So many haters in the comment section.
Would I pay $5000 for this job? Heck no. There are people out there who don't want to do a single bit of manual labor and have no issue with paying darn near any price for labor work. Good for him on finding a good paying market.

Thanks fellow “Handyman”. Since watching this video and your bathroom cost estimating video last year, I’ve done about a dozen small bathrooms and one big bathroom. It has become a niche market for me here, as there are fewer and fewer people competent enough to do this job.

Love your videos just found them yesterday. I've been in the plumbing heating and ac industry for 23 years. I also used to remodel bathrooms on the side at night and weekends as well years ago. Great work keep it up man your very good at what you do and very versatile within all trades that's awesome to see! You take pride in your work and are very efficient it's sorely lacking these days.

I like the way you did this, fast fwd but no real breaks in action and showing the sequence from start to finish
like you said also good detail about why you can charge what you charge and you booked out for months, so you are doing something right.

if you as a homeowner are wondering about the price an thinking, hell I can do that for much less. I do this for a living and will tell you. #1. he's in San Francisco #2 because of his years of experience, this is made to look easy. try it yourself and see. hell just try baseboards in your house and see how that goes. seems simple, right? #3 we don't know the price of the fixtures and are guessing from our own sense of style what we think they should cost. This is a decent price for a good quality job in a high cost of living area. I'm in Georgia and would still charge about $3800, and customers that know how much things cost, and also know the quality of my work, will not balk at all. Finally #4 any of you talking crap about the job and price are not his target customer for a very good reason. keep it up man. new subscriber to this and your other channel, and I'm binge watching some of your vids right now. great job, great advice and I thank you for that.

That closet flange on the toilet wasn’t high enough after you tiled. Betcha the wax seal was barely contacting.
A trick without replacing the stack is to use these new foam toilet flange seals (HomeDepot). They’re long lasting and will give you an inch or two of correction.
    Cheers to all.

The "pros" charge upto $800, I charge $200 and I can do it in 30 minutes. It's a great money maker if you don't have a fear of "icky" jobs and know how to do it properly. It's very easy when you know how.

Let them all complain! The bathroom looks great and updated! Most tradesmen, that know their worth, recognize that a savvy homeowner would rather be paying someone $5000 to aquire the correct materials and do the work properly in 3 days than spend several weekends researching and doing it themselves. Time is valuable to everyone, and for an individual handyman/tradesman with broad "know how" it's valued in cash.

This world will give you anything you believe you can attain and aggressively seek out.....This man believes in the value he's providing for his clients, and the "right" clients (who are willing to pay for that value) hire him and pay him.
If you're saying "$5K is a lot of money! Nobody could charge that in my area"......etc....I guarantee you will never find the clients that see value in what you provide, and are willing to pay you for it.
Think about what you're saying/doing.....He's showing most of you that you could double your prices and, instead of learning from him, you're trying to make the case that he's "charging too much"......WHY!?🤷‍♂️

I love it! Commenters here don’t realize the unwillingness of wealthy people to do the slightest bit of manual labor. Very few of these “college educated” professionals can so much as hang a picture. If the client agrees to a price then it is a fair price. Another point to the knucklehead commenters, please consider investment in tools, vehicle, maintenance for both, time spent planning, shopping, taxes, insurance, and costs to continually market and maintain your business. There’s more to a job than just showing up at your door.

  • @mycats7321

Nice video. I like that you carefully took out the old vanity instead of destroying it. I hope it was recycled.
I'm not criticizing, but I'm wondering why the baseboard wouldn't go in before the toilet & vanity. It would make the install easier. Customers wanted the toilet in right away?
Did you caulk only on 3 sides of the toilet or did you caulk around it completely?
Also, for anyone who takes on such a project where it might take longer than 2 days, there is a plug that fits inside the closet flange (flange the toilet sits on top of) that keeps sewer gases from coming up. It's a good idea to plug it when the toilet is not on-- not only does it keep stuff from falling down into the drain, it keeps the gas out so it doesn't stink and/or make people sick.
The drain on that sink was an odd configuration.
What is the term for those braces you used to hold the trim on to the tub? I've never seen them before.

Good work isn’t cheap and cheap work isn’t good. A customer pays for the experience of working with a good person whom knows what they’re doing, which includes warranty, which is not charged for. To have a contractor/handyman to call when something happens or you need/want something fixed or beatified is priceless. If you like your contractor/handyman and want him/her to return an do more good work for you, pay them what they’re worth, otherwise they won’t be in business for very long to provide any services for you.

It's definitely an improvement but I sure as heck wouldn't pay $5,000 for that. No paint, not much of a vanity upgrade, no new toilet, and no new tub and/or shower. The materials couldn't have cost $750, so your labor charge on this is astronomical.

5000 is a good price. These keyboard contractors don’t know what it takes to do a bathroom. A plumber alone just to come out and do the plumbing job will run them a couple of hundred dollars, a tile setter will also run them a couple of hundreds if not thousands, a painter painting the walls and ceiling twice will also charge a couple of hundred dollars, electrician, the demo of course is hard labor worth the few hundred dollars. People don’t realize you have to pay for skills. Skills is obtained through experience, and experience is what pays! Great job handyman

I think I would have gotten charged about 500 for labor here in texas, maybe 1k in materials at most or I would have just done it myself. Granted I would not have done it in 2-3 days but a couple of weekends probably. I think part of the problem is people don't learn to do anything basic themselves and due to taxes, overhead, regulation, etc simple things turn into big charges when hiring it out. I have a busy profession but still love to learn new things and do things myself where I can. Sometimes my own work comes out better than the people we hire since they are in a hurry. Great video. I admire professional tradies. Years of low apprenticeship pay, early mornings and long working hours while they train to gain the necessary qualifications to make an honest living and to help us. Remember too the physical toll this work does on their bodies. They are professionals and deserve the money if the job is undertaken correctly. (Also, the improved bathroom reno would have increased the owner's home value in excess of the 5k they paid). In Australia we have a growing shortage of good, professional tradies. Fewer young ones want to train and work that hard. FYI Most small basic bathroom renovations here start at $16K.

In my area, I got bids from remodelers for a small bathroom like this one for between $10k to $13k, including re-tiling of the bathtub area like he didn't do here, or removing the tub and putting in a shower, and if I wanted to expand the bathroom into the small adjacent bedroom, including a new free-standing tub, with some floor leveling, the cost was estimated at around $30k. It seems ridiculous to me, but, the last couple guys I talked to won't even return my calls, so anymore, with the shortage of construction guys, they can quote whatever they want, and if they don't feel like working for you, they just don't return your calls. Getting bids is more like a job interview - I feel like they are interviewing me and other potential clients and they go with whoever will just hand over their checkbook and not ask any questions or have any concerns about how they do what they do. I feel like putting an ad on Craigslist and offering $5k to the first guy that will do the bathroom for that! In my area, a $5k bathroom remodel would be a great deal! - Hopefully a little better quality and more thorough than this one though. The guys that bid mine were recommended by Nextdoor, so I guess people are just used to getting screwed here. Of course, here, older home prices likely average around $500k and new or newer house prices average around $750k, so I'm sure that makes a difference.

Hell if youll ever see this comment, whenever you're placing tile start from the back of the room to the front. In your case from the tub to the door. Reason being that when you place your tiles & then stand or kneel on them when bearly put they get un levelled. Meaning when you walk on them barefoot you my cut yourself on a lefted end of tile.
After placing the tiles dont do any work on them till the next work day.

Cody B-A there’d be no way to make a hole in any of our concrete walls in our old house. Not without compromising the integrity as all the concrete walls were load bearing. All the interior walls you could remove, just not the concrete outer walls, or even knock a new hole in them. It was possible, but it would require hiring a specialized contractor and cost a small fortune.

    • @CASTSTONE

The average PROFESSIONAL, COMPLETE remodel in a bathroom that size with a great warranty in the United States falls around $18,000. I sell them for a living and compete against these prices constantly. Bathroom renovations tend to cost more than kitchens. A complete remodel is floors, trim, toilets, vanity, lights, vent, wall accessories, paint and new bathing area, such as tub/shower or shower only. The prices he charges are in the normal range and he does quality work.

I appreciate the video because I can use it as justification to raise my prices a little. I would do the floor for $600 and the vanity i would do for $400.
$5000 would be a total remodel "Down to the Studs" demo, tile the whole bathroom and install a glass shower, french sink, Moen faucet and shower controls, new light fixtures. And a Mosaic shower floor with black pebbles.

@ x1777lx. Here's a tip. Look up some woodworking plans online. Buy some basic tools. And just do it. You'll screw up but that's OK. Try again. Watch some UA-cam videos for tips. It can start as a hobby and the more you practice, the more you'll learn. I personally had no father in my life, so to speak, but learned by using common sense and some trial and error. I now have a budding business. I got tired of the suit and tie desk job. Have some confidence and you'll be fine. Oh, btw, try not to cut your fingers off. Safety first.

600 in tile? Betting that was 40 sqft of tile at most, mortar is cheap and he probably only needed at most 2 sheets of cement board. I’m not an expert but I’ve remodeled more than one bathroom and 6k is way too much for this $2,000 job. I’m remodeling one in one of my rental properties right now and it’s going to be less than $1,000 with a new tub and tiled shower! Granted, I’m doing all of the work but it’s easy to find tile less than $1 a sqft. I’m glad I don’t hire anyone to do work because I’d be broke
