Dude you're a genius. I appreciate that you make it easy for people to understand what frets are and how to hold a pick because most people do not understand that people who watch these videos have NO idea how this works. I'm rather new to guitar and appreciate your overall introduction to how it works. Thanks to you, I'm going to keep learning because I know the very basics. I'll reccomend this video to anyone interested in learning. Cheers Martyz

I just bought a guitar today, November 14th, 2020. It's actually a kit that says guitar for dummies. I've always wanted to learn to play, I've always been to busy to learn. Now I'm taking advantage of being layed off during COVID. You're not going to believe what my name is. My name is Jimmy Hendricks. Yes, he's my favorite guitarist of all time. Love your video.
Got my first guitar for xmas and have been messing with it and watching videos. This is the first one that has made sense and was fun. Thanks for the first lesson, you made that easy and now I can actually play something.....lol

My wife left and took our son while I was at work last February and I’ve had my guitar and not played in year 10+ but picking it back up tonight all the pain left all the hurt thank you
How do you get the feel of embarrassment away while learning. I always feel embarrassed for some reason while trying to play and learn and my brain goes into full idiot mode while trying to learn.
You're alone man, do you feel embarassed taking a shit or fondling your junk? Whatever you do alone is your business. Everyone who played the guitar started somewhere. You don't have to play before you've had time to practice and develop skill.
Practice being kind to yourself- you’re learning a new skill! So many people don’t even bother to try. I try to tell myself how exciting it is to learn something new rather than focus on all the things I don’t know yet. TLDR: Celebrate your successes not your perceived failures.
Go get a cheapy from a pawn shop for 40.00..make sure neck isn't warped, (look from bottom of neck to top and see if it looks to be straight and not bowed in the middle). You can also at the ending of a school year get guitars anywhere they sell lessons for cheap...they are lesson guitars, previously owned and used..but well worth 40-60.00
Very helpful! Picked up my guitar for the first time today and I did this for 1,5-2 hours. I can't move my wrist anymore but this was an easy first step that boosted my confidence at least 100x. Thank you!
Man, I watched this when I was like 18years old and gave up after 5 mins. Fast forward 5 years and I watch this video again with a completely different mindset. #iwannareallylearnthistime
I know your pain i started playing yesterday and i have really soft fingers but if you play for a while every day your fingers get used to it mine are geting used to it very fast :D
I watched this last year and now I'm playing my first gig I owe it all to you thank you from the bottom of my heart, you have made my dream come true and I could never thank you enough❤️
You're a great teacher. I've had a guitar for years, but have never learned to play it. You have taught me more in this lesson, than I've learned with a private instructor.
Mandy Rice Same! My dad plays guitar and I'm trying to learn how to play so I can surprise him. Plus I have some good friends at school who are musically talented. 😀👍
lol agreed, everyone is saying there own thing so i guess everyone learns different but this guy did it for me, i had tried a few different tutorials before i left for summer vacation but coming back and watching this i must say it was the easiest and best beginner lesson i have found.
Just do it make your dreams come true yesterday you say today today you say tommorow so y won't you do it just....... awwwwwwww..........awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I don't even have a guitar yet, but I'm getting there. I really wanna play an instrument. I'm at the point where a dream gets created in your head. I was gonna learn violin, but then my family didn't really believe in me, so Imma go with this for starters. I mean I love guitar too. But they say it's easier than violin. Idk, maybe it is... At least they support me at that point. I don't even have a guitar yet...
It doesn't matter if your family believes in you- If YOU believe in yourself, do it! I used to play violin, but quit, now I may learn guitar. Just see what you like.
I used to play violin and am learning guitar now. So far the violin is MUCH more technical, difficult and more expensive to learn and play. Learning guitar gives good musical education too, so if you want to pick up the violin you'll already have some basic knowledge.
you need to be self motivating Don't rely on others support. Support your self. Do what you want. If some one tells me something is hard or I can't do it, makes me want to do it more and show them there wrong. (That can have negative effects in life too lol) But when learning an instrument, it's pretty necessary. You need some of that rebel spirit. They support you now. Wait till you keep strumming the same cord over and over and over and over......... Be prepared for the hate. But then one day you'll be sitting at a family gathering, pick up that guitar and play a song every one knows and you see them jamming to your playing.... It will be worth it.
So the first thing you need to know about a guitar is that its mostly made outta wood And then contrary to popular belief you need arms with a few fingers on em, 5 fingers on each hand should do fine.
A little over 50 years ago I picked up my first guitar. Self taught and picking up tips from people who could actually make musical sounds from their guitars. Went on to become what I would describe as an intermediate player at best. That brings us to now. Sitting in my music room largely untouched except to polish or freshen strings that are never played are my favorite Martin and my Stratocaster. They are just frozen in time waiting to be played. My hands are no longer strong, my fingers bent at odd ways from arthritis, but suddenly I came across this video and by patiently pausing and following your instructions, the magic of melodic sounds began coming out of that old Martin. I just wanted to thank you Marty and to say that I have signed up for your Guitar Jamz lessons. Feel free to give a shout out of encouragement to an old hippie.
Hi just bought my first guitar never played one before had a few lessons in school when I was about 12 and now being 48 I have forgotten but would love to learn how to play properly
Thanks so much for this! As you said in the beginning, I'd just tried half a dozen beginner tutorials and failed them all miserably, but then I saw this one and it's exactly what I needed! Thanks for explaining everything so clearly and inspiring me to keep trying :)
Thank you Marty!!!! I'm a 45 old guy with no music experience (except a failed year trying to blow on a trumpet in 7th grade). I always wanted to learn guitar but was completely overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. I was too embarrassed to even walk into a guitar store because I was clueless. I found your UA-cam videos and decided to buy my first guitar (Yamaha FG730). A week later, I ordered your 12 DVD beginner pack and am SO happy I did. You have a great teaching style, and the DVDs are really helping a lot. I'm on my way!
JCP1720vids hey thank you so very much for taking the extra step and purchasing a dvd set!! That is such a wonderful thing to hear from you! thank you so very much!
Marty I forget to mention has since sadly passed on , so learning all over to play the guitar again is making me feel so close to him and bringing back so many cherished memory of my beloved Grandad . Thanks so much.
I can't begin to tell you how much of an emotional impact this has had on me. I have had this Brand new Guitar in the case for almost 15 years. I was in the Air Force (retired now) and took this guitar all over the world and never once played it. Then yesterday April 15, 2016 I looked at the case sitting in the corner and I walked over to it and picked it up and opened it. Still as new as the day it was given to me by my ex-wife. We were married 19 years and it failed because i couldn't bring my mind back from the war overseas. I couldn't engage in being a husband after all I had been thru and done. It's been 4 years now since the separation and divorce and I hold the one thing the last thing I remember her giving me for my birthday. I pulled it out of the case and it smelled like the wood in wood shop. I decided i would see if you can teach an old dog new tricks. I found your You Tube video and realized that the guitar needed to be tuned. So I found another you tube video and tuned it to the best of my ability and then came back to your video. I had no idea how to hold it but watching you i think I got it. Just as I was strumming the strings and actually playing it I noticed my wife's hand print on the guitar from when she gave it to me. No one else has handled this guitar . I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for making my first lesson he most enjoyable moment in a long time. My ex and i won't be getting back together but I will learn to play like i told her i wanted too.
You're an amazing teacher and you have a great personality which makes it easier for me to watch. I am entertained while learning. Thank you for being you and for sharing your gift with the world
This was actually really helpful! I just got my hands on a guitar yesterday and I feel like I can improve fast when I learn how to play as smoothly as you do. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the videos Marty I'm 20 my dad has been playing his whole life and now I wanna learn. Your videos are helping me slowly make my dream come true. Again thank you so much.
My dad loves guitar so I'm teaching myself to surprise him lol he got me my own guitar when I was 4 and I'll soon be back to the house it's in but for now I'm borrowing his
I'm 16 years old, till a half year ago I never had anything with guitars even tho I listen rock and metal, but now I'm really interested, is there hope for me? xD
Of course! I started at about 14 or so on basic power chords so I could play easy punk rock songs and then eventually lost interest for about 6-7 years before getting back into it in my early 20s. It's never too late. I learned very quickly and now can play many songs and do some pretty decent soloing. Once you know all the basic chords and can get down strumming techniques it opens up a world of songs to learn.
I'm 21 and I'm taking a beginning guitar class in the fall semester in college and let me tell you that you are never too old or young to play the guitar. Good luck and enjoy and have fun!!

I agree when i watch other people videos my mind went blank and i didn't understand what i was doing but when i watch this im getting better and better very time i try his lesson. I highly recomend Martyz ^.^ thank you Martyz
I always get distracted by the comments and have to rewind the video

How do you get the feel of embarrassment away while learning. I always feel embarrassed for some reason while trying to play and learn and my brain goes into full idiot mode while trying to learn.
You're alone man, do you feel embarassed taking a shit or fondling your junk? Whatever you do alone is your business. Everyone who played the guitar started somewhere. You don't have to play before you've had time to practice and develop skill.
@@TheMcBeefy 😂😂😂
Practice being kind to yourself- you’re learning a new skill! So many people don’t even bother to try. I try to tell myself how exciting it is to learn something new rather than focus on all the things I don’t know yet.

Realmodesty go to a pawn shop by a decent one for 20-40 bucks
Buy
Go get a cheapy from a pawn shop for 40.00..make sure neck isn't warped, (look from bottom of neck to top and see if it looks to be straight and not bowed in the middle). You can also at the ending of a school year get guitars anywhere they sell lessons for cheap...they are lesson guitars, previously owned and used..but well worth 40-60.00

*yet*
Piano is much easier that guitar and I know that very well, but pianos are very expensive to buy so I would recommend the guitar in my opinion.
I recently ordered a guitar and I feel so much better after watching this video about being a beginner! There’s hope!
This is the best most understandable tutorial I have seen so far, thank you so much!
What if you need even more beginner lessons
Then ur so dumb
Fr I can't even do it😂
So the first thing you need to know about a guitar is that its mostly made outta wood
And then contrary to popular belief you need arms with a few fingers on em, 5 fingers on each hand should do fine.

I got a great sounding brand new one for $70 from Kmart
I don't even have a guitar yet, but I'm happy to say that I'm definitely learning. Thnx, Marty!
