DON'T EVER DO THIS! You will ruin the end of the crankshaft! Either use a brass punch or put the flywheel nut back on about half way and hit that. DO NOT hit the end of the crankshaft directly with a steel bolt or punch or the hammer directly!
NO! You'll mushroon the crank end, or break it and be very angry! A plastic, rewhide, copper, brass, a soft hammer. Give it a tap or three and she'll come off. Remember your hitting the crank, go easy! No metal tools on the crankshaft!
really easy way is to remove the chain cover,and flywheel nut then using a copper hammer give the crank a sharp tap the shock loosens the flywheel and that's it.
Use a plastic piston stop, and watch out of the cheap Amazon ones because they get smashed. Apparently, you don’t need to jam the piston if you’re using an impact driver tho.
That's how to damage the end of the crankshaft !!

if you are replacing the whole crankshaft/bearings/seals etc it doesn’t matter so much lol…id like to see what he does getting the case apart…😂
Leave the nut on the shaft & undo it say 1 1/2 turns. Then but it. Doing what you did will & can damage the shaft & thread

I'm not sure, however, I most likely will be as it helps to reduce the rick of the nut coming loose during operation.
Is there a woodruff key or is it machined into the flywheel?
An air impact tool applied to the shaft will pop it off instantly with no possibility of damage.

Never, never hit the crankshaft with a hammer like you showed your chance to destroy your bearing and seals of the cranksgaft are 99% !!

how do you tighten that flywheel up? my problem is the flywheel moves around inside, grab hold of it and it moves back and forth.

I don't believe so, the shaft is keyed so they flywheel positioning will always remain the same.
