It's not just a case of lower levels on the Focusrite as even that on the "quarter to" setting on INPUT will still distort. For close mike screaming I have to use (and you will too, probably!) an inline -10dB XLR attenuator. This is between the microphone and the input cable of the Focusrite! A quality attenuator (mine from Canford audio) will still allow the +48v to be transmitted to the mike.
