when pointing out “100% it will not happen” that is a artificial bar. All it needs to do is be better than a human driver, at which point I may ask, how many times do human drivers drive away from traffic stops?

3. Customer enters Driverless cab...enters destination...pays via credit card...cab drives away remotely controlled from a person in a VR facility.

Humans make mistakes. Humans can make machines that don't make mistakes. This is the first iteration of a technology that will evolve to eventually make human drivers the most dangerous ones on the road. It will take time. These are baby steps. The vision is there with efforts to make it a reality.
