Audie played himself in the movie To Hell and Back. Kind of surprised you had no idea who he was. There is a VA hospital in San Antonio, Texas that honors his name. My dad was a war hero from WW2. A Bomber Squadron Leader who was shot down on his 69th mission and spent 17 months in a German POW prison. His mother was a German immigrant so being half German, he went through torture, mock firing squads(because they treated him as a traitor), and after being liberated by the Russian Army, he self medicated with alcohol until 1973. He would only talk about the war 5 minutes before he passed out from drinking, and not at all after he joined AA. I spent a lot of time with him at the VA hospital. Most of our HEROs are broken men. I miss him every day.

Sabaton! I'd recommend their live versions of 'Price of a Mile' or 'Attack of the Dead Men'

Audie Murphy cured himself of drug addiction NOT PTSD. He suffered from PTSD until the day he died.

Good distinction. In his book To Hell and Back, he wrote that probably no one could help him get rid of that. The good thing is that he talked about it, made people aware. I remember my Auntie, working at the VA with WW2 and Korea vets, and saying at dinner, "They aren't helping those men."

Do Sabaton 'En livstid i krig' live from Gothenburg and turn on the subtitles. You won't be disappointed 👍🏻

much of the lyric's comes from Audie's poem he wrote "the crosses grow on anzio" .deff recommend doing "Sabaton History " on youtube to get the background on the songs, - ua-cam.com/video/n0PriUnAJ3U/v-deo.html

The beat and music is amazing but if you listen to the words is a fucking sad song that really goes over the hell that veterans lived through.

Fun fact Sabaton released several new singles like Royal Guard or Livigardt depending on version you view ( personally I prefer the English version it hits harder ) then you have Defence of Moscow as well Kingdom Come and recently they just released Steel Commanders from their new album The War To End All Wars

Respect for doing some research. Too many people just listen and don't know what they're listening to. And yes. You pronounced his name correctly. Theres not been a single American soldier thats served since him that didn't know that name well. Thats actually him in the battle scenes as he played himself in his biopic film like a G. Was an advocate for PTSD which he indeed suffered from badly. Guess that's that what happens when you've killed damn near 300 men by the time you leave your teenage years....

Check out "82nd All the Way" from them and then the Amaranthe cover of the same tune. Wonder which version you would like best?
