We have changed the fiber lighting arrangement - no dongle. The LED is "welded" on to the end of the fiber and electrically you can have two. The kit comes with one so we can add an option to select two lanterns/lights.
Jim, Would this work on a 3 rail O gauge set up? Allowing of course for the inner and outer rail configuration. Are your lantern sizes limited to N & HO scale?
Yes - it works best for a single track detect but can be set to ignore a second track that is placed close in parallel. In fact, our first printed lantern was O scale and we scaled it down to HO and N. I'll put O lanterns on the website this weekend.
Great stuff Jim. What happens when the back wheels are on an other block that has reversed phase? Also, do you have super-caps to fit with this setup? How much heavier is this caboose now? --dunc
Thanks for the call out! To your first question, "nothing". A "reverse" would simply mean that both the "A" rails or both the "B" rails are connected to the wheels. Therefore, no power and no lights, just like an engine. Once the circuit flip so that there is an "A" and "B" pickup, the lights will come back on. YEs, SuperCaps are now available for all lighting boards including the Caboose boards. The Caboose board AND the SuperCap board together weight 0.2 ounces - almost "nothing". ;). Jim
All our light boards have a built in DCC decoder as part of the circuit. You give the board/car an address just like and engine and then the function keys turn the two LED circuits on and off.
Jim makes an awesome product, listens to the wants of model railroaders and is a gentleman to work with. A true craftsman who takes pride in his work.
Jim, concerning the fiber dongle, could the orifice where you insert the fiber cable, be made to fit 2 fiber cables, to light two lanterns?

Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!

How do you control the light functions, does it have its own address for DCC?

@@ModelTrainTechnology okay and can you program the board when doing the installation?
Yes.
