Well! Clever tips. It’s those little details that give polished results. You’re very good at both techniques & teaching. And I fancy that Kiwi accent of yours. Thanks for explaining the diagonals too. Very helpful. Cheers

Marking one division and folding to it is a brilliant tip. Up to now I'd either be trying to use a pure origami method or marking every single division.
    Thank you so much!

One thing I like to do (and this tends to matter more with thicker paper like elephant hide) is to make one side always start as valley folds to make it look more consistent.

I've always loved folding grids. Looking forward to Autumn Leaves in Origami Connect 4/22, so thank you so much for showing 30x30 grid without cutting for horizontal and vertical. Do I use those grids as a reference point to fold in my 30x30 diagonal grids?

Yes, I recommend folding it corner to corner diagonally then move the corner two grid lines to do the next crease.

@@origami.by.e9415 Thank you so much for replying, Arabella as reminding me to measure 2 grid lines down before making the next crease. 👍👌

Thank you so much for replying, and especially reminding me to measure TWO grid lines down before creasing!

Hello Mr. E I have a question and I hope you can spare a few minutes to answer it for me. I have committed to folding harder tessellations and I have successfully folded several of your models here on your channel. I continue to have trouble folding my diagonals. I don't have trouble getting the correct number as frankly, that number is easy to figure out but it is my accuracy. I remember hearing Sara Adams talk about folding grids on one of her videos and learned a lot from her. She said that when folding diagonals, it is most important to get the two outside lines accurate and less important to have the center match 100%. I am wondering if you agree or whether you have a method for folding the diagonals that is more accurate? Thank you so much. I am currently working on the Hydrangea Surrounded by an Octagonal border. I folded the heart/mandala model over the past few days and finally have it close to perfected. I had tried folding your hydrangea surrounded by clovers and failed about a year ago and gave up but have now successfully folded that with the exception of the last clover in the four corners. Still working on that! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and skills with us. I truly appreciate it. Deborah

Sara Adams is absolutely correct 👍
If you are folding a large grid, once you have folded a lot of the horizontal/vertical creases when you go to fold the diagonals, you’ll find the corner of the paper won’t always line up with the centre crease perfectly, and can look quite off.
Lining up the ends of a new diagonal crease with the horizontal/vertical creases works well.
I called this video “part 1” because there is quite a few pointers to share on folding accurate grids… but life gets in the way and I have yet to record part 2.

@@origami.by.e9415 Thank you so much for responding. I know life gets in the way of getting things done and you have children which takes a lot of time. Mine is grown and out of the house so I have a lot of free time, now. Thank you again.

Sorry but I folded my 15 cm harmony into 30 x 30 grid just fine, but still don't understand how to get 30 x 30 diagonally. I folded corner to corner then moved the point down two grid lines, like you said, (which is two diamonds from the point) to crease, then moved down two more, but it's obvious the spaces are too wide, not like my horizontal and vertical grid. I'm obviously doing something wrong-duh. Could you please explain more specifically?

Sounds right. The diagonals divisions will be a bit wider than the horizontals.
Count how many diagonal divisions you will have if you continue that way…

      Ahh the elusive Part 2.
Life got in the way and it’s creation was put on hold.
      Will it ever come about?
      Only time will tell…
      But yeah, probably.
