I live in a jungle in Costa Rica with several scarlet Makaws . They are incredible. They eat the dirt out of my potted plants , swoop down beside me and eat it. So beautiful ❤️ they are the result of a repopulation effort and are fabulous neighbors. I have been here for 20 years, they know me. I don’t feed them but they come down to visit often.
@01:35 -- Why is there a *floating sheath of dirt and roots* hovering over that mound of clay? I got the impression that many years of macaws pecking at a small patch of exposed clay has excavated a previously solid structure. For certain, soil does not accumulate in an overhanging ledge like that!

Really cool project. Getting one’s hands dirty and being up close and personal in the field with a studies subject must be very rewarding. ~ I wonder if the clay might have a beneficial effect for the birds digestive system, as well as providing sodium and other minerals.

Maybe mineral mounds could be created in places of the Amazon that lacks them making it easier for all those birds besides Macaques to get those minerals and salts. I doubt it would be so hard to replicate
Hey phil i have a question for you i know that you're an insect expert but maybe you know something about it Last times i rode my sup i saw some organisms in freshwater lakes. They looked like little jellyfish and also moved like jellyfish they were about 5cm big. Maybe you know what it is🏞🗺
I havent seen one Scarlett macaw. They are all hybrids scarlett x greenwing to make ruby macaw. Only spotted ruby blue and gold and one or 2 greenwings
