  • In this video I will lead you through trains that run in Stockholm region and throughout Sweden. Trains that I have examined are high speed train X2000, SJ double-decker train, postal train, SJ night train and MTRX. Video is filmed in southern part of Stockholm, with the nature surroundings. Arlanda Express and Pendeltåg are not examined, as they run as separate systems. Roslagsbanan (narrow gauge railway) is made as separate video, due to its uniqueness. Enjoy!
If you have any comments please leave it bellow. I would very appreciate if you give your suggestions about some unusual railway or either train to experience.

Oh, there is a lot of railways around Stockholm:
"Arlandabanan" starts in Upplands Väsby and ends in Knivsta (length: 19 km)
"Grödingebanan" starts in Flemingsberg and ends in Järna (length: 31 km)
"Mälarbanan" starts in Stockholm and ends in Hovsta (Örebro) (length: 187 km)
"Nynäsbanan*" starts in Älvsjö and ends in Nynäshamn (length: 55 km)
"Ostkustbanan" starts in Stockholm and ends in Sundsvall (length: 400 km)
"Svealandsbanan" starts in Södertälje and ends in Valskog (length: 115 km)
"Västra stambanan" starts in Stockholm and ends in Göteborg (lenght: 455 km)
And this is just the railways used by express and regional trains. There is also some railways owned by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik) (Stockholm County Public Transport Authoroty):
"Pendeltågen" (Commuter trains) (length: 241 km)
    "Roslagsbanan" (length: 65 km)
    "Saltsjöbanan" (length: 19 km)
    "Tunnelbanan" (Metro) (length: 110 km)
*Nynäsbanan is only used by Pendeltågen (Commuter trains).

Hej, thanks for your comments. It would be too much if I put them in one video, so I tried to mention the most known. 🙂
Arlandaexpress and Pendeltåg I did not mention, but I think that I left that in video description.
I did not mention Roslagsbanan as I made separate video about it, please have a look 🙂
And thanks for all your info, some lines I did not know until now.
If you have time please check my videos abou Trans-Siberian Railway, or if you want more Swedish railways, check my trip to Abisko or Kinekullebanan. 🚞🚞🚞

Mälartåg is taken från Mälardalen, the Mälar Valley which the Lake Mälaren is located in basicly. So not entirely unconnected but named after the area, not the lake. =)

X3 Arlanda Express and X2000 train are amazing to ride on. Arlanda Express may be overpriced but it's worth it.

Great video! But I think you were a little to close to the railway in the last clip / Train driver

Hej Johan, thanks for your comment. It was close I agree, but within regulations. I did Trafikverket's safety training (basävista I think is called), so as I was aware of safety measures. :)

Mälartåg got its name from the lake mälaren

It might also be named after the larger area including lakes Mälaren and Hjälmaren known as Mälardalen (Mälaren Valley) stretching from Stockholm to Örebro and including cities Arboga, Västerås, Enköping, Eskilstuna and Strängnäs.
