I'm a US academic who finished a PhD at 32, after stints in other unskilled and skilled work sectors. The opening quote about Nick's experience as an older student is spot on. Academia is supposed to give us the latitude to explore ideas detached from reality. Most of the ideas are kerfluffle, and they should be. Golden ideas emerge from the mess, though, and eventually make it into application. The return-on-investment is enormous. However, academia at this point totally abuses this freedom and privilege. Taxpayers and donors also increasingly underwrite the expenses for all of the non-essential facilities, bureaucracy, and services. The fanciest private and flagship state universities - I'm at one of them - have the biggest problems and most enormous waste. Then, on the other hand, there's a massive underclass of academics who are struggling to run the local and regional colleges and universities serving the vast majority of everyday Americans. We really need outsiders with higher legal authority and fiduciary responsibility to start putting the regulatory teeth on my peers, especially those in the elite schools. The hearings on antisemitism, withdrawal of private funders, and sputtering crackdowns on the tentifada unfolding across campuses are good signs but not far enough. Believe me, a lot of us are sick of the loud minority of academics who push dumb, destructive, and anti-small-l-liberal ideas and procedures on people.

The government in the healthcare has screwed that dynamic and made it so expensive.

Dear Mr. Freitas: As a former resident of Richmond VA, I beg you to look into Richmond's history. Richmond VA is the most important city in modern history. Why is there a Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond just below the Virginia state Capitol building? How does Richmond being the Capital of The Confederacy play into that? What was Mark Warner's first act as newly elected Virginia Governor? Broad St in Richmond is extremely symbolic if you know history... Staunton, UVA, VA State Capitol are all on Route 250. Remember, in the early 1900s, Virginia use to forcibly sterilize WHITE PEOPLE AGAINST THEIR WILL AND WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT. All of the racial issues and concerns, learn the true history of Richmond and you will see the world, past and present, with great clarity! What was the real purpose of tearing down all the statues on Monument Street?
Read "War Against The Weak" by Edwin Black and realize that Buck Mountain is the hill Virginia Tech is built against on 460.

Bryan we love you... but these zoom episodes in 2024 are a kinda hard to watch. I know investing in a studio costs... but idk maybe u can do it from your living room like rick glassman does. It's way better.
