At 80-years old I well remember when the Beatles "invaded" North America, appearing on the old Ed Sullivan Show on t-v, and like everyone I knew I was swept up in Beatlemania. I was working as a Radio DJ, and we even had one DJ who sported the Beatles haircut and called himself "Beatle Johnny" -- those were the days. Thanks Dr. SaxLove for another top notch compilation, and for stoking more memories for me of years gone by!!
I, too, fell in love with The Beatles when they first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. In 1964 I was an impressionable 9 year old. My small group of friends pretended we were The Beatles - I was George Harrison! After John Lennon's death I become a bit of a Beatles fanatic, collecting as much music and information as I could find. Thrilled to know you're enjoying these Beatles songs, Reverend - they just keep getting better and better over time, don't they?

How I remember watching the "British Invasion" when the Beatles appeared on the old Ed Sullivan t-v show and promptly set the music world on its ear. We were all enthused by the music of the boys from Mersey, England -- Beatle-mania spread throughout North America like wildfire, guys were getting their Beatle haircuts, gals were screaming every time they heard a Beatles song, saw them on t-v, or attended a Beatles concert. I was a radio announcer here in Canada at the time and we filled the airwaves with Beatles tunes -- we even had one announcer who had his hair and clothes styled after the band members and called himself "Beatle Johnny" on air. What a time that was. And their music has endured all of these years. Thanks Dr. SaxLove for this collection of Beatles songs and your tribute to them. Love it!! Rev. Doug Deegan (ret'd.)
I, too, remember when the Beatles came to America. A group of us kids in the neighborhood pretended we were The Beatles - I was George Harrison. I'll never forget the first time I heard "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" - thrilling! It wasn't until much later, after John Lennon was killed, that I really began to think about the depth and impact that their music was having and making. And now, to this day, I'm still amazed by every song including, my favorite, "You Know My Name" (look it up - it's remarkable). And I still live with the central concept of All You Need Is Love. Love you, Doug, and all who read this.

the guys here in san diego were not getting Beatle haircuts. neither myself or anyone here in 1957 got quite that dorky {sorry}and I dearly love all of them.

My pleasure man! If I were to ask you to suggest one, just ONE Sax educational material (hopefully DVD or something) that I could use to improve. I have been playing for about a year, on and off really. I love the blues and funk, and am scared of jazz! :D. I have all the typical beginner issues, embouchure, blowing, etc. but I'm not new to music.
So what would you suggest?
Sorry for the long rant, but I've been searching for certain things and never seemed to find them! They have little to do with the Sax, but with music mainly. Here's a list of some:
- Blues improvisation over changes, I need a really advanced guide, not the basic blues minor/major scales of 1, 4 and 5 chords!
- I hear pro players often play "outside" short runs within a blues run. I did a lot of analysis (time consuming) to figure out the theoretical foundation of those. Many approaches exist, from diminished chords to chromatic out-in runs, etc. How can I best learn this?
- and definitely a super good guide on breathing, blowing, playing those high notes (not altissimo, just those high notes of tenor, like high D to G).

Hey, Ashraf, I recorded a series of "tips and tricks" for sax players that might be of help to you - ua-cam.com/video/CZVeKBUw6OI/v-deo.html. If you have any other questions, please contact me through that channel. A couple other things: 1.) In terms of outside playing, you can analyze it forever, and certainly each player has his own approach, but the simple truth is that you only need to play notes that are not in the chord to sound "outside". So, in other words, if the band is playing a C7 chord, you play a C#7 chord, if only for a moment. That's the essence of playing "outside" and that's where you should start. 2.) Playing the blues is as much about feel as it is about notes. If you know the blues scale for the song you're playing, inject as much "feel" - that is, emotion - into the notes you're playing. I've heard a lot of really emotional players that don't have as much technical facility as some other players sound really good because they're "feeling" it. Let that always be your guide when you play the blues. Good luck, Ashraf, and let me know how I can help further. ~Mark

+Graham Taylor - Horse Hockey. The Beatles didn't need "Imagine" to enhance their legacy. They were already the greatest band ever, without it. It's a good but overrated song. The hippie national anthem. It never topped the charts, when it came out, and if it had been done by anyone other than John Lennon when it did come out, It wouldn't have even made the top 40. If Chapman had shot McCartney instead of Lennon, then "Let it be" would have the cult status that "Imagine" has, and "Imagine" would be just another "good song". .
