Now there's a lawsuit waiting to happen!.. that's something I would expect in a third world country.

Amtrak train to Montreal running along Lake Champlain is quite similar to this. They can only go about 10 miles an hour through a really bad stretch! If you're sitting on the riverside, it looks like you may fall in! Real interesting ride!

Are they still running the Train through here? This is nuts with the base piles showing like that, it's a disaster waiting to happen!

They can see track elevation settling and alignment deviation that will indicate if there is anything to be worried about. The side slope can be allowed to erode to within about two feet of the rail but likely the embankment supporting the track hasn't been compromised at all. The stuff that fell is just a sheer failure of a face that was already too steep but far enough out to be considered superficial.

And that hard-hat guy standing next to the tracks .. what's he supposed to do if the earth starts to move? Hold the hill back with his bare hands?

I'm from San Diego. They usually worry about this type of public danger. But who knows because this is in plain view and also on u-tube. 😢

Possible disaster in plain view and you still get a 'who would have guessed'. Narrator says it well.

The vibration of the train could easily destabilize the remaining embankment and cause another catastrophic failure, this time with the train going down.

That's what the concrete piers are for. That said, the expense of continually adding reinforcements like those piers has led to plans for a tunnel under the town.
