I had just over a month left when most of this was filmed. Thankfully a few months after my one and only 'run-in' with the MPs!!! Killer Awesome! Great video, brings back memories.
The squadron was destined for Hohenfels when it was heading to the railhead in your videos. I remember because the Red Devils were already down there and celebrated 4th of July at Albertshof. Thanks for sharing this - great look back on my other hometown.
Thanks for your comment. I enjoyed serving the 11th ACR there. Colonel Abrams took care of us MPs, and we took care of him when we went with them to Graf.
Bob thanks, nice video. During my time 1966 - 1968 in Hersfeld I never saw an MP. I knew about the MP sub-post station and have been give photos of MPs during my time that I've used in some of my videos. I'm the one that started and with the help of many others got us our 3rd Squadron monument in front of HQ. Some GIs and others are not aware that the 3/14th ACR in Hersfeld was reflagged the 3/11th ACR .. The Deitz ... Suivez Moi ...
Thanks brother! And thank you for your service! I enjoyed my stay in Bad Hersfeld. The 11th ACR was good to us and we took care of them! It was a good relationship that we had with them, especially commander Colonel Abrams was a fantastic leader!
@@bobcruikshank2010 Like you, a lot of good men were stationed there. One office that served in Hersfeld became Four Star General BB Bell. Not to promote my video, but I have a photo of your MP Sub-Post and lots more in this video .. ua-cam.com/video/Y4gpWYCfNfQ/v-deo.html ....
I grew up in Bad Hersfeld right at that time (I was seven when the video was taped) so it’s a great walk on memory lane for me. Your favorite restaurant (Michelangelo) still exists although it’s at another location now. It’s amazing to see how much more car oriented the town center was back then with all the gas stations and parking spaces. These days it’s much more oriented towards walking pedestrians. Have you ever been back?
Thank you for your comment. Bad Hersfeld is a beautiful city. I enjoyed my stay there and in Butzbach. I have not been back, but some of my friends have. The changes throughout Germany after US Army bases closed were positive changes.
@@bobcruikshank2010 We still miss you as friends and neighbors though. I was eleven when the last GIs left Bad Hersfeld and I had to say good bye to my then best friend. The open houses at the barracks were fixed on schedule each year. Free bazooka gum and root beer. Oh I Moss this.

I was the Community !SG from 1981 to 1984. My office was on the second floor of the MP building.

I was there from 1990 until it closed. I'm pretty sure I recognize a few of them.
