April 2024 AMA 3/5 Iain Banks and Consider Phlebas

In this month's AMA, each question will get its own video. Today, we move on to this patron's question about Iain Banks' Consider Phlebas, the first in a series of Science Fiction novels from the Culture series. In this book, we find the strange paradox of a future in which space-travelling technologies are powerful enough to traverse trillions of kilometres while the characters themselves tend to have a different deep meme than the arrow of progress. Instead, the "changer" is an embodiment of the salvage meme itself, as a type of person invented in a war so far back in the past that no one can remember what its original use was but which can be repurposed for different goals today.
