23-year-old Brazilian footballer Vinicius Junior broke down at a press conference in the run up to the Spain versus Brazil friendly taking place tonight. Vinicius could not hold back the tears as he described the impact that racism has had on his time playing for Real Madrid. Vinicius has been subjected to racist abuse by football fans. One of the worst incidents took place last May, in a match against Valencia. The incident prompted world footballing bodies to take action against the pervasive racism in football, but they are yet to effectively deter racist hate speech. Vinicius says that the football governing bodies like FIFA and UEFA need to do more.

As a Northeastern Indian🇮🇳with Asian facial appearance i can understand his feelings. During my college days in Uttar Pradesh i faced lots of Racism & Discrimination, from hostel to Lecture Hall the racial abuse was enormous 😢. Till now it pains me alot thinking about those dark days 😰. Sometimes i feel like why i am born in India ..

I have loved football all my life and stopped two years ago because I can no longer support a sport that will not deal with this issue, go to a match if you are not white: you shall feel danger, loneliness and threatened , hearing the chants of hate all throughout the game, how these young players put up with it I do not know!

Racism thrives in ignorance- on the side of the perpetrator and the victim. Vinicius should learn why he excels at what he does and understand why it invites such hate. The international bodies won't do anything to root racism out. If it is racism then targets should learn the roots of their race and that will help them rise above the hate. If someone can make you cry or angry they are your master. Crying during interviews doesn't solve a thing.
