Lol... I love Mitch’s smile at the end... “Here... take that!”. There is nothing better than to watch pros doing something they really love. It’s electric. Great reaction. Thank you. 🤗
this was the Mitch and Avi show. Kevin was there just out of camera range, yes you needed to see it live. Avi blew the speakers. There is another part of this concert Telephone by Lady Gaga and you can hear how distorted the spears are
Yeah that performance of Telephone in this concert gives you a real good example of how Mitch sounded when they audition for The Sing-Off with that song. He's always had his part in this song nailed down tight. But during this concert he was acting so care-free and was thoroughly enjoying himself! Had us wondering what they put in his Kool-Aid. But it was obvious when all you could hear was Mitch and nobody else except rumbling and muffled words that the speakers very much blown. Courtesy of Avi Kaplan! 💗
@@mecfstraveler Yeah, when I first saw this I thought it was just a bad recording, but after learning more about Pentatonix, I realized that the phone just can't properly capture Avi's voice, so it sounds distorted. This is an amazing performance!
@@mecfstraveler From what I've heard from other comments on other reactions is that right before this song was Kevin's cello solo. The rest of the group was backstage, Mitch was jetlagged, and chugged 2 Red Bulls before coming back on stage. They apparently kicked in during this song.
Hahahahahaha i laughed before you even started talking cause i knew this video was a response to the hundreds of people bashing you for not doing this one!! Hahah great reaction! As always.
400 requests in comments on a reaction for a DIFFERENT version... must've been uh.... 😒 yeah.. 😁 We love you tho! 😂 I promise! We just wanted to share a historical moment in Pentatonix history with you because it was so exciting and the fan actually captured it! See, each member has a song that is theirs where they get to shine in every concert during a tour. "Aha" was Mitch's song for quite a while and he always sang it like the video, hunting and angelic. He had never performed it like this before! Never had Mitch been belting the high notes on this song and never had he been theatrical! That boy got on the floor! Oh my goodness we were dying then we saw this! Fans that had reaction channels were irritated that we kept requesting they watch this. they were like "yeah, yeah".. it was old hat. people had seen this performed live a million times and they just kept putting it off. So, it was REALLY funny to watch a long time fan, familiar with how this song had been performed for years, react to Mitch hitting the floor let alone belting the high notes! One fan acted almost irritated. she said "why would you guys do that to me? you know I have a heart thing!" And I actually felt bad... the girl was actually clutching her chest and was not smiling at us. After a moment she calmed down and was able to discuss how Epic this development was . because of the significance of what happened here, I'm glad the fan knew this was going to be a mitch song and decided to focus on him. This is when Mitch broke onto the scene in the group . he always had his higher range that was like an angel but he started performing and started changing from the shy retiring young man to the guy who just owned the stage when it was his turn. And he started dressing in high fashion clothing and treating the catwalk like it was his opportunity to get his groove on! Mitch began working the catwalk during this time! I think it was in this time frame?. He dyed his hair purple and then blond? And oh my gosh Mitch with blond hair was crazy Mitch on tour on that catwalk! The fans were eating it up and I wish I could have seen them on that tour cuz it was right before things started seeming like something was wrong with Avi. This was a really good tour and a good year because their original self-titled album was recorded that year which debuted at number one on the billboard top 200 and knocked out Demi Lovato who's new album debuted on the same day. And the group was so freaking excited they were like a whole bunch of little kids just jumping for joy coming out of a store running down the sidewalk it was such a cute picture! Then their holiday album went platinum in Canada I believe and gold in America or vice versa. and they won their Grammy year for Daft Punk.. or "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". I am basing all of this on Mitch's haircut FYI! I have an imaginary Pentatonix timeline in my head but it doesn't have dates on it instead there are mental images of Mitch with a particular haircut / color or facial hair style. I don't think "what year was that?". I think "Which MITCH was that?" 🤔🎉 it's always a good time with Mr. Mitch! I wouldn't change him for the world! Or any of them for that matter! Thank you so much for reacting to both videos! the time and effort invested in doing all of this is not lost on us and I know everybody appreciates it as much as I do!
Look for their Popspring performance from 2016, its 4 songs live, 3 of them are originals and one is their evolution of Michael Jackson. The song Water was written by Kirsty and she sings lead.
This song is basically the Avi and Mitch show lol. Avi’s over there trying to break the speakers with his bass and Mitch is doing what Mitch does best. The person recording it clearly is a Mitch fan. Kevin has left the stage in the beginning to put his cello away. They all shift over before the start of Aha so Kevin can come back on stage. You can hear him beatboxing in the background.
It’s great that you reacted to this as well as the official video. Mitch was just incredible that night and Avi wow. Kevin was just putting his cello Beyoncé away as he played his cello in the performance before this one he came back on as Avi started his part at the beginning
I love it. There are several videos on line of them singing it. My favorite is NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly - December 31, 2016. Link: ua-cam.com/video/m_yPtnQEex4/v-deo.html
You can compare the studio version of their Hallelujah cover to one from their live Christmas special. It’s neatly identical. I haven’t seen them live but if we get thru this pandemic I hope they tour again so I can witness them live in person. Thanks for your reaction. ☮️💟
I'm really glad u watched the music video and this one. Not gonna lie, the main appeal of this video for me is the opera in the beginning and the transition Avi and Mitch do right before they jump into Aha. Ur reactions are always a joy!
Mitch was on fire that performance, Thanks for the reaction!! Lyle of Patrol Gaming reactions stated it perfectly " You don't listen to Avi's voice ~~ you experience it!" Please react to Avi Kaplan's Change on the Rise!
Kevin's just put Beyonce away....you'll see Scott move closer to Mitch as he comes back on stage...the person who shot the vid was pretty much Mitch centric which is fine since he features most on this one ...and as we all are..so we hear KO but not see him. There is another live version where you can see them all : ua-cam.com/video/F0M3xZFReWE/v-deo.html
"Might not have suggested it" LOL - yes we would have! We just like to make sure that a reactor has done enough PTX songs to know about Avi's and Mitch's skills, just so that we can see their jaws drop because both of them totally blow their other stuff clear out of the water in this one.
Kevin is there. There is an Elle Song Association with PTX where Kevin goes through his part in this song. You can get a little of it during Mitch’s first high note.
So here's the story as I've heard it. The previous song was a Kevin cello solo, so as the group was going into the intro piece, he was still backstage putting the cello away. During his cello solo, Mitch, who was suffering from jet lag, was backstage downing two straight cans of Red Bull. The group came back on stage and Avi shredded the sound system on the last note of the intro piece, Kevin returned (but never made it on camera), then Mitch's Red Bulls kicked in...and...we now have the show that is considered by Pentaholics as the best live performance of their career! Mitch goes completely insane and Avi shreds what little was left of the theater sound system!!
Thanks for this! I do think you did them in the right order -- that way you can appreciate this as an expansion of the official video. The classical introduction is the Bruckner motet "Christus factus est," which was their standard intro to "Aha!" Their "Aha!" arrangement has a crazy high degree of musical difficulty for all parts, parts hopping around or popping in after silence or landing quickly off the beat. It just shows the ultra-high level of musicianship all members of PTX have. I wonder if you could hand their score to another a cappella group and expect such accurate performance.
yay! you did it! this is probably one of the most highly requested videos for reactors to do. (espically self proclaimed Mitch fans.) And to think this was on a fan camera. for a live performance with good sound that focuses on all of them, usually would suggest the 2016 popspring performance. however there are certian songs on there they did that you havent reacted to. ( cant sleep love, and two of their originals: cracked and water). So maybe later in your ptx journey :) thank you so much for reacting to this!
You are so cool for doing another reaction for "Aha". I love the official and live versions PTX did for the song. I just realized that you have not yet reacted to the PTX songs which are the favorites of most PTX fans. Namely: Imagine, Sound of Silence and Hallelujah. There are many more, of course. I just thought that you may like those.
When Avi sings that incredible low bass note he blew his speaker...lol....so it sounded a little distorted after that......Mitch was having so much fun that night lol
Yes. he was right there next to Scott on stage. If you noticed - there was a big space in the middle of the stage where Kevin sat with the cello for the prior song. When Avi starts his deep solo, you see Mitch turn and walk to the middle of the stage, Scott follows him, and Kevin stands where Scott was. Of course, you can hear Kevin's insane beats and rattles and whooshes, but it's too bad the person taking the video never showed the whole stage once Aha! started. We never even get to see Kevin's elbow!
I've ALWAYS wondered about Kevin in this video, but yesterday I found some other live versions of this with Kevin and the others. All are good but THIS one is AMAZING 👍
(Comment taken from someone else as i cant explain it this well lol) This is the story behind what you're watching: The previous song featured Kevin's cello, and he was backstage putting the cello away because he was not needed for the choral opening (Christus Factus Est) of Aha. He returned to the stage (not seen on camera) just as Avi hit that low note and started doing the beatboxing. Avi's note, by the way, caused damage to the Star Vista sound system. It was Avi's idea to open "Aha!" with "Christus Factus Est", a very old piece he sang in the award-winning college choir he was in. The segue into "Aha!" works well. I've seen performances where they just launched right into "Aha!" and newer ones with Matt where they open with "Greensleeves", and to my ear, that segue just doesn't work at all.
Hey bud, since you seem to like watching a cappela now, maybe try some citizen queen, its an all girl a cappela group founded by scott from ptx and a few others, cheers
Seconded. And if you do watch a Citizen Queen video, be sure to watch through to the very end: Unlike PTX videos, there are full end credits for director, arranger, and each of the performers (with their face alongside, to help learn their names quickly). Evolution of Girl Groups is a good one to start them with.
This wasn't an official live stream or anything like it. This was filmed by an audience member, using a cell phone. At the beginning of the video, when they showed the whole stage, Kevin was off-stage, putting his cello away because he'd played it in their previous number. Then the camera is focused on Avi, who proceeds to blow the first speaker with his low notes. While this is going on, Mitch and Scott are moving closer to Kirstie, to make room for Kevin, who has returned, but the fan with the cell phone wasn't interested in that fact and doesn't show him. Then Mitch gets going, and the camera pretty much remains on him until the end of the song. But while Mitch is going full-out Mitch-slap on the entire audience, Avi is still there, singing his part, and blowing more speakers.
As others have commented, Kevin was just putting away his cello but later on joined onstage. I agree with others to do Popspring 2016 performance - somewhat long (14 mins or so) but has 4 songs: 3 PTX original and 1 Evolution. As far as I know, it's the only version from that concert where aitch totally goes off (thank you caffeine/red bull) but there is footage from other concerts of them performing the song and it's interesting how it's little less intense (and ones I saw focused less tightly on Mitch. Plus the sound system was less destroyed by Avi's intense bass notes than here). Sadly, I don't think I have a link to share as they were part of a full concert.

No, he is not. In the beginning Kevin was putting Beyoncè away (Beyoncè is the name of his cello lol😊) since during the opera style song he wasn't needed. If you could see Mitch and Scott walk towards Kirstie, they were making room at the end for Kevin to come back up on stage. Scott was doing his normal baritone background for Mitch cause this is a Mitch song all the way.
For a version where you can see all 5 of them and hear Avi's lowest notes more clearly, I like this one from Berlin in 2015. It's another fan-cam video and starts out unfocused, but gets better. ua-cam.com/video/diSK7S9bs-Y/v-deo.html
avi helped them learn this opera part giving kevin time to put away his cello. now isn't avi wonderful..lol , he can go from warm melted honey to a deep whiskey soaked bass..sigh....kevin was beside scott
I too think his voice is like creamy butter. This is so much better when you watch the full concert.

That is the most accurate description of Avi's voice I have ever heard.
