Here is a follow up video, showing what happens if you use WD-40 & if you happen to have an easy to remove piston: ua-cam.com/video/7p4yvK5p-RE/v-deo.html Not everyone will have this experience, your chair might still be super stubborn even with WD-40!
Use WD40 or analogue before, on both places, leave overnight. 5 strikes with strength, no need for berserk rage, that all what it takes afterwards for each side. I've read down 100 comments and no one mentioned it. So please get this one to the moon.
Ok tie the chair to a tree ass end out, attach another rope to the old hydraulic unit and the other end to your F-150 tow hitch and put tht bitch in Overdrive! problem solved no caveman strikes needed.
$25 for the gas lift instead of $300 for a new chair. Replaced my 5 year old gas lift on this DX Racer chair, and what a difference. Sincere thanks from a guy on a budget. I didn't have vise grips, but a large wrench works just fine.
Most replacement gas cylinders are only rated to 250 lbs. For $10 more you can buy a 400 lb rated cylinder that has the exact same machined tolerances as the cheaper cylinders. It will turn your light duty Drift/Formula chair into a King/Tank chair.
My DxRacer Racing gaslift lasted just 3-4 years of VERY INTENSE 8-15hrs use. Just buy Ikea gaming chair like Matchspel instead of bothering with fancy impractical designs(other elements of design are impractical too).
Finally a tutorial which is not scripted. I thought i were doing something wrong clapping my chair lots of times until the gas lift cylinder fell off... Nice work there
Dude, thank you for showing your struggle. All the other vids I saw their shit just popped right off like it was nothing. Thanks to you, I was able to get my cylinder off.
Removing the cylinder from the base is very difficult. I had to release the clip on the bottom of the cylinder to release it from the mechanism and then I placed the base upside down in between 2 metal chairs and gave at her with a 15lb dumbell and a folded towel. Made some nice cookie shapes out of the towel but about 10-20 good, hard wacks later, it finally came loose.
Omg Dude, I just saw your video and you helped SO much. For weeks I have been periodically trying to get it off with a mallet because other videos told me to use that instead of a hammer and it never budged. Switching to a hammer, it came off in SECONDS. Also bought a new cylinder off of Amazon that lifts way higher and is able to carry more weight. Never been happier!
I just replaced the gas lift on my DxRacer Tank. I got it free on warranty because I noticed it after just a year, but I kept the old one on until it broke completely, which was today, some three years later. Your guide was super helpful and I got it off without demounting the bracket.
just had occassion to replace the gas lift on my Noble Hero, this was the first vid that popped up in my search, helped a lot, as did the comments, cheers fella
Here's a tip for those that are having a really hard time removing the piston from the chair: ice packs. Specifically, you need an ice pack that can be wrapped around an object. These can be found at most Pharmacy stores like Rite Aid, Walmart, CVS, etc. For the bottom where the wheel base is, wrap the ice pack above the wheelbase. A couple whacks later with a rubber mallet (from the bottom of the piston) and it should pop right out. Then wrap the same ice pack (or another if the first one isn't cold enough) to the top of the piston (make sure the piston is fully extended for the best effect). Give it about 30 seconds, then start whacking on the baseplate of the chair and it should pop right out (make sure you're pulling on the piston while whacking. The reason behind this is simple: thermodynamics. By cooling the metal of the cylinder base and the top of the piston it causes the metal to shrink just enough to break the compression seal that is caused simply by sitting on the chair. Hopefully this tip will help others do this kind of repair. It also causes less damage to not only the piston (if you plan on keeping it) and the chair itself since you're not whacking it too many times.
After hammering on the lower part of the cylinder for two days, everything came out of the cylinder but the cylinder itself was still stuck. In desperation, I also decided to drop the base from head height onto a concrete road. On the second attempt, the cylinder was out. So don't waste time and energy with the hammer. Let gravity do the work for you.
This video really helped me out. I justed switched one of my chairs gas lift to my broken one on my gaming chair and it worked like a charm. Thanks man this was super helpful.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have been looking to find a similar gamers chair gas lift replacement video so that I would then have the confidence to "give it a go" and I was successful and I'm stoked. Cheers!
A rubber mallet is really helpful. Also, go to a auto or hardware store and get some PB Blaster. Spray it around the base on each end and give it a few minutes to penetrate; comes out so much easier. Really helpful video though. DXRacer has clearly never taken apart one of their own chairs because it is not a few taps and you're good to go.
Thanks man, rotating the chair legs while hitting them 2-4 times each helped me finally removing the shitty "steel" "150kg" base that broke within less than 4 years while being used by 80-98 kg myself.
we needed to do it too. And most videos, especially those from DXRacer themselves, is just some light tapping with a hammer to get it apart because nobody sat on these ever. Thanks for showing how much force it actually takes to take this piece of shit apart. We managed to finally get my husband back up so he can see his monitors xD
Thanks bro just changed mine. If it dies within 2 years of buying, DX racer ( i think it was two years) will send you a spare like they did with mine. earplugs came in handy
Honestly , all others videos i see make it look easy to take out the first part , and me been convinced decided to use a hard wood to hit that of my DXracer king series which i have used for more than 4 years and i got the shock of my life , the top came out easy but then the cylinder and the leg with rollers was another story , and i realized i was in for a big fight , believe me i had to buy a hammer by force , so for anyone thinking of doing this be ready for the hammering , it is not easy as it looks , what surprised me the most if how something with no screw or glue was so tight and hard to come apart , nevertheless thanks for the video , it helped alot ..Merci
Nice Video. Thank you for the recommendation my friend. I've also bought this MasteryMart gas lift cylinder from Amazon a year ago, for both my Dxracer and Turcotte chair. Well, I was glad that I didn't have to throw away my expensive chair. They are good quality and easy to install. The only difficulty was taking the old cylinder off the chair, I used a pipe wrench to remove the old ones instead of using a hammer (afraid to damage my chair base XD). Overall the cylinder perform excellent so far, quiet and smooth. Cheers.
Hi there, thank you so very much for the help video, I'm moving out to a new family home and my gaming chair is no longer holding up any more. Thanks to your video now I know what to do and how to get a replacement cylinder. Thank you so very much, also I'm new here to your Channel. 😊 😊
Had same problem with my Corsair gaming chair. Original gas lift lasted just over a year. Also had to replace all the wheels as ball bearings ended up all over the floor.
still useful for other models of these chairs. what helped me out is to listen to the sound he makes with his hammer. try to match that frequency with yours and it'll be out in no time. also some hype music helped me out
I just wanna say a big thanks for this video. I tried for several days to get that effing gas spring out, had it in a vice, biggest pliers and vice grips i had, no good. Picked it up by the spring and tapped the metal surround with a hammer like you did, not 30 seconds later it all came apart. Now I was far too impatient to look for my rubber mallet and now my chair has a few dings, but who cares, can't see them unless you turn the chair upside down. So, if you can't get the gas spring out, do what this guy did and it will come apart.
Thank you thank you thank you you have just save me a 45 minute drive to Walmart that you just showed me to do by myself in two seconds truly appreciate it.
Hello and thank you for the video Tutorial. I also want to change the height of my dxracer with a new gas lift cylinder but dxracer support for germany told me that this is not possible. Pls can you tell me what was the height of you chair with the original gas lift cylinder and how much height did you get with the new cylinder? Thank you very much
So if I removed the clip and the legs came off but the lift is still on the bracket I did it wrong? Seems to be stuck now, think I should screw the 4 screws back to the chair and hammer.

Thx for this vid it didnt help me because i knew what i needed to do but it did help me realize i wasnt going insane because i was hitting that cylinder for like 5 min and wouldnt budge
That seemed like the common occurrence for people, they didn't know sometimes its just needs some proper hammering lol even though a lot of people say its wrong and to just use a lubricant or WD-40 to loosen it, but even then it can bee bad if the company used cheap materials that rusted over the years

Hey just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for the video. Just replaced my piece of crap gas cylinder and am nice and comfy again and not constantly lifting my arm leading to shoulder discomfort.
Thank you for this. I actually had to replace the tension dial plate but this had to be moved from the old to the new and this videon helped immensely.
Hey does this fix the insane cracking noise? I tried Barnacules method of lubrication to the shaft but didn´t do anything to my chair.. still cracks horrible loud sounds when I move the chair..
Total Kommando dude, I took off the wheels and used my hands to force the piston to move and it made a crack!!! So I took this off like you showed, very hardly stuck.. but I was right in my thought, piston that was hooked to the chair was stuck cause lubricant was gone from years of use!!! So I put lubricant there and re-attatched everything AND IT WORKS FINE NOW!! DX RACER CLASSIC, the big one
Thanks man!! was really helpful, followed you step by step ( but tbh i sparyed WD-40 like half an hour before reinstalling cylinder) and successfully replaced the cylinder
Any standard gas lift will do from Amazon, just check the reviews to make sure its good, and the higher the rated lift power the better, lastly check the minimum and maximum lift heights to see if they work for you, it may be hard as you may not exactly know the details of when its installed compared to yours. My DX Racer Drifter Series chair has no issues staying up at it's max height. But when I lower it just a tiny tiny bit, lock the handle back in to keep it at that height. It will stay at that height as long as I don't get up off the chair because the moment I get back on it, it sinks all the way down to the bottom. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be normal but I'm assuming that it isn't, how do I get it to stay locked at a specific lower height than the max?
@@TotalKommando Okay, but if that's the case then how come it can stay up at the maximum height all day long even after getting off it and back on. Could it just be the locking mechanism that is the issue?
@@gh0stp1rate The piston has a button when pressed, it extends. But when pressed and sat on, it compresses. You can take apart the chair base and see what's going on. To me it's pouring towards the piston.
Dude, how did you do it? I'm trying to change the lift on my Vernazza and I'm going insane. I can't even get the legs / bottom part off. Hammered the fuck out of that shit and nothing.
Just remove the metal clip at the bottom of the gas cylinder there is no need for the hammer. The popping and clicking is from a bad bearing. You can get new bearings for $10 on amazon. Don’t forget the grease. Only need to replace the cylinder if thenchair keeps sinking
i want to see a "hammer-free" video pls :) if you open the clip at the bottom only the lower part will get loose... the "main" gas cylinder/lift will stay in the Tilt/Lift Mechanism ... o/ and i know your comment is one year old ... lets revive it
Thank you. I had to remove my mechanism and wasn't sure if it screws off or if it just needed me to rage it off :) I gave mine a few solid taps and then gripped it with a water pump pliers and twisted it out, rather easily.
Let's just say there's a reason they have disabled comments on their official video on how to do this. The only real way to do it is as you've shown. I absolutely massacred my old lift getting it out of the wheel base.
Thanks! I couldn't hit mine from the end and other methods (twisting etc) weren't working for me but holding the old cylinder with the vice grips and tapping did the trick!
This is the toughest job ever .. I did similiar way like you did at 1am and woke up my dad and he went to my room but he's not mad he's just laugh and ask me just buy another set with wheels and legs ... 😄
I tried banging and forcing my gas lift off for about half an hour until I tried turning the thing on the bottom towards "loose" and it fell out. I dunno if that was just a coincidence or not but god im glad it's finally off.
The cap of my cylinder came out and the chair keeps wobbling and I can’t sit straight because it leans forward a lot, the fact that this has been 3 times to me before is severely annoying i hate the pistons
Should work fine I left a link in the description but they should all use the same standard fit with the only difference being height and weight support
Great video, thanks for showing this. The tutorial video dxracer does is so far from the real thing. You can see they are just tapping at one that is lightly put together. I realy had to hammer away on my dxracer king series. Just like you did in the video.
My friend bought me a chair. My feet dont touch the ground when i sit so i have to return. Thing is i cant remove cylinder. I cant damage it. What will i do??
If it's a new chair, you could remove it without damaging it easily. Mine was hard because it was old and rusted. Could also wear slides, or use a foot riser.
The DXRacer/other brands actually have higher quality gas lifts than most chairs from places like Officeworks (here in Australia) etc. Where most of those fail within a year or so, I had my DXRacers metal frame break before the gas lift, about 5 years. I would order a new gas lift from DXRacer if you can.
@@reavl6494 My dxracer broke twice, both times within 6 months. Gas lift, then frame. Same exact issues, same time frame, same break order. Gas lift, then roughly 1 month, then frame bends itself backwards. I switched to a Secretlab chair and I've had zero issues so far. Had it for about 8 months now and it's just fine, gas lift works like it's still brand new...so, I'm more sure than ever that DXRacer are using subpar gas lifts. Thanks for the reminder that DXRacer should never get money from me ever again 👍
Thabk you so much u saved me a hole day wondering how to disasseble it cuz i was doing it but u sad do it hard and it came off i luv u deserved like and sub
Hii ! a question bro i realized the seat moves slightly as I lean forward and back is that normal or you think is the gas cylinder worn? i already checked the chair wheels , wheel base , seat , back rest , armrest and everything is working fine.
hi i didn't find any video but i find a solution i double checked the wheel base and i realized the slot is worn out so you need to fill something in that worn out hole slot to prevent the cylinder break through the wheel base if that happen you'll realize that the chair will feel weird or something missing unstable. You move slightly leaning forward and back and feel the chair is not stable is moving, so that's try putting tape , an aluminium can layer in that worn out slot or simple put rough tape around the cylinder to prevent moving further down. Edit: to know is the circle worn out or don't you will see a line in the slot and discolored sometimes riven
Had the same fun getting the piston out. Solution? Cool the stem down so it contracts in the receiving socket. I used lighter gas from an aerosol (carefully). Pipe freeze spray would be better, I expect. Cooled it an it slipped out with no more hammering. Job done.
I had to use some WD-40 and spray it between the base and the gas piston just to get it out while hitting it with my mallet just to get the base off. Because my base's lil wheel slot in one of my wheels broke so I had to order a gaming chair base replacement today. The damn thing was stuck in there tg for WD-40!
thanks for the vid , I was having trouble getting cylinder loose from the seat . This helps. I have ordered a new cylinder for my old chair. Not sure if it will solve my problem though as mine was leaning to the right when sitting , but what the heck I will try it.
That's one thing what one wants a home of one's own for (without family or other's nearby). One can do that shit all day, without anyone being able to complain. Wonderful freedom..
ive been tapping away on the lift to loose it from the legs... the other part is lose already but for the life of me i cant get it to losen! been using a hammer and hammering away on it and ive been att it for days ;_; IT JUST WONT LOOSEN! driving me insane
That dusting off part shoulda been done long time ago. We got the same chair but mines came with two cushion pillows. I would say to honest bang that old one out from the bottom of wheels which makes it more easier for you since you ain't gonna need old one any longer.

@@gh0stp1rate The piston has a button when pressed, it extends. But when pressed and sat on, it compresses. You can take apart the chair base and see what's going on. To me it's pouring towards the piston.
@@TotalKommando Hey man, just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate it that you even replied back to my comment directly, stay real man! :)
@@gh0stp1rate No worries : ) Always happy to help
Does this hydraulic cylinder have more range than the default one? I find my chair too low.
just fix mine bc of this video! thanks a lot 2022 and still good!!! What a good job!
Thanks man. This was the only tutorial that helped me out.
Thanks a lot, i was short before a crysis with my arozzi chair. Thanks for the tipp with hammering around the holding ring.
Dude, how did you do it? I'm trying to change the lift on my Vernazza and I'm going insane. I can't even get the legs / bottom part off. Hammered the fuck out of that shit and nothing.
@@Henning96GER I literally took a sledgehammer to it for the bottom part/wheelbase and exactly what he did for the top. No Kap.
@@Walker-gr4bj after excessive hammering I did manage to get the bottom part off and then I just opened the thingy on the lift to get it loose.
Bro im here because of the same chair. The leg broke on it so im trying to replace the base😂🤦♂️
Does this fix it if my height lifter don’t work like its all wobbly and don’t lift
Let's just say there's a reason they have disabled comments on their official video on how to do this. The only real way to do it is as you've shown. I absolutely massacred my old lift getting it out of the wheel base.
Did the new cylinder have goo on it? Or is mine messed up and I need to send it back???
Can I use any cylinder from any office chair or I have to buy a specific one?
The ones being sold on amazon are usually all standard and should work just fine
This was a great tutorial 😂🙏🏾
Great job. Thank you for the time and effort you took to make this video and share it with us. Greetings from Croatia.
Thanks for the video, had to do the same for my noblechairs, I replaced both cylinder and rock mechanism due to a defect.
I got a new gas Lift and it arrived like your old one (the stem is taller than your new one) is it faulty? or can I just put it on my chair?
I find taller stems to be a bonus. If it fits then its all good
@@TotalKommando I see, thanks for the reply.
Just used this to do my Brazen shadow pro gaming chair almost exactly the same underneath, worked perfectly as shown, cheers
have any chance to get this in amazon EU? my dxracer broken yesterday (model DXRacer K-Series OH/KS06/N)
LOL, "That's how they do it in the UA-cam video."
I just got my chair and lifted it up but it didn’t go back down so idk if I should try this
Thanks for the help, grabbed a clearance chair that came with the cylinder split in two halves.
I literally hate UA-cam so many ads

How do I know what type of one to buy for my gtracing gaming chair?
Should work fine I left a link in the description but they should all use the same standard fit with the only difference being height and weight support
Soooo.... how long did it take you to hammer out the cylinder. I’ve been doing this for a bit, and I can’t say I’ve made progress...
Great video, thanks for showing this. The tutorial video dxracer does is so far from the real thing. You can see they are just tapping at one that is lightly put together.
I realy had to hammer away on my dxracer king series. Just like you did in the video.
Thank you very much for this video, it was immensely helpful in replacing my own cylinder!
Information I’m interested in is how you determine what gast lift to get.
All the ones I encountered are the same interface and are universal. You will just encounter different heights and rated weight capacity
Thanks for the instructions! It worked perfectly on my dx racer
A lot of people have the opposite experience.
My gas lift broke within 6 months on my DXRacer. A $600 chair and it needs repaired after 6 months...
@@himi6536 my dxracer gas lift for 10 years without problems
Thank you, mate! Without your video, I wouldn't risk hammering the chair so hard and couldn't repair it by myself.
Hii ! a question bro i realized the seat moves slightly as I lean forward and back is that normal or you think is the gas cylinder worn? i already checked the chair wheels , wheel base , seat , back rest , armrest and everything is working fine.
I have the same problem but couldn't find any video, did u find one?
hi i didn't find any video but i find a solution i double checked the wheel base and i realized the slot is worn out so you need to fill something in that worn out hole slot to prevent the cylinder break through the wheel base if that happen you'll realize that the chair will feel weird or something missing unstable.
Thanx! Been trying so many times...! NOW, I did it! :D
Had the same fun getting the piston out. Solution? Cool the stem down so it contracts in the receiving socket. I used lighter gas from an aerosol (carefully). Pipe freeze spray would be better, I expect. Cooled it an it slipped out with no more hammering. Job done.
@InSomnia DrEvil well, did it worked?
@dr3v1l1993 did it work
Why does dxracer not fix this, it looks like only dxracer chairs have this problem (my dxracer sinks too) 😑
I had to use some WD-40 and spray it between the base and the gas piston just to get it out while hitting it with my mallet just to get the base off.
My chair is a high back fabric chair, I changed the gas cylinder but my chair still wobbles, seems theres no fix for this particular chair.
sounds like your chair base might be broken or warped
@@yes350yes Did you tighten all of the allen bolts?
That's one thing what one wants a home of one's own for (without family or other's nearby). One can do that shit all day, without anyone being able to complain. Wonderful freedom..
Man... I'm having a tone of issues taking the crappy cylinder out.
Spray w90
Same
@@Nullifys I just have cushions under so i get up higher
Thank you, worked for my dxracer fanatic edition, been struggling for years now
ive been tapping away on the lift to loose it from the legs... the other part is lose already but for the life of me i cant get it to losen! been using a hammer and hammering away on it and ive been att it for days ;_;
IT JUST WONT LOOSEN!
driving me insane
Thanks to you, I realised it's okay to smack the shit out of the chair without a hammer. Cheers for the tutorial
Eyyy
How did you get yours off mine wont move an inch
Try lubing it with some type of penetrating lubricant fluid, if you got nothing try spraying it well with WD40 leave it for a an hour and try again
@@TotalKommando i got it off but i nearly broke my finger while trying xD
@@Titaniagamer Yikes lol glad you dodged a trip to the hospital
That dusting off part shoulda been done long time ago. We got the same chair but mines came with two cushion pillows. I would say to honest bang that old one out from the bottom of wheels which makes it more easier for you since you ain't gonna need old one any longer.
Thank you for the help, managed to mend my expensive chair 👌🏻
Thanks man, you video helped big time
This will sound random but where did you get your desk from?
Its an IKEA Linnmon 2 meter long
your video really help me out bro thanks a lot
Wow thanks! The side hammer trick really worked :)
I don’t know what’s happening I took my chair apart then I put it back together started working again then it’s stopped again
Also this isn’t the chair that I have mines a secret lab chair but I don’t know why that happened
Does this work on a JL Comfurni?
Good chance but I cant say for sure, chairs usually use the same fit but with different heights which is ok
i guess im screwed.. i forgot to remove the safety pin from my gas lift cylinder ... and now my chair doesn't go up...
