As a non speaker its insane to me how minute the details are of chinese and how easily chinese people can tell those small tonal differences mean entirely different concepts. Equally as funny when they cant comprehend that we dont hear the differences and get all shocked about us botching the words lol
In Mandarin Chinese. The tone you use to say a particular word will literally change the meaning. Different tones can often mean it's a totally different word. my husband is Chinese and I'm learning slowly. Hao ma is something that can be used to ask "is that ok?" but if you emphazise the ma (haoMa) it can mean phone number. That might not be entirely accurate but that's just what I've found in my learning journey
For those who don’t know mandarin, si means death. So Giselle saying e-si-le means “I’m hungry to death!” which is actually a correct expression, just way too informal for idols to say on broadcast haha
For some reason I heard either "ten" "four" or "death" and had to replay it several times. This is what happens when you have a complicated tonal language (not to mention one of the hardest languages) as a second language
"yong gan gou gou bu pa kun nan" is actually the modification of a line from the chinese-dubbed version of paw patrol! in the original english version, it corresponds to "no job is too big, no pup is too small".
ahhh you are finally back. Once again such a funny video. There were lots of moments I didnt know about since we still dont have eng subs for the huya lives. Thank you for this video! we missed you :3
Ningning teaching the members how to speak Chinese is like watching Lele correct NCT members with their Chinese! hahaha so funny, Uri Lele is savage though, scary! hahaha. Ningning is so cute!
I sware if ningning is teaching you Chinese you will learn how to say a lot of nonsense phrases and funny phrases cause that how she acts love her personality lol
Koreans just can't fathom how big China is. AFAIK Coconut chicken is a southern Chinese dish (most famously from Hainan). Ningning herself is from the Northeast province of Heilongjiang. The style of cooking is pretty much as different as Italian and French.
try getting someone from shanghai to taste a few bits of meat from a sichuan hotpot and you get a multitude of hilarious faces as the spices rip right through them lol My sichuan Uncle is fireproof. My shanghai friend goes up in flames faster than flash paper.
@@harrymu148 as a person who grew up in shanghai, this is SO true. my dad is from Chongqing where they basically eat red pepper for midday snacks, and he could eat multiple hotpots without flinching once. Give me one drop of chili sauce and I'd run around the room coughing my throat out.
When I watch wayV, they make (M)Chinese seem fun and learnable, when I watch Ningning, it all of a sudden becomes an incomprehensible art that she gracefully expresses through her harmonious voice😂 I’m currently trying to teach myself (M)Chinese at home but I know I’ll never sound half as beautiful as Ning does when she speaks💗💗💗Chinese is truly incredible, that’s why I’m learning it.
i find it so amazing how all the members can casually speak phrases in english, japanese, chinese, and korean ofc and manage to understand each other. my bilingual ass could never
this is so cute!! but i feel like they're always thinking twice before saying something, terrified of letting even the slightest bit of controversy slip away
Haha, writing in Chinese is an entirely different beast altogether. My family uses traditional Chinese (each character typically has anywhere between 1 to 16 strokes if not more) so imagine learning how to write more than 5-10k different characters MINIMUM.
I am from a Cantonese family and Chinese in general just never learned until 3-4 years ago always naturally understood Cantonese. I thought it’d be hard to learn Mandarin but now I don’t think it’s that hard. I’ve been practicing Mandarin on Duolingo and Cantonese on Drop, entertainment been watching a lot of mainland shows and dramas that I say things to myself in Mandarin sometimes. I want to go back and watch some tvb(especially the golden age of tvb) but so addicted to mainland ones
Giselle gives me rose vibe just love her so much she such a free person that you will feel comfortable with. Hope she gets lot's of love she deserves 💗
i love how somehow in every kpop group native/fluent english speakers are like encouraging with the other members who are trying to speak english and native/fluent chinese speakers are just cackling every time someone makes a mistake
It's hilarious how the other 3 members try their best but with Chinese if you say a word slightly wrong the intonation changes it into a whole other word lmao and NingNing has to struggle with their mistakes 😂💕
you know theyre very eager to learn when they keep copying everything ningning said and keep asking what the words mean right away. and just keep trying until they said it right. i would give up at the third tries 🤣
I feel them tho, I just repeat the words like how they have said it but they keep telling me not like that and i was like what do I keep doing wrong? I was just copying how you said it 😂😂
Hahhah even though they’re saying the wrong things, their pronunciation is really really good! Like once they start associating the correct tones and sounds with their meanings, they’ll actually sound like natives!!
The funny part is that ning ning could say practically anything and the members would immediately repeat after her....
many a foreign idol knows this and use this intentionally to mess with their members x"D
NingNing's voice became 2 octaves higher in Chinese 😆
Yea people might have pitch change when they switch languages
Just imagine how fierce it will be if Ningning and Chenle teach all aespa and NCT members mandarin🤣🤣.
I'd pay to see that and Chenle and Ningning will mostly bicker than teach 😂
And they're gonna give up faster cuz of Chenle's obsession w perfect pronunciation 😂😂

English has tones too, they change the semantic meaning of words rather than the definition.
I love Winter's chinese pronunciation and NingNing clowning them when they asked her what is she saying 😭
For those who don’t know mandarin, si means death. So Giselle saying e-si-le means “I’m hungry to death!” which is actually a correct expression, just way too informal for idols to say on broadcast haha
it also can be interpreted as "i'm starving"
giselle also kind of misheard it as e-le-si
i think it was more about the order of what what she said- she said “si” after “le”, which just doesnt really make sense lol

1:41 nings proud mom face when winter said watermelon in chinese
Learning the Chinese tones is really tough plus there's a lot of characters in their language 😭
A lot is a literal understatement. Try maybe 50,000 characters give or take lol
