The problem I have with the way these sorts of things are prevented is that there is a subtle (or occasionally not so subtle) implication that these cities are a bad thing, that they are a net loss (and that they should not be there). People complain about 80% of humans living in urban environments; I see that as a benchmark, a sign of humanity's progress as a civilization. Not something to be resisted or stopped, but encouraged.
Let's start painting every roof white for reflective purposes and also need to start rethinking materials for paving roads to inshore cooler temperatures or learn how to harness the heat from the roads and convert to energy .
@Dragonkrux "Non-toxic" doesn't mean a product has no environmental impact. Literally every physical substance we own, possess, or utilize has an environmental aspect. Do you know what it takes to make high quality outdoor non-toxic paints? Do you know how much energy is used? How many raw materials, and how much of each? More importantly, do you know what the total impact would be? Can you measure it? I don't mean to be rude, but it seems as if you're just looking at a tiny, tiny aspect.
@TinCanToNA it's not all that unfeasible anymore. there are loads of high quality outdoor non-toxic paints these days. ya it'd cost a bit of money but if it helped cut warming i say go for it. i'm an apartment dweller myself though, so it's something that's pretty off my radar.
The science is simple, less air flow between buildings, all those large sky scrappers with all those windows reflecting UV light, pus the added humidity by being surrounded by a large body of water! Also, not much soil for the evaporated water to seep into when it's preoccupied by building/cement....
@KICKROCKS561 Is that a serious suggestion or are you just spinning your wheels? Do you think paint is free? What do you suppose the environmental and economic impact would be for trillions of gallons of white paint?
I hate urban places. Give me a 50 acre ranch in South Dakota or Wyoming and I will be completely happy. Anyone who suffers from asthma or terrible allergies have very few issues in those places, with the added benefit of far less humidity, sweat evaporation (rather than feeling sticky), and far, far fewer mosquitos and other pesky bugs. I've been to New York City once and hated it. How can people stand living like bees in a beehive? Don't they notice the smell, or realize the psychological and sociological damage of city living? it's been proven that the more population and urban a place becomes, the populous begins to not think of other people as human, and behaves far more rudely or cruelly. Why do you think so much crime happens in cities?
Geography Homework anyone?
LOL
yes
yup
nah. Just extremely bored.
Yup
@@Abel-qd2mn London England?
Does anybody know of a tool to easily measure a city's urban heat island areas?
You can use INVEST Urban cooling modelling for this.
@Chloe LIN You offered NOTHING as a resource...
@@eyluldutcu3802 You also offered NOTHING as a resource...
