    Mate that's the best model railway I've ever seen, everything looks so real and original even the sound effects from the engine to the sound of the wagons as the run along the track. As a child i used to live in North London and mum and dads house backed on to the LNER main Kings Cross to Edinburgh line. I used to watch most of well known steam engines from my bedroom window. Your layout brings back memories of those days gone and lost for ever. Well done mate you must so proud of what you have achieved, absolutely fantastic thank you for the video

      @@MouldyRaspberry yes it was but I'll tell this, no way were in they the condition they are today, you had the Flying Scotsman Mallard etc. They were filthy dirty in a neglected state, seeing all those famous engines at that time you just saw them as steam engines. They were still interesting though. Our local marshalling yard at Hornsey North London even had the Blue Deltic DP1 on loan from English Electric, most parts of the country had their turn as well because it was experimental at the time and that's what they did. I can remember that stopping while shunting on the line right outside my bedroom window, I was really excited to see it that close. All them years ago 1959 sixty three years ago. Anyway that's enough from me, you look after and cherish that great railway layout you are really talented good luck and take care from Reg

    Hi Mr Mouldy good videos but the driver of the Black Five needs to wind the reverser back from 65 towards approx 35 per cent in order to both save coal and the fireman's back. Also also a class 2mt tank would never be rostered on an un- fitted coal train of that length due to lack of breaking power, in fact the use of tank engines on un- fitted frieght trains was heavily frowned against if not band altogether, hence the sight of various tender engines on even very short frieght trains. During my relatively short train spotting period (1964-1970) I once saw a lengthy ( approx 25 vehicle parcel train 50-50 mix of 4 wheel and bogie stock) all vac fitted romping along behind a std 4mt tank through Kentish Town north London.the above comments are not a criticism but intended to be helpful. I do enjoy your videos greatly very nice scenics.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  2 роки тому

      Thanks Robert. That’s interesting, I’m sure you’re right about the 2MT. I don’t think tank engines on unfitted freight were banned altogether as they were so frequently used on lengthy downhill unfitted coal trains in South Wales for example - although the panniers, 56xx, 72xx etc were a fair bit more powerful than a 2MT! Maybe it was just a western region thing…

      @@MouldyRaspberry There would have been ten carriages, enough to take most of the town’s school children. It must have made a fine sight climbing Talerddig. Yes. Very successful locos. The last one I saw was while sitting in a DMU held in a loop. It came up the bank at a crawl hauling a long train of wagons far too long to fit in the loop. There was a high sun which backlit the steam and even better there was a gentle following wind which matched the speed of the loco. This meant that it and we sat in the DMU were enveloped in a bright ‘white-out’ of steam which only cleared gradually as the wagons clanked past. We’d seen the 76XXX that morning at Aberystwyth with a tender full of ovoids. The sound and fury of the locomotive was unforgettable.

      @@MouldyRaspberry I remember them loaded with track panels, pipes, girders and steel plate at an angle like the empty wagon you run with the frame work on. Some girders were longer than the wagon and they had a 2 axle flat wagon between each bogie bolster which made a lovey wheel rhythm Just remembered as well I think it was this type of wagon they carried military vehicles on. I don't know where they went but they had army and Royal Navy vehicles that were often smashed up so either going to some place they repaired them or a scrap yard. This was in the 70's so a bit later than the time you model but it would make an interesting train

    As always I enjoy very much the fantastic surroundings of your railway . When you show it to other people , the first impression is always , that is a real one . My N Scale railway is the total different. I am a shunter. I have not much landscape, only one train station but I have a big industrial area with a lot of big , medium and small sized factory’s. From coalmine to brewery , agriculture to chemical , machinery to car dealer .
    All have their connections to the main line and need daily deliveries or take away the loaded wagons .
    But I am in the same time period as you . Steam still dominating but diesel and because I am from Germany Electric locomotives are in good use . Unfortunately my available room is much smaller but big enough for full time action.
    I think we model railway enthusiasts had so far the least problems with the pandemic . There is always so much to do .
    A happy new year to all from Bavaria in Germany where we have had a bank holiday today.

I was interested in the long wheelbase van in the van train about two back from the loco, you have some great unusual wagons on the layout. Is it an ex LNER CCT? I was wondering if the Ivatt tank would be allowed to haul the coal train in real life on a line like this. Just thinking about the weight of the train compared to the loco, it's great in the video anything goes on my layout too, but I'm just curious...........Well thanks again and look forward to next weeks.
