Each year, rich students make up the majority of the summa cum laude of UP Diliman. Let's call it jealousy, but it's genuine envy since they don't have to worry about expenditures for four years because they are wealthy, and all they have to do is study and study, unlike other ISKO who have to study and work to support for their educational needs.
As an alumni, I think when our professors remind us that only around 10% of UPCAT takers pass, it's a fact and it's not meant to give us a superiority complex. There is a pressure to do better because a UP education is tax-funded.
Mismong sa loob ng UP system, may discrimination. They always say that it there are two campus lang UP Diliman/Manila and the other campuses. It is sad na mababa ang tingin sa mga ibang constituent universities. #UPBaguioShine
I think it's not superiority in a bad sense, you feel superior because among the hundreds of thousands of applicants, isa ka sa iilang pumasa. And yes, if a freshman enters the university with that feeling, just let the student savor the moment.
Hi, I'm an incoming Grade 12 student and willing to take UPCAT this Year or nonetheless maybe next year because of this amid Pandemic, I can't afford review centers and just an average student ranging my grades from 92 to 93, I'm in a sector of poverty in Visayan Region, and my Mother is jobless while my Father works in a private company with a 3k salary in a month, well thats life some are privilege and others aren't, Just pray for me to pass UPCAT so that I can continue my college bachelor course, Pray for me to pass, with my determination and Hardwork I can do it, I just want to serve our country and help the unprivileged sector here in our country 🌻❤

I like this vlog because it is critical of the different cultures and ideals that proliferate in UP. As an alumna, I think what better way to heal us of these social wounds is to maintain humility by not thinking that we are above "others." It's just an unhealthy mindset and not something to be proud of. We can still maintain excellence in the things we do even without thinking much highly of ourselves. No one likes a braggart at the top of the monkey tree. lol
Just watched this. I think corruption does not depend on the school you graduated from, it’s in individuals. Lots of people who came from other universities regardless kung high ranking or not unfortunately turned to be corrupt din if they immersed themselves too much in the system government man or nongovernment and yes may corruption din sa mga NGO, it depends. Siguro pitfall of thinking lang and nagseset ng standard yung mga tao na kapag UP Grad ay hindi dapat corrupt when in fact, we as citizens of this country should never at all cost embody corruption.
hellooo! i just want to point out some things :>. Enrolling in a review class does not necessarily equates to being rich, but it's true na it is a privilege. I enrolled kasi alam kong state uni ang kaya namin, hindi kaya ng family ko yung 50k-100k na tuition 👁️👄👁️lol. Another reason is that (you're right) public school system is a mess, may hierarchy at priorities na students pa rin. The UP and others is a joke and if people think otherwise, they prolly are the arrogant students who think that by coming to UP, they are already the best (give them a few years and they will get it out of their system). UP was a humbling experience. You may come in as arrogant but you're surrounded by brilliant people and you'll realize that you're a nobody and you can only try your best. Great video, dude! But I'm really curious on your thoughts on this: you seem like a person from a family with good financial standing (please do correct me if I'm wrong), are you willing to give your slot up in UP to someone less financially able than you?
I said privileged not rich. My dad is an OFW and my mom is a housewife. I studied in a science high school because my parents can’t afford paying for a private high school. I was only able to study in DLSU-SHS because of a full scholarship. DLSU’s tuition is 150K per school year, that’s beyond our financial capabilities. I’m not a rare case, many students follow this path: Sci High for Junior High School then either Ateneo SHS, DLSU-SHS, or USTSHS for SHS. All these schools groom students to pass UPCAT. To answer your question, honestly, no, I wouldn’t be able to afford most univs here in NCR without a scholarship.
The thing is being middle class just means being able to eat well and have complete amenities in the Philippines. But university education? Too expensive. Hence, even UP does not truly cater to the impoverished poor due to them having even less resources to develop with.
As of now po, OPTIONAL ang tuition fee (ibig sabihin hindi po kailangang magbayad ng tuition fee ang mga mag-aaral) dahil sa Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act ni Senators Ralph Recto, Sonny Angara et.al. at principally sponsored ni Bam Aquino. Automatic pong Iskolar ng Bayan ang tawag sa inyo kapag sa State Colleges and Universities ka nag-aaral.
Let em be apolitical or DDS tho. It is a practice of freedom of thought. Why not stop the affective polarization? And that narrative, "You cannot have a different opinion."
