The dorms look pretty nice. Out of curiosity, how much work did you put in for meeting friends at UCR excluding dormmates? I'm an incoming freshman, so I want to get the jist of things on campus.
mmmmm tbh... it's a bit difficult to make friends in class bc everyone just minds their own business. personally, i met people through social media/parties and as well as getting an on-campus job where i made some amazinggg friends. i do believe the best way of meeting people outside of your dorms though will be through getting involved on campus! but in general, all freshmen are in the same boat and everyone is super eager and welcome to make new friends so it really shouldn't be that difficult to find your group of people haha.
@@danlogic465 Didn't have the best experience with Pentland Hills. The rooms tend to be more isolated, and there's no interaction with other Pentland buildings. I went to UCR in 2002-2007 school years, and it used to have an 85% acceptance rate.
How is life at UCR different than highschool? As in the typical questions like is it much harder academic wise, social, financially. Essentially, can you give a summary/tips for those who are incoming freshmen?
As any transition to a university is, there is definitely a step up in academia. It really depends on the classes you take/your major/the professor. Like some classes aka breadth courses are pretty easy, easier than high school. Some classes are much harder. I feel like it’s a bit out of my place to say what’s easy and what’s hard because determining that is subjective. Socially, I feel that UCR is super big on making sure there is a good balance of having a social life and also being on top of academics. They hold a bunch of events and programs at least weekly to get to know the people around you as well as the school itself (they’re actually pretty cool). They also have larger scale events like our quarterly concerts! Also, if you live in the dorms you’re bound to make some friends. Financially, it’s really inclusive here, especially for the lower-income. I’m pretty sure we’re one of the top affordable UC’s because we offer good financial aid packages and grants. We’re also #1 public university in social mobility I believe heh. I’d love to go into depth if you have any other questions, you can dm me on my instagram! My insta is @mahliajade :-)
Honestly, my fav thing to do is eat off campus HAHA there are actually some really nice places like this place thats 5 min away called canyon crest, there are bunch of good little food places and stuff (arcade coffee is my fav there)! There is a theater right outside of campus in university village which is also full of good little food places! Mmmm and downtown riverside is cute haha but still exploring bc i feel like theres so many cute hidden spots, you kinda just find things to do so i wouldn’t agree with ppl saying theres nothing to do over here.
born & raised in riverside here! our local mall is the tyler mall, it’s a bit small but it’s always popping! lol if you’re looking for a giant outdoor mall, there’s victoria gardens about 25 min away and ontario mills 5 min away from the gardens! there’s mt rubidoux here in riverside, beautiful hill to hike and they have both a beginner and an advanced trail! downtown during christmas we have the festival of lights! it’s filled with vendors, live performances, rides and sometimes ice skating! it is so pretty & it attracts over half a million visitors to it every year! edit: forgot to add this! we also have 2/15 of the last remaining drive in theaters in all of california! they show all they same movies as a normal theatre but in your car! it’s a really cool experience (: I would suggest the van buren drive in over the rubidoux location! only $10 for 2 movies and they also have a swap meet there certain mornings of the week!
My move in for the dorms was like sept 16? Somewhere around that! Start of classes are usually the upcoming thursday. So say I moved in on a sat, you’re first class would be thurs! (I think, might be wed LOL)
There def is a huge greek life scene! I would say there are a bunch of parties, its just all about connections. But when it comes to guys you needa be IN a frat to be partying LOL
honestly, yes it's super easy to make friends! i actually met some french exchange students in the beginning of the year and it seems like they're doing well with their social life haha. i also had a couple in my hall which everyone was super eager to welcome and get to know!
I didn’t even know you replied I remember visiting the campus a year ago or so and it’s so dang nice up there I hope you do make a new year video I’ll watch it
First years! Its def hard w online classes bc that was me fall quarter, even now i haven’t really made friends in class but yenno i have my hall friends haha
The business school is top 3 or 2 among the UC’s I’m not entirely sure. And internships may be slightly harder to get considering Riv is a smaller more isolated town and we’re first year students. But still worth your time and the connections you will gain here
Even from the very brief screen time at 6:23, I can tell that physics TA is top tier. Five star TA right there.
Hahah I guess I'll have to agree with you on that
Awww ur friend group seems so great 😢 I’m seriously considering going to ucr next year and I rlly hope I find a group as fun as yours
Yes yes you will!!! Just gotta put yourself out there, especially within your hall :-)
Ayy nice look at social life at ucr, transferring in fall, excited 🤙🏽
Same!

@@mahliatrang1810 Alright! That's good to know. Thanks for the info!
This is West Lothian dorm. East Lothian is even nicer.
@@waltchan It sure looks amazing. I've already got my room for the upcoming year. Although it isn't Lothian, pentland hills still looks cool.

for public policy they require you to take an internship class for a quarter and provide you with opportunities so in a way yes
