I will be joining in for the Metra and the Carlyle. I encourage anyone reading this to participate as I sewed the Bomber jacket with Carol and it was so nice to chat about our challenges and our successes with those making the same project.
Thanks so much Kim!!! I'm glad you'll be joining in on the Metra. I've been thinking about that pattern for a while. I just need find the right color ponte. Do you have your fabric yet or are you still thinking about it?
Lovely jacket, I hope your Hubby will wear it the way it is and you could make him another one with changes :) Beautiful fabrics for your daughter. Amazing colours
I love that you’re going to start sewing for your daughter! I love making garments for mine. The only thing I find unfortunate is that she has similar colouring to me (I’m a winter and she’s a summer so we’re both cool toned) so I can’t use some of the warmer colours I have in my stash for her garments 😂 I need to find myself a Spring or Autumn family member to sew for. I’m really looking forward to seeing your Creston jeans. I’m not really in the market for jeans just yet, but you always have such great insights when you sew patterns for the first time, I can’t wait to hear. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!! 💞
Thanks Izzy! You inspired me to start sewing for my daughter! Now I just need your daughter to inspire mine to edit my videos lol!! Before I really learned about colors I bought a lot of cool toned fabrics because I thought I was a "cool" Now I use some of the cool toned fabrics to make wearable toiles. They look fine, just not as good as the warm tones do. I'm interested in how the jeans turn out too. Jenny has some tutorials and vlogs about fitting and stuff, so I plan on watching them before cutting into fabric. I hope you have a good weekend too. Also - I'm glad you're back in your office once in a while even it makes you tired. I think you'll find you're more inspired to sew different patterns when you have an audience to show them off to! ❤️ Congrats on your 2000 subs! (so jellly)!
Hi, Carol! 👋 What a lovely wool jacket! If you make it again from scratch, do the narrow shoulder adjustment and then measure the pattern back to determine if your husband needs a broad back adjustment. My son does! 😊 About Liesl’s patterns: I personally believes she designs them with a very narrow block. They’re beautiful patterns, but they’re the ones I ALWAYS have to adjust. I’m sort of skinny and have a small chest and I have to do full bust adjustments. Beautiful, beautiful fabrics, and your daughter is gorgeous! 🥰
Hi Lynn! Thanks for the advice/instruction on the wool jacket. That will definitely help me on the next one. I appreciate the heads up on the Liesl & co patterns. I'm looking at a few for my daughter, and like you, she's smaller chested and also skinny so I'll be sure to try and fit the pattern before cutting into the fabric. Do you do much sewing for your son? What do you generally make for him? I'm kind of interested in sewing for my husband except he's been a little surly today so his jacket will go on the back burner for a day or two before I start on the buttonholes - lol! I hope you have a good weekend 😊😊
@@pollysews Hey, Carol. I sew t-shirts, regular shirts, shorts and pants for my son. I just did a quick search for the pattern I use most, but I wasn’t able to put my hands on it. How maddening is that? I think it’s a Simplicity pattern. Cargo pants and shirt on the cover. He loves cargo pants and these fit him just the way he likes. I used super hero fabric for the top slash pockets and he loved them. (He’s 45 and not flashy or extroverted at all.) I was surprised when he requested that I do all his slash pockets that way. 😂 Oh yes, I’ve sewn lots of long-line briefs for him, too. They make great gifts with “special” fabric panels to jazz them up. My son-in-law really enjoys them too. It’s way too much fun using slightly naughty panels. I started making those as a sort of gag gift, but they went over so well I’ve kept making them. Edited to add that I use the Stitch Upon A Time BoxerWear pattern for those.
Agree that you should try a narrow shoulder adjustment. I like the pivot and slide method (rather than slashing) because its easier and it brings the underarm up a little too. The Sewing Workshop with Linda Lee explains it nicely.
Your family is so lucky to have you sew for them! The shacket looks beautiful in that wool. I'm curious to know if you have any specific fabric in mind if you make another bomber jacket - and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished one!
Thanks Amy. I haven't any specific fabric in mind for my next bomber jacket. I'd like to be able to use some of the rib knit that I bought so the color palette might lean towards that. I wish I had some great fabric stores nearby to just walk around and find the perfect fabric. Your bomber turned out great by the way. Thanks for sending the pictures!
Your husband jacket is so well done, so sorry that it didn't fit well, but I am sure you will be able to fix it. Your daughter is so lovely! She will look so nice in all the fabrics you got for her. I love the of white sweat shirt fabric. Cargo pants in linnen will be perfect!
Thank you so much, Katinka! It comforted me to read you liked the white sweat shirt fabric. I like it too, but most think it's a little boring. Are you going into summer in South Africa?
Hi Carol, the jacket turned out really great and the fabric is awesome, it is sad to know that it didn’t fit him the way you thought it would ☹️☹️☹️. You have great plans for all that great fabric for your daughter; it will keep us entertained 👏👏👏. I don’t have any Cashmerette patterns, but you can sign me up for the Metra Blazer👍👍👍. I will send you an email. 💕💕💕💕
Hi Karen! I haven't had time to watch your Think Pink video yet, but maybe tomorrow morning with my morning cup of tea. It's my favorite time of the day especially now since it's staying dark in the morning and beginning to get cooler. I like to have my cup of tea and watch my sewing videos! I hope you join in on the metra blazer. I'll be out of town this Saturday the 14th so we're starting the zoom sewing circles on Saturday, October 21st and every Saturday going forward. I hope you can join a couple - it would be fun to talk via zoom instead of only comments 🌞🌞
i know exactly what you mean about being used to things not fitting properly and warping your sense of what is a good fit. i was also used to tops/jackets just hanging off my shoulders and i thought it was supposed to be like that--in fact for a long time i thought i had broad shoulders (i do proportionally but not objectively) when i actually have quite narrow shoulders. it's funny to think how i would never have known that if i didn't start making my own clothes.
Hi Sara! I hope you're doing well! I was going to reach out to you for pattern suggestions for my daughter. Although she's not quite a short as you - she's 5'3" - she is built somewhat similar to you. I've been watching a lot of your videos looking at what patterns you've made.
I still have every intention of joining you in your Cashmerette Club club. I’m just not available until later in the month due to some family commitments. I can’t wait to see your bomber jacket, I’ve been really on the fence about that pattern for me. (My age, body shape, and the Canadian climate make me wonder if it’s worth it.) I do have plans for some corduroy creston jeans and a carlyle tee, though. Don’t give up on me yet!
Hi Dionne! I'll never give up on you! 😁 I hope you can join in with our Cashmerette Club club. When you're ready, send an email to pollysews22@gmail.com and I can send you a link. There won't be a meeting this Saturday the 14th, but we'll start meeting every Saturday on October 21st going forward. I like the idea of corduroy creston jeans! I have a dark brown cotton twill that I was thinking of using. Happy sewing and hope to see you soon!
The shacket is lovely and it's too bad the fit isn't quite working - very disappointing, indeed, and I hope you can rescue it or your husband just decides to wear it open - it's too nice to give up on! Your daughter is beautiful and I love all the fabrics you selected together. Good luck to her in graduate school!
Thanks Mary. I think the shacket will be "good enough" for my husband. The fabric will keep him warm so I'm pretty certain he'll get a lot of use out of it. He had a bone marrow transplant (due to cancer) in 2009 and since then he really feels the cold. I think my daughter is lovely too. Thank you for saying so. Do you have kids? grandkids? dog or cat?
I'm catching up on your videos in chronological order. My husband did not have cancer, but he is feeling the cold, too, b/c of blood thinners for cardiac disease - we have to keep these guys warm! I have a daughter who is 41 and is also a true redhead, complete with the orange eyebrows :) and a 37-year-old son, but sadly, no grandchildren and no pets unless you count the squirrels we feed outdoors! @@pollysews
Carol, nice video, as usual. Your husband's jacket is so nice. You can tell right away that it's made with high-quality fabric.
