This is why it's important to purge regularly throughout your life so you don't end up needing a massive sort when you are no longer able to do the work your self. Start now. Take care of a box or bag or two every week. That's 50 to 100 boxes or bags a year. They add up!
    PS You're a godsend, Renee!

    • @reneeshull
      @reneeshull  2 місяці тому +6

Absolutely, regular purging is so important to avoid overwhelming tasks later on. Tackling a box or bag each week really does add up over time. Great advice! And thank you so much for your kind words-I'm glad to help! 😊💪✨

I was thinking the same thing. That looks like a job worthy of way more than one person. We just cleaned out my parents house. They passed 3 days apart in July. We didn’t have to consult with anyone about memorabilia though so we were able to sort through it fairly quickly

Credit card receipt! You put the cc down on the metal thing, put the paper on top of it, slide the "ca-chunk thing" over both, and it makes an imprint of the card, thanks to carbon paper. I'm so technical. 🤣
Regarding sentimental items: I was very close to my grandmother. After she passed, I ended up with several things. After a couple of years, I realized that I was more "attached" to some of her things and less "attached" to others. I went through the items and got rid of the things I was less attached to. Now, I have the things that mean the most to me.

You can still hear the "ChaChing" when it slides over the paper.

I’ve been helping my grandparents with their attic over the last two years. You are spot on with photographs and documents being hard to tackle.
Grandma has loved my extra outside eye help and push to make decisions on what is ok to part with.
Grandpa was a retired science teacher too and I was tasking him with a box a day to sort through. It was a complete memory lane exercise for him and we would be hearing the stories of where the ones he chose to keep came from and their significance.
He actually just passed away two months ago. It came suddenly, but a part of me is glad I was able to reunite some of those memories he had with things that had been so long tucked away.
Anyway, so nice that you do this as I know first hand how hard it is to do within your own family.

What a beautiful and touching story. It's wonderful that you were able to help your grandparents and share those precious moments with your grandpa. Thank you for sharing and for your kind words! ❤️

I thought I recognised this house. Wow 18 days is unbelievable. I hope you took a very well earned rest after this monumental task. I am in the process of dealing with photographs. I went through and let go on bad photos. Then I went through and found pictures extended family may want and mailed to them. I am putting the best of the photos in albums and letting the rest go. When my MIL died, my husband, an only child, and I had to clear out her condo. The one thing that was sentimental to him was her china. He really wanted us to keep it but I have my own that I don’t use much. My DIL didn’t want it either. We ended up taking it to a thrift shop, along with many other things. They sold a 12 place setting for $100. It killed him!

A credit card receipt they would insert into a machine with the credit card and slide the mechanism over the card and back, imprinting the credit card info onto the paper with the carbon in the middle for the copy.

I can still hear the sound of the machine. 😊

Did you participate in the sell of the items or was the daughter?

Wow! Lot of work, that man scored good but that's a great way to sell a bulk lot. Saves sitting for hours & only selling only bits & pieces.

Thank you! 😊 Bulk sales really do save so much time and hassle, especially when there’s so much to clear out. It was definitely a win for everyone involved!

I bet the daughter doesn't want most of that stuff either?

It's true; sometimes the next generation doesn't want to keep everything. The key is finding a balance between preserving meaningful items and letting go of the rest. It can be a tough process, but it's all about creating space for new memories. 😊

Every business needs a couple of workers like you. Imagining you working in a nursing home, it would be like having 4 of the rest of us lol.

If you mark thing at a lower price point you would sell more.

Thanks for the suggestion! 😊 The prices were already super low to begin with, and everything went to **½ price on the second day**, so we managed to clear out a lot. It was all about getting things moving quickly!
