What Is Land Use?

Land use might seem like a self explanatory term, but in the context of the legal powers to regulate the use of land and the history of planning in North America, the term is laden with numerous meanings. To understand land use as defined by planners is to understand planning as practiced throughout the 20th century United States, as well as the legacy of that history in the communities of the 21st century.
