My friend I have heard that this is a good approximation but its quality is bad Is it true Which is better in terms of quality and approximation of Sony or canon and thanks AuthenTech
I would buy this camera even if I never took a picture with it, just for the incredible wildlife views allowed. Some people on You Tube are getting absolutely amazing views with this camera. Binoculars are nice, but can't equal this. This thing is astounding for the money
Ben, I never comment on video's, however having done a ton of research in every nook and carny of the internet trying to get a decent in depth review of this camera, I finally found it. THANK YOU for being on of if not the first to provide some great hands on. Great video. I'm buying this camera, and before I watched this I couldn't say that for sure. I'm sold.
Ben Schmanke One question, did you find zoom noise to be irritating to you? I've noticed in sample videos it seems extraordinarily loud for some reason.
Hey Ben, I've watched dozens of reviews on the P900 and vote yours number 1. PLUS you covered several critical functions I needed to know that no one else did. Nice job - thanks!
I bought this for myself on my birthday yesterday, I just cannot wait for my trip to Yosemite next June. I was there 4 months ago and all I had with me was my smartphone and I missed so many opportunities... I found my DSLR too cumbersome to carry around also by the time I change my lens it's usually too late and I've missed an opportunity.. well never again with this little baby. Great review, it's convinced me I made the right decision... I bit the bullet and traded in my Nikon D3200. No regrets.
Great video. As a semi-pro-photographer, I was laughed at by my pro-photog friends when I bought it. They no longer laugh at me. I would say that 90% of photography is the person behind the camera. Seriously, and that is what we should teach.....Great composition, exposure control, depth-of-field and other things people with no experience do to create good vs. bad photographs.
I am glad to tell you that , Yes we can use manual focus while video recording.turn the dial to M mode, and press macro button, select MF, start video recording then use menu ring and roll it... wow !!!! That's all i was expecting from this massive camera... Anyway Thank you Mr. Ben.....
I watched for the second time. After the first time I went out and bought this. Now after using it for some and loving it, I watch it again and found the solution for something that has been frustrating me.The need to pull out the flip-out LCD panel. Watching you twist and flip track into place just blew my mind. That's what I've been looking for and it's been under my nose all the time. Great review and thank you.
Ben Schmanke One thing I haven't been able to ascertain on this camera (since I don't have it yet) is what the smallest f-stop is that you can shoot at, like for macros. Yeah you can do macros at under f8 (that's the only mention of aperture I've heard of yet on this camera) but you won't have much DOF. Not a deal-breaker, but it would be cool to go as low as f22.
***** Thanks for your comments! This is an interesting point, and I'll have to check it out and get back to you. Being a cmos sensor and not dslr, I'm not sure the same rule applies.
***** I double checked, and you are correct, when in manual, the smallest you can stop down is f/8. I did a macro photo test, and yes, from f2.8 to f8 you gain a bit of DOF (at least a few inches), but no way to go as low as f22.
Ben Schmanke Thanks, that's great to know! A few inches of DOF at close range is a LOT when it comes to macros. Along with focal length and distance from subject, DOF is a function of the sensor -- with my Nikon D7100, at f8 the DOF is less than an inch when right up to a bug (with a macro lens @ 90mm), as an example. Well my P900 is still on backorder, dying to get it!
I have a P600 and find it an excellent travelling camera. It is light and the zoom is extremely flexible in daylight. The viewfinder is a bit dinky but does the job. I understand they have improved it in the later models. I shot a lot of hand held video of a sailing regatta recently and it came out very well in HD.
I have just ordered one after seeing the results from it at my local nature reserve. Looks ideal as a photo recorder for wildlife pics. Seems a great Christmas present for myself.
Regarding poor lighting conditions, I just choose very slow shutterspeed (the camera's very efficient image stabilisator might handle even a one second shot) to avoid digital noise and produce rather impressive image quality.
Nice video very informative. I purchased my P900 last Friday for the super moon, wildlife, and landscape photography this video cleared up a few things for me. I am loving this camera!
Great review. Very comprehensive. Easy to watch and gets to the important info quickly and effectively with simple to the point explanations. Showing the images and the camera in action during the review was very helpful and aided with visually understand what was being said . Great job
+Ben Schmanke Yeah , I double that remark exactly , classy and sharp review , respect ! I am waiting for mine to arrive in the mail , I currently have the FZ200 and made some pretty good pix with it , then went with the Sony A6000 and it's biggest zoom (70-200G) but not handy (portable) enough for me , I am always on the go hiking , Nordic skiing in the mountains if you get my drift . Cheers and have fun taking colorful autumn photos ! -Alain
Indeed a very helpful video. I have been waffling around the Nikon/s B700, the Coolpix P610, the and the Nikon P900 which you have reviewed. I think you have sold me on this model. After all, it is the long reach zoom that I like.
I like the camera and I'm really thinking about buying one. Big Thanks for your great video its really helpful , very detailed and you have covered almost everything important about this camera. This review is the best i found on UA-cam! Thanks again..
Thank you for the review. Great information. I'd already gotten my P900, literally just the other day, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It's going to be great for those times I want a break from the 5lb lens. ;p I found your review pretty spot-on, and honestly for what cons there are.. this camera really is outstanding for what it is and what it costs. I'm really happy with mine.
First, good review that shows something from the camera and not just video zoom ins like on other "reviews" :) But 1 thing: The target audience wont care about sharp photos? What? If i can zoom like that i want to capture the moment as good as it can :) I want to buy that camera but im struggling if the image quality is good enough. I have an rx100 mk1 and it can produce really stunning pictures. If the p900 would be on the same level with hyper zoom that would be awesome.
Looking at one of these or a Nikon D5300. As for the slow motion thing i would keep it at 1080p and import the video into a video editor and slow it down myself.
1:25 How do I change the t/w buttons on the left side to manual focus buttons? At 2:22 I have it in P mode but I still can't get the focus to focus when I point at different subjects. What settings do I change?
I have one on back order :). You're right about DSLR users digging this camera for the focal length. I use a 150-500mm super-tele for wildlife and the P900 is going to open up a whole new world of photo opportunities for me -- now I'll never have to skip taking a shot because the animal is too far away. I've seen several test images that a friend (a very excellent wildlife photographer) has taken with this camera, and I'm impressed, really impressed! The image quality is great. Now I'm curious how this will work for shooting birds-in-flight -- can't wait to get my copy and field-test it!
Saw this camera at BEST BUY and it is huge compared to a Nikon P100 I owned. I read an article that says that the image sensor is small compared to a DSLR which is about the size of a postage stamp.
Hey Brother I have same camera but I m new user of such camera can you tell me how slow motion videos shoot from this camera? and how it is transferred into mobile phone?
I've heard people quote 85× zoom so many times. I bought it today and realized it's only 83×. Only .lol That's damn good for the price. Make sure you get a warranty because it will need maintainance due to the lense sliding in and out all the time.
I was worried about this camera as everyone seems to focus on the telephoto abilities. But it can take a reasonable picture as well and has some really good features. Thanks for the review. Great job.
Great help!!! I am going to watch it again now!! Getting ready for a trip to Alaska in two weeks and I have decided to take my Coolpix(only) and not include my 5500. Too much stuff is a problem with a bad back. I should be fine with my Coolpix.
Hi Ben, thanks for this detailed review. I use nikon p600. And it's p900 wowww !...But I would suggest that this camera is not good for long exposure photography because it has f2.8-6.5 only (for p600-f3.3-6.5). It is very good for for its telephoto performance. As u said 'The insane 83x zoom, 2,000mm telephoto lens'! the p600 has 60x zoom and 1536mm. it shold be a very good camera for travelling.
Yes, you moved neatly through most of the features of this camera without getting bogged down in technicality or coming across boring. I cannot believe Nikon. I remember when the P-500 came out about 5 years ago, how many in the industry ballyhooed them because they were to opposed to the compact zoom feature in cameras as it sacrificed quality. Nonsense! I've taken some stunning images with this camera standing next to others with very expensive add-on lenses. I had pretty much emasculated one guy in front his date with his old Minolta that couldn't come close to keeping up with my fantastic shots. I took twice as many shots at a higher res than him and he wasn't very happy about that. Oh well.
Wowww Amazing Review Ben. I never owned a camera but I’m trying to get one. While i was searching for a better one, i saw your review. And immediately I subscribed your channel. Would you recommend this camera for beginners like me? I’m not a professional photographer but I love to take lots of photos. Especially some sunset photos and star photos at night. Awesome review Ben. Keep it up.
When comparing DSLR and compacts, it's probably good to mention the difference in sensor size. Also, to combat the poor image quality at high ISO, a person could just use a long shutter speed with a sturdy tripod. Apparently the D900 can go as long as a 15 second exposure. This camera can often be found for $450 in 2017 :)
Thanks Ben. I'm just waiting for mine to arrive. First thing I am going to do is purchase a filter to protect the lens...I think that is one of the down sides to bridge cameras. Damage that lens and you are up the creek without a paddle :( It would have also been nice if Nikon had put a hot shoe for an external flash on this camera - as Canon do with their bridge cameras - and made the body more robust so that it was better in inclement weather. "TheSnobar" states that there is a firmware update to enable raw format. Can you confirm??? Cheers!
I've got the P610. It looks like there were a few features I really like I missed out on. Like being about to adjust the exposure and shutter! That would be fantastic! (Thankfully I do have a new DSLR too) I might look into buying this in a few years, or just get a Canon DSLR with a 400mm lens. Thanks for the video! It helps!
Ben, I find myself studying some of your material frame by frame. Nice job, and it's nice that you have answered questions. My P900 videos of perched and walking birds please me greatly. This camera, however, has two drawbacks for shooting birds. The resolution of the EVF and monitor are barely adequate to ascertain sharpness of moving targets (like swallow), especially in outdoor light. Worse, the shutter speed that you choose isn't respected by the video mode, unlike some other cheap cameras I have owned (e.g, Panasonic Lumix sx200). I like to shoot video of birds in flight. Oh sure, the camera can shoot 60p and even better (at 780p and 480p), but such frame rates hardly matter if each frame isn't recorded quickly, e.g, 1/1000 (for a robin) or 1/2000 (for a falcon), or 1/3000 of a second (for a hummingbird). Thus, the slower shutter speeds of this camera will not clearly stop most birds' wing beats, a golf swing, or a balloon bursting within each frame. In this camera, a high shutter speed can be set to stop action for photos but not for video, as far as I can tell. Am I wrong?
The Nikon Coolpix P900 looks like a great camera I just wish Nikon was making them available to customers in the UK. Launched here in March but since then almost no supplies. Amazon say 'delivery 1 to 3 months' but they've been saying that for months so clearly just a guess, and now they have change it to simply 'Currently unavailable we don't know when or if this item will be back in stock' ! Some specialist camera sites are taking pre-orders but with no idea when they will have stocks and one has now posted a red banner across the page saying that 'Due to issues with Nikon securing stock for the UK we will not be able to supply this camera until September / October 2015' And I have to wonder how sure they are even of that prediction as no-one seems to know what is happening with supplies. I've pre-ordered with a company that wants only a nominal deposit which seems fairer but none of them have any idea when Nikon will ship any cameras to fill even the pre-orders. I know Nikon issued an apology back in May but that was 6 weeks ago surely they must have some idea what is happening and IF they are still actually manufacturing, and it has to be a big IF, then surely they should have some schedule of shipments and so be able to say when the UK Nikon dealers will be getting their share of whatever units are being made. The fact that they haven't makes me think the reason is that, despite the predictable denials, there is some serious technical fault which they are endeavouring to rectify before shipping more units. Why else the near total lack of stock worldwide and the deafening silence re future deliveries. So, who knows, by the time they get it rectified and in production one of the other makers will have something even better about to launch. There is talk of a 100 x zoom Canon Powershot for 2016.
Superzoom compact cameras are really great during daylight. However with indoor photography and under poor light there are huge problems. The digital image sensor is very small and the aperture at 2,000mm (35mm equivalent) is very very small. Both doesn't receive receive much light and the very high ISO produces disastrous image noise. Nevertheless there are two solutions for that. The first is the obvious use of flash for indoor photography. The second is the use of tripod and very long shutter speeds. Of course super zoom lenses are inherently inferior to normal zoom lenses. However super zoom is a better solution than cropping the photo.
I like this type of review video that get straight to the point instead of bla bla bla for 10 minutes and then 2 minutes only about the camera itself.
+Bronze Armani - cool, thanks for the nice comments
Great review Ben. In only five minutes you managed to review all of the features of the camera with a few pics and video clips. Excellent job buddy.
Thank you!

Gururaj M S - You can also use the side lens "zoom/focus" rocker (if assigned in the menus) to manual focus in video mode as well.
Ben Schmanke Thank you....

Please check out my Review on this Camera. Thanks!
I have a P900 and found your presentation really helpful. No messing and right up front.
Thank you, Rosemarie
+Ben Schmanke (authentech) My pleasure. Your presentation was best of all I viewed today.
Best review of this camera yet, thank you :)
Thanks, Mark!

yeah I recently bought one and experimenting with it, so far it's been good looking forward to using it
on my next trip
LOL :D :) can I join your next trip?
Thank you for this review, is so nice to actually see photos in various lighting, so many reviewers don't put low light/night time photos...
Thanks for a comprehensive, unbiased review. I'm looking forward to receiving my P900 in a couple of days!
before i press Rec..its so nice and bright when I press Rec screen shown dark not same as before...please help me to soft this problem

Just ordered my one can't wait for it to arrive..... Happy Days..
This is great watching this video. You are much more exuberant in your later videos.
This is still a nice camera for it's age.
I have just ordered one after seeing the results from it at my local nature reserve. Looks ideal as a photo recorder for wildlife pics. Seems a great Christmas present for myself.
I hope you love the impressive zoom.
Many thanks for the clear and concise video illustrating the P900 features. I ordered one already!
Hi Ben, thanks - that was a no nonsense review, quick and crisp about the strengths of this camera, and who its meant for. Nicely done.
Sridutt YS Thank you.
Am I the only one who would get this camera to take pictures of those pesky UFOs?
Rokon
Right on, Bud.
Rokon No your not, bought mine for the same reason as you, plus moonshots and military air shows.
Rokon yes
Looks like a great choice for Area 51 photos. 🤐 IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE NEAR THERE. if any government agencies are viewing this. Seriously just joking.
Thank you for making this video! We are going to get this camera now for our vlog channel :)
Are you possibly the hidden brother of Bradley Cooper? :D
Cool to hear - I bet you got some awesome super moon shots
I just came back from lake Ontario using this camera and it woulds great! I love this camera.
+Jacob Clement - Sweet! Perfect for landscapes and nature

Indeed a very helpful video. I have been waffling around the Nikon/s B700, the Coolpix P610, the and the Nikon P900 which you have reviewed. I think you have sold me on this model. After all, it is the long reach zoom that I like.
Best review! 👍 I'm so glad you gave the specs as well!
I wish I had this camera 10 years ago before my legs got f*cked up in a car accident :(
Back then 12x zoom was the highest zoom on a P&S camera.
I was just thinking the camera I got in 2006 had 10x and I thought that was a lot back then. Sorry to read about your accident.
mattfox14 Life can be cruel sometimes :(
MegaBojan1993 why???? Would you have avoided the accident if you had this camera then ? Lolololololololol. Just don't get your comment
Don't worry bro time will bring other opportunities for you....rest assured
Sorry to hear about your accident. You should still get one, I bet you’d find a way to use it 😃
This will be perfect when I go long range target shooting! I'll be able to see a 12" steel target at 1000 yards.
I like the camera and I'm really thinking about buying one. Big Thanks for your great video its really helpful , very detailed and you have covered almost everything important about this camera. This review is the best i found on UA-cam! Thanks again..

I liked the way you reviewed the product.
i bought this camera.... and the results are really awsummmmmmmmmmm.
Love my Nikon p900, I've taken some really awesome wildlife shots with it.

I have same camera but I m new user of such camera can you tell me how slow motion videos shoot from this camera? and how it is transferred into mobile phone?
This is a absolute dream of travel camera. 2,000mm? OMG!
Thanks Ben I have just bought the p900 and found it just a great camera, still learning what it can do. :)
You're welcome, Ken. Yes, lots of cool features to explore
I've heard people quote 85× zoom so many times. I bought it today and realized it's only 83×. Only .lol

This camera is a beast! :o Nice and very helpful review btw. Thanks!
Hi Ben...It would be great if the camera came out in Red color..as in Nikon P600, etc....!!!!
Great review THANKS!! Got to get one..
Excellent review! Informative and too the point. Thanks :-)
Please tell me , is it possible to focus manually during video? focus and defocus while recording the video.. if yes tell me how.... thank you
Let me look into this and I'll get back to you.
Thanks Ben, good no nonsense review.Just enough to inform and lead into more thorough research if interested.
JIm Jones Cool, good to hear. Thanks!
Good review. Well done from the other side of the pond (UK)
Can't wait for phones to be able to zoom as much as this bad boy! :D
Nice review! Very useful in practical way!!

Thanks Frank! I'd love to do an in depth full review, if there's a lot of people requesting it.

Been looking at this camera, I think it will do everything I need.
great, try it out
This is the best camera to shoot sports video, with the best auto focus for zooming in on action.
Nice video. Thanks for all your work to make this video .
Thanks for the thanks!

Really AWESOME review!!! Thanks!
Thanks a bunch! You've practically sold it to my wife... :-)
Wonderful camera and a perfect video ! I must waiting till next month for my p900 :'(
Great Review. Thank you, I'm sold!
Thanks Ben.
I'm just waiting for mine to arrive.
First thing I am going to do is purchase a filter to protect the lens...I think that is one of the down sides to bridge cameras. Damage that lens and you are up the creek without a paddle :(
It would have also been nice if Nikon had put a hot shoe for an external flash on this camera - as Canon do with their bridge cameras - and made the body more robust so that it was better in inclement weather.
"TheSnobar" states that there is a firmware update to enable raw format. Can you confirm???
Cheers!
Probably the most helpful of ones I have been trying to find. Do you have other videos for the P900, like how to's?
As soon as this things comes in 4K, I get one
Getting one for Christmas...the only time of the yr to "legally" spend money without feeling no pain...
Great camera-Glad I got it-amazing!
How do you compare this to the Canon SX60?
Very nice review. Easy to watch. Thanks
Thanks!
great review mate :)
great review ben...
I know Nikon issued an apology back in May but that was 6 weeks ago surely they must have some idea what is happening and IF they are still actually manufacturing, and it has to be a big IF, then surely they should have some schedule of shipments and so be able to say when the UK
Nikon dealers will be getting their share of whatever units are being made. The fact that they haven't makes me think the reason is that, despite the predictable denials, there is some serious technical fault which they are endeavouring to rectify before shipping more units. Why
else the near total lack of stock worldwide and the deafening silence re future deliveries. So, who knows, by the time they get it rectified and in production one of the other makers will have something even better about to launch. There is talk of a 100 x zoom Canon Powershot for 2016.
Is their any updated model for this?
Awesome review!!
this is one cool camera with 2000 mm zoom !!
I bought Nikon P900 about 3 month back. It took very good pictures of moon but when sky is overcast the pictures are not sharp.
Why does there not exist a 2000mm lens of this size for regular interchangable lens cameras?
1080p video mode only? fuck, waiting for the next model.
and awesome review :) thanks for detailed explanation
Stalker must have equipment!
How to push it to 3000mm ?
great precise review
