Because you people don't read the Description, here it is as a comment... -------------------------------------------- I review the AMX 50 100, a tier 8 French heavy tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with replays of tier 10 Glacier and tier 8 Steppes battles. Prior to 2017, the 50 100 was regarded as an effective albeit finesse tank, but with the introduction of the over-armored tier 8 premium heavies and armor buffs in general from tiers 8-10, the 50 100 is more challenging to play with the current meta in 1.0. Strengths and Weaknesses + Excellent gun depression (-9), unusual for an autoloader + Excellent silver AP penetration (232) + Excellent top speed (51) + Good acceleration + Good accuracy for an autoloader (0.36 base) - Very long clip reload (~46.5 sec with Vents and BIA) creates long windows of downtime - Long intra-clip reload (2.73 sec) means increased exposure when dumping your clip - Long aim time (3 sec base) exceeds intra-clip reload, so you have to equip your tank and slot BIA accordingly - Poor armor - Low HP (1400) Recommended Equipment 1. VStab 2. Vents 3. GLD
I have 5 total battles in arty, with a WN8 of 12 (yes, twelve). I intend to keep it that way, forever. IMO arty is a horrible game mechanic for the non-arty players, so I don't play it.
good tank but i would not suggest it to play in current META becuz ur teammate cant last forever,so if u r out of friend u die.u cant really carry game becuz ur reload time
It's still a dangerous tank, as is any autoloader of course. The clip size is equal parts blessing and curse. The fact that you can, if absolutely necesary and if no alternative presents itself, remove a full health equal tier heavy tank from the game in 10 seconds is powerful but in most games totally irrelevant as it'll cost you all of your health. My biggest problem with it was that it's totally incapable of doing the job of a heavy when top tier. Tier 8 matchmaking only went to hell after I was done with it and I had a hard time choosing between my "responsibility" as a heavy and the fact that it is almost useless when fighting as a normal heavy on the "heavy corners". I still remember that sinking feeling when I found myself top tier and I actually did way better in tier 9 and 10 games. It's still probably the only tier 8 heavy that handles being up tiered gracefully. Good video, as always. Cheers.
Just a FYI when the 50/100 first came onto the battlefield it was a different tank. It was considered by many to be over powered. It fired its shells faster and it reloaded the chamber much faster. Get a platoon of these tanks on a team and the game was pretty much a forgone conclusion. A single 50/100 in the right hands could take down many tanks in a battle and could actually carry a team it was that good. People complained of course. WG did nerf the tank by changing the firing time and the reload was greatly increased to what it is today. After the nerf the 50/100 was no longer popular. It hasn't kept up with the power creep of the newer tanks in recent years either which makes it even more frustrating to play.
I started playing the 50 100 on April 4, 2014. So that was after the 0.7.2 nerfs in 2012. The tank after the nerfs was fairly balanced. It's harder to play with the current meta of heavily armored tanks. Although the gun depression according to tanks.gg was buffed from -6 to -9 with patch 0.9.19, which makes for very comfortable ridge fighting.
Interesting review on an uncommonly seen tank. Thanks for taking the time to lay out the detail and how to use the unique features of this tank to your advantage.
I recently got my amx 50 100 unlocked and I have to say I love the tank! It has its stranghts and weaknesses and I love to figure out how to play around them, found this video very helpful getting started on this process. Tip for you guys who just are about to get it: dont put the equipments right away, first research the upgraded tracks because otherwise you are stuck with the 170 pen gun (still the wot mm gods blessed me though and I got really good teams so my winrate is currently 72% with 28 games played :D my normal winrate is currently probably a bit above 50 if I dont play with my stock m103 that is...)
50 100 quickly became my favorite tank in this game after the buff to its gun depression. Before, I used to have shitty stats on it but now... I'm at almost 93% on the gun marks :) I almost always play it opportunistically. It just seems to work most reliably when doing so.
I love these videos. You teach so well with your commentary. Much better then just showing hundreds of kick ass games. Yup I even like the human factor when you tell us where an error occurred. spotting errors of your own and others will help us all get better. Thanks for the great vids.
Nice one. Would it be possible to slightly move your logo on the replays? It hides your speed, and I am always curious to see how fast, or slow a tank goes in various conditions. Cheers and thanks
Thanks Taugrim for this one (another great vid). I've had this tank for a while and just am not 'getting it' - i play poorly even by my standards. This will help a LOT!
always great youtube vids taugrim…..showing it like it is and not showboating a top tier game like a majority of the players that make youtube vids. Great player and great games keep up that good work.
Even in the current meta of over-armored tanks, I find that tier 8 lights perform well. Certainly, it's hard to play lights correctly, but most of my tier 8 lights have a WR north of 60%.
Thanks for posting this! I was curious to know how it had aged since I last played it years ago. I stopped at this and the 65t but may revisit them. Your advice is always excellent and useful for us non-unicums.
I quit this game but you have always been my favourite guide channel. Unsubscribed from them all but you, they show off top tier seals clubs too often. Keep up your good work keeping it real. Your video's have helped me play many tanks much better down my trip in wot. Loved your m4a1rev, french light line and especially your leopard line. 3 marked leo and elc amx, 2 marked m4, 1375,90 and batchat 12t.
I still love my 50 100. You have to be very sober when playing it, but it reward and encourage smart play since you need to relocate a lot in order to maximize your effectiveness during reload. Unlike T69, the gun is still really capable even in 3-5-7 meta (in fact, I prefer to be in middle or bottom in this tank). If there's anything to buff, buffing the aim time a little bit would make early to mid game less miserable (they could keep the other horrible gun soft stats to keep the flavor)
@Taugrim - What would you make of this new mechanic if the magazine would be topped up constantly, like the Italian auto-loaders? WG just recently buffed the IS-3A with this change and I'm sure they will have to revert that change back to full magazine reloads unless they dont give a damn about OP premiums. Pretty sure this change would allow you to make more of this vehicle and be more active in the game instead of spending half the time, waiting for loads.
the reload time of autoloaders forces you to think one to two moves after the brawling one.. like... you'll be exposed as soon as you'll be on reload so you have to learn to read a map to be useful and stay alive
T20 would be good i would like to see how well it has aged since i had it years ago (it was one of my favourites). i dont think it has ever been buffed since game release.
Great info...thanks...btw another typical game in the current meta.....15-4, either winning or losing side...this game as currently constituted is fucked....
Do you think Lorr 40t is better or worse than AMX 50 100? Lorr has the lower reload time (the one you like), but only 4 shells. Is Lorr 40t worth to buy?
40t is an excellent premium, arguably the best 40t premium for a skilled player, because you can spot with it, and you can flex with it. It has zero armor, but it's a great finesse tank. Being able to spot and having better mobility IMO makes the 40t better than the 50 100, but ofc you have to know how to use those things correctly.
I prefer the 90mm on the 50 100 due to lower reload and it's still usable 212 pen. I treat it like a medium so I try to hang back a bit or Wolfpack. 35 second reload is a big advantage for my play style
It’s as if you knew I recently fully upgraded my 50 100! Have you played the Italians enough to give advice on the tier 6 where I am? Good alpha and reload, but it’s too squishy to go with heavies and too slow to be an effective medium
I've only played the Progetto 46, the tier 8 premium. With slower mediums, you can't flex or push to aggressive locations as much, since the mobility isn't there. Still, nearly all mediums from tier 6 and up have flex potential.
Taugrim thanks I find I do really well if I play as a heavy/ heavy support when top tier and medium otherwise. Mobility is eh, but I like the dpm and sidescraping baits like a pro cuz they think it’s squishier than it is
Youe review was really helpful for grinding through the 50 100. I'm curious, do you think getting the 50 120 is worth it or should I just make the 50 100 a keeper? Thanks!
What do you think about tier 9 & 10? I heard AMX 50 120 is a worse tank on its tier, and 50B is also a worse tank than the closest competitor - T57HT. Did you play them? Did you enjoy playing? Are they worth to grind? IMHO - 50B should have the same DPM (reload/intra-clip reload) as T57HT to be competitive, don't you think? One has the speed, the other - the armor and HP. ...and as always - thank you for all the guidelines you put in your videos!
I briefly played the 50 120 (this is like 4 years ago), hated it, and Free XP'd to the 50B. The 50B has speed, and the premium ammo is APCR which is much better than HEAT. I found both the 50 120 and 50B to be difficult to play. They're huge and have zero turret armor, so you can't expect to bounce incoming shells when you are firing. Most regard the T57 as vastly superior for premade play, as the burst is much more compact, the clip reload is much shorter, and the turret armor can give troll bounces occasionally. I've found that I greatly prefer mobile autoloaders to the heavy autoloaders, as the latter can't spot and in the case of the T57 are sluggish.
Mobile autoloaders - do you mean LTs or also French MT: Lorr.40t, BC-25t (tier 9&10). You have reviewed Lorr.40t some time ago. How does it compare to AMX 50 120 and Somua? It has a shorter reload time (which you like), but only 4 shells. Do you think it is a good tank to play, especially with current MM (often with tier 10). Do you enjoy playing it? What about BC-25t (tier 9 & 10)? I am wondering if it is worth to buy Lorr 40t to train a crew for BC-25t and to enjoy playing WoT.
The (new) premium tier 8 Lorr 40t rocks. It has mobility, pen, and excellent burst. The Somua has better turret armor than the AMX 50 120. The issue with the 50 120 and 50B is that their turrets are butter. The BC 25t is a great tank.

i would just like to say that if you are in an autoloader call your reloads im not the best player but being aware of if you can help or not really changes my play style late game
I play tier 10s - my most-played tiers are 9, 8, and 10. As far as why no gold ammo: taugrim.com/2015/02/19/road-to-unicum-guide-videos-for-world-of-tanks/#no-gold-ammo taugrim.com/2015/02/19/road-to-unicum-guide-videos-for-world-of-tanks/#gold-ammo-credit-sink
This is excellent. I don't fire premium either. I feel that it is unfair on those that cant afford it. I also do reviews but I am nowhere near as good a player as you. All strength to your arm.
I'm hovering around 60% to gun mark, need to keep pushing for more damage. The long reload has been punishing my damage. Thinking to go back to the 90mm
Well, maybe you guys can help me decide. I have footage of the following (alphabetical order): a. HWK 12 b. M4A3E8 Sherman c. M 41 90 d. Rhm Pzw e. Strv 103B f. T20 g. T30 Fisherman's Bay
Just unlocking + full, 9 games and... it's slooooowwwww, awfull. The gun is not bad but need BIG buff, ammo speed and accuracy. And the reload of 100mm is awfull... -50sec just for playing :(
I fucking hate this tank tbh. The long clip reload, inter clip reload, dispersion and paper armour all add up to a POS package deal. The way a game tends to go is I wait for an opportunity, miss all the shots and get shred to pieces. Very high skill bottom or whatever you call it.
Just got back to World of Tanks and I felt the same way, But after cooling off I can do some basic reasoning, For example, there are already so many tanks that need balancing, And we'll only be getting more, And the Germany/Russian lines usually gets lots of love, by virtue of having detailed schematics and prototypes, Also they weren't knocked out of WW2 early like France did, So there was more research into tanks, Also the maps are also due for a general re-tweaking as well, if not a full blown rework into how they operate, given all the corridor combat, It might not be much, but it does contribute to how the French tanks mobility plays out, The French's Autoloaders, and speed might also give them just enough of an edge that they don't need to be a high priority, However as time goes by it become a more and more pronounced issue on them needing either a rework or some grand sweeping buffs, Plus because of years of general Light Tank nerfs, The french lights were gradually worn down, In closing, It's more of an issue of neglect rather then Personal Bias.
Because you people don't read the Description, here it is as a comment...

Any thoughts on running the 90mm gun to have a far more manageable clip reload at the cost of alpha and max burst?

Great vid. This tank seems like a slightly upgraded Lorr. 40t.
The Lorr 40t has camo though, so it can spot effectively. That's a big difference.
Do you think Lorr 40t is better or worse than AMX 50 100? Lorr has the lower reload time (the one you like), but only 4 shells. Is Lorr 40t worth to buy?

Heya Taugrim
Do you think you could move your icon on the bottom left a couple pixels to the right so that the vehicle speed is fully visible? Thanks!
Yes, I'll take a look in future videos.
I prefer the 90mm on the 50 100 due to lower reload and it's still usable 212 pen.

do u have the progetto? It's awesome, even better than t44-100 (which used to be my favourite tier 8 med).
Yes, it's a very fun tank. The autoreloader is unique.
I reviewed it back in Epi #61: ua-cam.com/video/wBzm7S6tC4E/v-deo.html
Why can't I move the view angle with my mouse??
Youe review was really helpful for grinding through the 50 100. I'm curious, do you think getting the 50 120 is worth it or should I just make the 50 100 a keeper? Thanks!
I found the 50 120 frustrating, as it very large and very soft. The clip burst is much more compact though.
Thank you for the reply. I'm considering giving up on the line altogether... @@taugrim

The BC 25t is a great tank.
You have ordered Type4Heavy to halt: at 5:10.
Why? Because of the 'Fridge' far away? He stopped there for next minute ;-)
I have no idea TBH and that was likely a fatfinger on my part. That Type 4 should have been more aggressive overall, so there's no reason for me to suggest him to stop.
I'll tell people to stop if they are about to over-expose themselves stupidly, especially without vision.
i would just like to say that if you are in an autoloader
call your reloads

Why do you run large med kit, but small repair kit?
For the passive bonus on the large med kit. It prevents crew injury, which reduces the number of times I might use it.
I configure mine as a medium. Gld, optics and vents.
It now has spotting of 550...so its not bad now.
im new to this channel so im wondering what the deal is why does Taugrim never use gold ammo or play tier 10s ? atleast while hes on youtube
I play tier 10s - my most-played tiers are 9, 8, and 10.
As far as why no gold ammo:

Just unlocking + full, 9 games and... it's slooooowwwww, awfull.
The gun is not bad but need BIG buff, ammo speed and accuracy.
And the reload of 100mm is awfull... -50sec just for playing :(
Wait 45% is a bad win rate 😜😁😂😂
I fucking hate this tank tbh. The long clip reload, inter clip reload, dispersion and paper armour all add up to a POS package deal. The way a game tends to go is I wait for an opportunity, miss all the shots and get shred to pieces. Very high skill bottom or whatever you call it.
U talk too much about nothing, What crew perks, and mechanics U need for this tank?
the worst fucking tank in this game, idk why but Wargaming might have some personal bias against french
Just got back to World of Tanks and I felt the same way, But after cooling off I can do some basic reasoning,
For example, there are already so many tanks that need balancing, And we'll only be getting more, And the Germany/Russian lines usually gets lots of love, by virtue of having detailed schematics and prototypes, Also they weren't knocked out of WW2 early like France did, So there was more research into tanks,
Also the maps are also due for a general re-tweaking as well, if not a full blown rework into how they operate, given all the corridor combat, It might not be much, but it does contribute to how the French tanks mobility plays out,
The French's Autoloaders, and speed might also give them just enough of an edge that they don't need to be a high priority, However as time goes by it become a more and more pronounced issue on them needing either a rework or some grand sweeping buffs,
Plus because of years of general Light Tank nerfs, The french lights were gradually worn down,
In closing, It's more of an issue of neglect rather then Personal Bias.
