    For people in metric land where KWh per 100km is WAAAYYY easier a metric to understand that's about 18Kwh/100km which is pretty good actually

    Most modern larger EVs are getting nowhere near 3.4 miles per kWh, judging by all the EV road tests I watch on UA-cam. Enjoyed the music!

      Thanks. I've been trying to up the game with video editing to make the videos a bit more interesting. Its a big learning curve!
      Just shows how far ahead Tesla are, as my Model S is the generation 1, 2012 in the States. Legacy manufacturers aren't even matching them 10 years later!

    Thanks Matt, nice to see a similar car's stats. I have a 2018 MS 75 dual motor. I have had it since Aug 22 and in the past 5000 miles I have averaged 306 wh/mile. Worst I have seen is winter and wet (surprising how a wet day increases consumption, all that extra rolling resistance I suppose as wipers don't use much power) at 330 wh/mile and the best on a warm summer's day was 253 wh/mile.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому +1

      So there's not a huge difference then between the dual motor and single motor models then. I thought there was more, as that is similar economy to what I get in mine.

    Brilliant self explanatory video. I run a 2014 Model S P85 and would say yes exact same efficiency. You cant help mash that throttle on these things and the P goes that little bit quicker on acceleration but of can use more electrons with its bigger inverter (its where it gets the increased performance from as its same motor same battery as the S) so as with all these EVS getting the performance version means you have the option of more power but dont use it and you will use the same as the cooking version.

      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому

      Thanks. I've driven a few early P and P+ models and its amazing the additional power comes from the same motor as my RWD model.

    I was very interested to see what you are getting. I’ve got an early 2016 85D and had been a little disappointed with the efficiency. However a month ago. We cleaned out the handbrake servos and I’m now comfortably getting 265-290 Wh/mile. A recent trip from Torquay to Bedale with heating/air con and pressing on, I got 284 for the whole trip. There was some very heavy rain on the return trip. By comparison, I delivered a new EQB350 to north of Wigan and was struggling to get more than 2.8 miles per kW. After really trying hard, I managed 3.1. So the Model S is notably more efficient.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому +1

      Yes, binding brake pads and park brakes are an issue for EVs, particularly EVs with strong regen where the brakes are hardly used. I've done videos about this in the past and regularly brake cleaning and lubrication is a must for maximum driving efficiency.

    Thanks for translating to miles per kWh 👍
    We keep saying the Ioniq 38kW has spoilt us for anything else now. (which is a bit of luck as we had to buy it used at peak prices last year!) The warmer weather is seeing us in the 6's regularly now anything else would be much less fun😂
    Welcome to Kent,👋 a little bit further east is our neck of the woods. 👍

    • @GoGreenAutos

      Yes the original Ioniq is certainly the efficiency king when it comes to EVs and even beats the Tesla Model 3.

      In the same boat, bought Oct last year used. I'm averaging 5.8 until recently . With a bit of carefull driving to work and back can manage 7 miles/kWh with the warmer weather. Happy days.

      @@iantaylor1172 yep, it's a great car and a keeper. I also saw 7.3 last week but less on the return due to terrain and temp. It's such fun trying to outdo each other we're finding.😄
      Good to know others are getting the same figures too. 👍

      Not as much as I do. I was at a motorway services yesterday using the Tesla Superchargers and next to me was a 2014 green Model S. There's so few of these in the UK.

    Good Vid. Just picked up a P85 here and planning on not charging in the house and just using supercharging as there's one 10 miles away. I should be able to charge once a week and then get free commuting to work etc.

    Does the free super charge transfer with the car?
    What would you pay for one of these today with full service history and good mileage?
    What should you look for when buying one at this age? What tends to go wrong?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому

      Yes, free supercharging stays with the car on the early ones (up to early 2017 models). But you have to check, because if Tesla have taken in back in part-exchange, they strip it off the vehicle.
      Prices now in the UK are around £20K, but check on Autotrader.
      What to look for...that's a lot to answer. Plenty of videos about buying a used Model S on UA-cam. Some on this channel too.

    Have you managed to do a readout on the state of health on the battery at all. Would be interesting to see how the battery is holding up after many years use.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому +1

      I had a battery change in this car, just before the 8 year drivetrain warranty expired. So it has a "remanufacturered" pack fitted. These early 85kWh packs are prone to coolant leaks. So while the cells themselves are not degrading, a design fault means the packs get damaged. I now have a revision D pack fitted, which is still used and a similar age, but was told the fault cannot happen again as it has been designed out. I'm not sure how true this is though. There are videos on this channel about all of this.

    What is your model s showing as lifetime efficiency?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому

      I don't know about lifetime efficiency, but over the last 26,500 miles it has averaged 337 Wh/mi, which is 2.97 mpkWh. But then I don't try to drive this efficiently at all. I'm still enjoying the acceleration!

  • @sheldonv8
    @sheldonv8 Рік тому

    I have an old 2015 Model S 70D and they are definitely NOT inefficient when compared to cars of similar weight and even "lighter" EVs. . Look at the terrible iPace and eTrons that barely manage 2m/kWh. . Even rubbish like Corsas and Pug e208 only just do better. . The only cars that are more efficient are the likes of eNiros and MGs. . . The S is brilliant and still with it being nearly a decade old is a better car than any other EV out there. . only the Model 3 comes close to all round pleasure.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому

      Yes, you're right. My EV driving history is driving the most efficient EVs, so anything less than 4mpkWh seems poor. But of course a lot of the newer EVs are much less efficient.

    My company ETron gets barely over 2 miles KWh on the motorway
    Factor in the 79p per KW public charging fees and it makes it twice as expensive to run as a 5 series BMW
    Luckily I don’t pay the bill but if I did then I’d swap it for an ICE car at the earliest opportunity
    My company really screwed up getting us all EVs - and I hate waiting for the damned thing to charge up when I could and should be back at home !

      From the comments here, not as much as I was thinking!
      I've just looked up the ranges. A 2014 Model S 85 RWD had an EPA range of 265 miles. A 2016 85D (dual motor) is 270 miles. The new 2022 Model S (not yet in the UK) is 405 miles, yet the battery is only marginally larger.
